This is a list of disasters that have occurred in Baltimore organized by death toll. The list is general and comprehensive, comprising natural disasters (including epidemics) and man-made disasters both purposeful and accidental. It does not normally include numerous non-notable deadly events such as disease deaths in an ordinary year, nor most deaths due to residential fires, traffic collisions and criminal homicide.

On March 20, 2021, a passenger bus fell off a cliff near Passara, Uva Province, Sri Lanka, killing the driver and 13 passengers, and injuring 31 people, with over 70 passengers reported. The bus was traveling from Lunugala to Colombo, and was 240 kilometres (150 mi) east from its destination when it swerved to avoid an oncoming truck. Police spokesman Ajith Rohana blamed the incident on driver negligence following an initial investigation. The incident is the deadliest road accident in the country since the Polgahawela level crossing incident in 2005.[1][2]

Most of the Indians here in Maryland belonged to the Algonquins. They were friendly to the white men who first came to the new land, but the Susquehannoughs were more war-like and stirred up trouble wherever they could among both White men and Indians. [11]

Keepy Ducky is a mobile game created by YouTuber "iBallisticSquid", developed by Austrian developer Double Smith and released to Android and iOS.[1][2][3] The objective of the game is to keep a duck in the air for as long as possible by throwing snowballs at it. Players start off by keeping one duck in the air, and as players progress through the game, more ducks spawn, which players will need to keep in the air. The game ends when the player fails to keep the ducks in the air and a duck hits the ground.[2]

Waifu Labs is a website developed by Sizigi Studios, featuring their Waifu Vending Machine, an artificial intelligence which generates a customized waifu, a fictional female character from an anime or manga to whom one is attracted.[1][2]

The term "waifu" is derived from the word "wife."[2][3]

Waifu Vending Machine[edit]

The Waifu Vending Machines generates a grid of sixteen fictional female characters, from which users can choose a character[2] or refresh the grid to generate another sixteen characters. The chosen character is displayed on a grid in different colors, from which users can then choose an option. Users continually choose different options, narrowing down their preferences, featuring details such as hairstyles, clothing, facial features, and pose, ultimately producing a waifu for the user.[1][3]

After users are finished, they can download an image of the character, as well as buy a pillow and poster featuring the character for $90 and $25 USD respectively.[1][2] The website also applies a Japanese name to the character,[1] and presents a "certificate of adoption."[2]

Development[edit]

The Waifu Vending Machine was developed by games studio Sizigi Studios. The AI was trained using generative adversarial networks, according to Kevin Frans, a team member who is an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was brought to the 2019 Anime Expo, an anime convention held in Los Angeles, California, in July 2019, where it gained popularity.[1] The line for the booth reportedly extended outside of the venue.[3]

Sizigi Studios has received requests to create a similar artificial intelligence to generate "husbando", the male equivalents of waifu.[1]

Reception[edit]

The AI was praised by Synced, who stated that the Waifu Vending Machine provides "immediate visual feedback and only needs five minutes to generate a custom Waifu," and that it is an effective alternative to commissioned drawings by sketch artists, which are common at anime conventions.[1] Chinese technology website Leiphone.com listed Waifu Labs as one of the seventeen "best machine learning projects of 2019" in their "Reddit annual inventory," in which significant submissions from the r/MachineLearning Reddit Internet forum are listed.[4]

Southwest Academy Magnet School for Science and Engineering is a public middle school located in Catonsville, Baltimore County, Maryland. The school has a capacity of 1,350 students with 45 classrooms, as well as a library, gymnasium, cafeteria, and health services. It was originally known as Johnnycake Junior High School.[1]

History[edit]

Plans for the construction of the school were announced by Baltimore County Public Schools executives on December 10, 1958, due to overcrowding issues. It was designed as a one-story building with a capacity of 1,350 students. The cost to build the school was about $230,000 less than other Baltimore County Public Schools, mostly due to it being a one-story building.[1]

The school was constructed in 1960 and completed by August of that year.[2][3] It was designed by architecture firm Tyler, Ketcham & Meyers[1] and built by general contractor Henry A. Knott, Inc.[4] The school opened for the 1960–61 school year on September 7, 1960, and was known as Johnnycake Junior High School. It was opened along with five other county public schools.[5][6][7]

Due to overcrowding issues, in the 1960–61 school year, 591 tenth-grade students stayed at the school, resulting in the school's 373 seventh-grade students being sent to Johnnycake Elementary School.[8]

In June 2018, eleven students were hospitalized after a twelve-year-old boy sprayed mace in the school cafeteria. The school was evacuated and emergency services were dispatched. The student was charged as a juvenile with possession of a dangerous weapon.[9][10]

Krunker.io is a free browser based mutliplayer first-person shooter video game. It was created in 2019 by developer Sydney De Vries. The game had become popular on Twitch.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

Krunker.io is a first-person shooter video game. The goal of the game is to gain points by killing other players, and, by having the most points, win the game. There are several game modes, such as Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch. Players can choose from several different classes with different guns, such as the Triggerman, Hunter, and Detective classes. The games take place in different maps.[2][3][4]

Krunker.io was rated as the best .io video game of 2019 by ScienceFiction.com, naming it "by far the best adaption of a FPS [first-person shooter] in the browser", praising the game for its "quick-paced and high-adrenaline" playstyle.[1] Brent Lee of The Koalition praised the game, describing it as a satisfying experience with "a ton of replay value" and praising its different classes, calling them the highlight of the game and what makes it differ from other .io games.[2] Emma Loggins of FanBolt described Krunker.io as "surprisingly complex", with maps "chock-full of hidden nooks and crannies."[3] Emma Roth of MakeUseOf rated the game as one of the seven best online first-person shooter games, praising it for its easy-to-render graphics.[4] best Ashley Adams of Tech News Today rated Krunker.io as one of the eighteen best browser-based first-person shooter games for 2020.[5]
