Wrestling in Armenia[edit]

  • New: Good. Length: Over 2000 chars. Policy: I have concern regarding the claim in the lead that wrestling was specifically practiced in the highlands, as this claim is neither cited nor mentioned elsewhere in the article. Abyssal (talk) 13:49, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
The source says that Kokh, the national wrestling of Armenia, has been practiced for about 1,500 years, which takes us back to around 5th century. In the 5th century there was no Republic of Armenia. In fact, today's Armenia is less than 1/10 of Armenia in the 4th century. Later in the 5th century, the Armenian territories were divided between the Byzantine and the Sassanid Empires. See the map of Armenia in the 4th century, before the division. The Highland is the birthplace of the Armenians, where most Armenians lived before the Armenian Genocide of 1915, altough Armenians didn't have a state for more than 9 centuries in the region. This is the reason I wrote Armenian Highland instead of Armenia. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 14:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
  • OK, thanks for the history lesson. I think the hook is a bit awkwardly worded. I would propose the alt "... that in Armenia, wrestling is one of the nation's oldest sports?". What is your opinion on this alternate hook? Abyssal (talk) 15:36, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
