The battle of Saylan; It took place in July 1918 between Turkish forces leaded by Nuri Pasha and Baku commissars leaded by Stepan Shaumian, resulting in Turkish capture the Kura river, in Caspian Sea.

Battle[edit]

on 26 June, 2,000 Bolshevik soldiers leaded by Stepan Shaumian, with artillery support, entered the Kura river, accompanied by three ships, two of which were armored. An infantry division under the command of Major Nazım Ramazanov was sent to Salyan to stop the Saumian forces, which caused extensive destruction in the villages near the river.

Bolshevik offensive[edit]

On July 2, the local populace helped to defeat the Bolshevik onslaught, which had been launched with great might. The Bolsheviks were able to retreat to Banka thanks to the Turkish forces' counterattack, which also ended their control of the city. The Bolshevik force lost 600 soldiers in these battles, including 132 wounded soldiers. The Turkish division suffered losses of 12 fatalities and 17 injuries.

Turkish counteroffensive[edit]

Turkish troops, who attacked with 50 cavalry on 12 July, destroyed a 400-man infantry division supported by machine guns and captured Banka, and the waterway of the Kura river was completely secured. Nazim Ramazanov was given the task of defending the region.
