THE BREAST CANCER WALK

The Breast Cancer Walk is for the Awarness of Breast Cancer ,and gives the effort of raising the awarness of breast cancer. The walk reduces the stigma of the disease by educating people about it.Supporters hope that this will lead to a earlt detection of preventing cancer, which relates to high survival rates and money raised to support the cure.

Mass events, such as walkathons, promote breast cancer awareness.


PINK RIBBON'[edit]

A pink ribbon, the universal symbol of breast cancer awareness.


The color used to represent breast cancer is pink. The speacial symbol is a ribbon which is seen often. This ribbon represent someone who was diagnosed with cancer or recovered from it. Also people wear them to repesent someone that they have lost to cancer as well.Pink ribbons were made inexpensively as a fundraiser, they really dont do much but it does promot the attitude of "you can do it" it gives strength.

HISTORY[edit]

The breast cancer walk have been going on for about 25 years now. In October 1983 the Race for the Cure was held for the first time in Dallas, Texas, where 800 people participated. According to the organizers, by 2002 the number of participants reached 1.3 million and the event was held in over 100 US cities. The event is also being organized in several other parts of the World more people began to find out about it they began to interact with all of it's where abouts. People have preparation for this harmless walk, they even buy the clothes shoes all type of beast cancer walk acessories. Breast cancer gave itself the spot light because now more people are aware because it has happened to someone they know. People from young children up to adults are even supporters.Although women are the only ones likely to get breast cancer men are supporters as well.

==ORGANIZATIONS==

There is a wide variety of charitable organizations that support breast cancer and its awarnesses.These organizations do everything from providing support, educating society, and dipersing thousands of dollars to fund treatments. There are many small organizations that exist , but the largest ones are:


Susan G. Women for the Cure Komen is the largest and best funded organization, with highly visible fundraisers. They represent the good, hopeful, happy, unified survivors who have embraced pink ribbon culture.

National Breast Cancer Coalition: This large umbrella organization played key roles in several prominent pieces of American legislation, such as the creation of the United States Department of Defense's Breast Cancer Research Program, genetic non-discrimination laws, and the patients' bill of rights. They are committed to evidence-based medicine.

Breast Cancer Action:Famous for its "Think Before You Pink" campaign against pinkwashing, BCA emphasizes the need for research into pollution as a cause of breast cancer. Like the National Women's Health Network, they refuse funding from any group that may have a conflict of interest, such as pharmecutical companies, medical imaging companies, or pollution-causing industries
