Maria Sebastian is a Buffalo, NY-born singer/songwriter and teacher. She has opened for dozens of national acts and has recorded with many of their members. She has earned 14 Buffalo Music Awards (1 People’s Choice), and has had music placed in television and film. She performs regularly in Buffalo and plays select northeast venues as an acoustic singer/songwriter—most recently opening for Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, who has chosen her to continue as an opening act. She has also joined 10,000 Maniacs on some shows as an opening act, backing vocalist, and rhythm guitarist. Maria’s 1999 CD, Yellow Envelope, has earned her praise among all it has been passed on to, including The Hudson Valley’s Freeman Online (“Sebastian has a great record on her hands here.”) and Buffalo Spree Magazine, who gave her their CD of the Year award. Her latest collection, Truth Gets the Front of the Line is a product of the artists she covers in her undergraduate literature classes, and it features songs for and about Malcolm X, Maya Angelou, Harvey Pekar, and others.
