I'm requesting that the lines

| name alias-football = USSR
| link alias-football = USSR national football team
| name alias-rugby union = USSR
| link alias-rugby union = USSR national rugby union team

are changed so the links go to "Soviet Union" instead, this is because the articles have been moved (every national sports team of the Soviet Union now lies on Soviet Union national... instead of USSR national...[1]) chandler 17:01, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flag changes[edit]

Can you make the following changes to this:

Two new flags were added. 24.212.149.50 (talk) 16:40, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

Per WP Tennis discussion. Please remove the following parameter:

| link alias-tennis = Russia {{{mw}}} Cup team

It's redundant and creates problems.Tvx1 18:20, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 26 March 2018[edit]

Please replace the following:

| flag alias-1922 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1923).svg
| flag alias-1923 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1923-1955).svg
| flag alias-1936 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1936-1955).svg

With this:

| flag alias-1922 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1923).svg
| flag alias-1923 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1924).svg
| flag alias-1924 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1924-1936).svg
| flag alias-1936 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1936-1955).svg

Please note that I am not asking for any change to the first line or the last line copied here. I only included them here so that the change I *am* asking for can be seen in the proper context.

There are two reasons for this change:

First, File:Flag of the Soviet Union (1923-1955).svg (invoked by the '1923' alias) redirects to File:Flag of the Soviet Union (1936-1955).svg (invoked by the '1936' alias), meaning the two aliases invoke the same flag. (Also it's confusing--and erroneous--to suggest through those two file names that two different flags were in use until 1955, one beginning in 1923 and the other beginning in 1936.)

Second, there are two flags missing/unavailable through this template despite being identified in "Flag of the Soviet Union#History" and having the corresponding image files posted. (These are the two flags I am asking to have added.) Jdaloner (talk) 07:15, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

change

| flag alias-1924 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1924-1936).svg | flag alias-1936 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1936-1955).svg

to

| flag alias-1924 = Flag_of_the_Soviet_Union_(1924-1936).svg | flag alias-1936 = Flag_of_the_Soviet_Union_(1936-1955).svg

For a reason I do not know, those flag images in particular do not display correctly when the file name is using spaces and not underscores, just showing the file name and an icon of a photo with a slash through it, at least on my device. Thespündragon 19:55, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Change
flag alias-1955 = Flag of the Soviet Union (1955–1980).svg
to
flag alias-1955 = Flag of the Soviet Union.svg

This file comes from an unsourced claim that the flag of the Soviet Union had a colour change in 1980. However, the file and that claim has been removed from the USSR flag page and has even been nominated for deletion. The reason for this is that no colour change happened in 1980. The Russian Centre of Vexillology and Heraldry at http://www.vexillographia.ru/russia/ussr.htm states that the new Statute on the State Flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics adopted in that year by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR says that no changes were made in design of the flag, (aside from removing the hammer and sickle on the reverse side of the flag). However, no colour change. So theh alias to 1955 should link to the Flag of the Soviet Union.svg instead, as many articles on Wikipedia now link to that alias and is displaying a "fake" flag.
Code for this change is on the template page sandbox

Change
flag alias-navy = Naval Jack of the Soviet Union.svg
to
flag alias-navy = Naval Ensign of the Soviet Union 1935.svg
as this is the naval flag. The jack is not the "main" flag Havsjö (talk) 08:26, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Havsjö: should the naval- and navy-aliases be reversed? I ask because they are both included in the Soviet Navy infobox. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 02:22, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paine Ellsworth:I think they should be synonyms depending on how you wanna write it. There is no difference between "naval" (flag) and "navy" (flag). The "naval jack" (in this case red with a white star) is a smaller flag used at the front of the ship (when at port and so on), while the naval ensign (in this case blue and white) is the "main" large flag at the back which is the one referred to when talking about naval/navy flag. --Havsjö (talk) 08:54, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, "marines" and "army" alternatives should be removed. The army never had its own flag and the "marines" flag is not a flag specific to the marines! --Havsjö (talk) 08:56, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Havsjö:  partly done. Went ahead and made the navy alias change you asked for initially. The removal of marines and army material will require the garnering of a consensus, because their removal is bound to break some templates wherever they are used. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 09:19, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paine Ellsworth:Thanks for the partial done, but in the case that templates would break and revert to the standard USSR flag would be appropriate since that is the flag which would be best used in those situations since no more "specific" flag exists for those (unlike air force and navy, for example) --Havsjö (talk) 10:17, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, completely  done then. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 20:15, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replace:
File:Флаг СССР от 5 декабря 1936 года.svg
with
File:Flag of the USSR (1936-1955).svg
which is an alternate file for the same design but which has better quality and consistency with the other flag files Havsjö (talk) 14:10, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Havsjö: not sure how to proceed with this. You want to replace a flag that has an alias of "1936" with a flag that should have an alias of "1924"? There is already a flag with that alias, File:Flag of the Soviet Union (1924–1936).svg. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 04:57, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paine Ellsworth: The file-name of the "1924-1955" flag is wrong (it should say 1936-1955), and I have requested a change to it (which it now has). As you can see it has the same design as the current 1936-flag, only with consistent quality and colors with the rest (the current file is not even a real .svg) --Havsjö (talk) 15:01, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Much better, and  edited. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 18:06, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coast guard ensigns[edit]

Please add the following lines for Soviet Border Troops coast guard ensigns:

| flag alias-coast guard-1935 = File:USSR, Flag KGB 1935.svg
| flag alias-coast guard = File:USSR, Flag KGB 1950.svg

Edit: oh and also the above lines should link to Soviet Border Troops.
