Albanian Music[edit]

"Bonbon" by Era Istrefi remains the most heard Albanian song on YouTube. The song has reached 900 million hits on YouTube[1]

"Zemër" by Dhurata Dora ft Soolking it has reached 800 milion hits on Youtube. [2]

"Te ka lali shpirt" by Silva Gunbardhi ft Mandi ft Dafi Derit it has reached 707 milion hits on Youtube[3]

"Habibi" by DJ Gimi-O x Ricky Rich x Dardan is also a well known song [4]

Era Istrefi on 21 May, 2018 toghether with Will Smith and American singer Nicky Jam released the Official FIFA World Cup Song on 25 May.

She performed the song, entitled "Live It Up", alongside Smith and Jam on 15 July at the closing ceremony in the World Cup Final.[5]

In Tirana each year is held the Festival of Albanian Modern Music "Kënga Magjike"

Singers of different genres perform at this festival.

The festival has been organized since 1999.

This festival has brought to the public very high-quality songs that have been liked by the non-Albanian public as well.[6]

German-Albanian Cooperation In The Music Industry[edit]

Granit Musa-Azet (german-albanian-repper)

It is estimated that around 500,000 Albanians live in Germany. Most of them had immigrated during the 90s[7]

One of the singers who has achieved fame in Germany is the singer Azet

Granit Musa, who is also known as Azet, has published albums and made the Albanian language part of these songs[8]

Albania in Eurovision[edit]

Rona Nishliu

Albania takes part in the Eurovision song festival, which is organized by the European Broadcasting Union.

In this festival, Albania has achieved several successes with several singers who have been appreciated by the audience and the jury for their vocals.

  • The singer Rona Nishliu managed to take the 5th place in this festival with the song "Suus" in 2012[10]
  • Singer Anjeza Shahini managed to take the 7th place with the song "The Image of You" in 2004[11]
  • The singer Eugent Bushpepa managed to take the 11th place with the song "Mall" in 2018
  • The singer Jonida Maliqi managed to take the 17th place with the song "Back to the Earth" in the country 2019[12]


SUNNY HILL FESTIVAL PRISHTINA[edit]

Dua Lipa

SUNNY HILL Festival is the biggest music festival in Kosovo.

This is international music festival which puts Prishtina – Kosovo on map

The main organizator of festival is Dukagjin Lipa the father of Dua Lipa. He also was the singer

The festival each year host around 100 thousand fans

In this festival had performed Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, J Balvin, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Hardwell, Stormzy, Skepta, AJ Tracey, Action Bronson, Gashi and many more regional and international artists and performers.

Organisators of this festival say the festival has managed to appear on more than five thousand media articles, all across the world, reaching almost 1 billion impressions, 4M interactions and 4M likes among other KPIs.[13]

Celebrities who visited Kosovo and Albania[edit]

James Blunt

James Blunt was the first singer to visit Kosovo. But he was on a military mission in 1999 He had entered Kosovo as a soldier and had seen the destruction and human tragedies

"No Bravery" is the song which elaborates the suffering of Albanian civilians during the war in Kosovo[14]

"Gangsta's Paradise”, Coolio, who has died at age 59, performed in Pristina in 2002 in front of thousands of fans

On December 17, 2007, just two months before declaring its independence, Kosovo had an international musician perform in its capital. It was 50 cent

25,000 Kosovars  had gathered in an open-air stadium for him

In 2010, the rapper Snoop Dog arrived at the "Adem Jashari" airport in Pristina.

In front of the journalists, he expressed his satisfaction that he would perform on stage in front of thousands of fans in Pristina.

"I am very happy to be here, I am very happy for this country. I came to perform for the people who love me and follow my music. I know exactly where I am. I am very happy that I have come to this country that I have not visited before and the fans will see me for the first time and I will see them," he said.

In 2010, The rapper The Game also visited Prishtina and had performed for his fans

In 2018, Rita Ora was in Pristina , a concert was organized in Pristina as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence.

It is estimated that around 300,000 people attended this concert

Busta Rhymes held a concert at the "1 Tetori" hall in Pristina. The singer from America had sung one of the songs with the Albanian flag

Also Xzbibit and DMX performed in the "1 October" hall

Among the female rappers, EVE was the first and only one. The singer managed to gather thousands of viewers in the "1 October" hall[15]

Singer Ricky Martin held his concert in the square of Tirana in Albania in 2023[16]

Also Enrique Inglecias held a concert in Tirana in front of thousands of his fans[17]

Daddy Yanke and Maluma has also performed in Tirana[18]

Meanwhile, the Greek singer Nikos Vertis held a concert at the stadium "Air Albania"[19]

The 90/2000 Era[edit]

Kosovo was the source of Albanian hip hop and other genres. In the 90s, groups of singers released various songs related to life in Kosovo

The rap group Hija e Jetës [1]published a song in the 90s which opposed the occupation of Kosovo by Serbia

With the end of the war in Kosovo and the establishment of peace in this country, work in the music industry also resumed[2]

Dozens of groups were created in many cities of Kosovo The most popular hip hop groups were those located in the capital of Kosovo, Prishtina

In the municipality of Peja, the hip hop group known as WNC was well known

Gjikla[11] is the first singer from the municipality of Peja who has written a song about corruption in Kosovo.

With this song he describes the corruption in Kosovo during the 2000s

He passed away in 2022 from an illness

In the municipality of Gjilan there was a well-known group which consisted of several singers. They were inspired by American hip hop music

The most famous in this band was Duda[12]

Music in Albania[edit]

Music in Kosovo has also inspired young artists in Albania This is how many groups of artists have been created. The most popular song is from The Dreams [20]- Tirona The mayor of Tirana, Edi Rama, who is now the prime minister of Albania, also participates in this song.
