Re: Biman and Grameen

Yes, the Biman article seems very ready for FAC. I'd still like to recommend three steps before you do that - (1) get the information from the links on talk page assimilated into the article (I haven't been to get around to that yet); (2) get it to peer review; and (3) get the league of copyeditors to take a look at the article (spamming for help still works with good people).

Thanks for the tips - will go through the process as suggested. → AA (talk) — 11:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Done all three of the above. However, I don't know who to approach for the copyediting. I've added the article to the list (here) but there's a huge backlog. → AA (talk) — 16:58, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, the Grameen initiatives do lack reliable third party sources, agreed, but adverts! If you expound a bit more on that, I'll more than happy to remove any advert sounding material from those articles. In fact, I guess, I should merge all of those articles into one single article (may be "Grameen initiative"), because there are even smaller orgs in that group (like Grameen Bank Housing Programme) that doesn't merit an individual entry. Want to lend a hand there? Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:16, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

What I meant was, they read like promotional material that you'd expect to find on marketing material. I guess that's mainly due to not showing how 3rd parties view them which goes back to the issue of having reliable secondary sources commenting on their operations. I think a single article is the best way to go in the short term (and redirect the existing pages there). As each one grows, it can be moved out into its own article. → AA (talk) — 11:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Created Grameen family of organizations and merged all of the articles. You were right, the new article show much more promise and potential for development. My net connections are extremely down since last night. But, I'll see what I can do with Biman. Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
You seem to have left out the strikes, and the flight disruptions out of the article. Is there a reason? Aditya(talkcontribs) 19:33, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
The flight disruptions were as a result of problems with the ageing fleet and I've covered it in relation to that and added the refs there. The strikes were a one time event and I didn't think there was anything significant as it occurs at most organisations around the world so left it out. But if you think it needs a sentence or two, by all means feel free to add it in. Thanks again for reviewing the article. → AA (talk) — 19:59, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Subst:prod

Namaskar! Thank you for your comment. I sometimes add the PROD tag when I feel that the reasons for deletion are self-evident. This might come off as arrogant and I do not intend it to sound that way, however there are thousands and thousands of pages on WP that need deletion, and in most cases it is quite obvious why (for example, the page you mentioned in your comment - it has since been deleted.) Real trouble... help needed

Dear, I guess I have got myself knee-deep in trouble. Just take a look at Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank and Grameen family of organizations and you'd immediately know. The Grameen family has a bizarre labyrinth of a huge number of interconnected organizations, very poorly stated on the Yunus and Bank articles. A lot needs to go out, and a lot more needs to be put in. I am trying to get the mother article on the complexities right (i.e. the family-wallah article). Can you take a look at the other two? It is scaring the shit out of me, and I'm not feeling very impartial about it (though impartiality doesn't seem to be a strong virtue for many people here I am interacting regularly with). Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 17:27, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

hmmm.....they look fine to me. The history doesn't show anything unusual (I was thinking maybe they've been put up for AfD). Can you elaborate on what needs to be done? Cheers. → AA (talk) — 21:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh... sorry, I was working so closely on those articles that I thought the problem was glaring at our faces. Not really so, I guess. Well, the problem lies in the Grameen venture parts of the other two articles (Other Grameen initiatives for Muhammad Yunus and Related ventures for Grameen Bank). First they don't correspond to each other, apart from the first paragraph, which I wrote and copied to both articles. Second they quote pretty minor orgs while ommiting bigger ones, as you'll see from the Family article. Besides the relations between the orgs are pretty vague on both articles right at the moment. The first para that I wrote is pretty much part of the vagueness. If you like I'd invite you to come back to the Yunus and Bank articles the coming Saturday, because I hope I can get the Family article developed enough to serve as a source and a referral point. Cheers. BTW, as you know already, we have the LoC working on Biman already, in the form of Preston. Aditya(talkcontribs) 04:08, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
OK - let me know once the family article's ready and I'll take a look at summarising it into the other articles. Also, many thanks for the LoCe requests. I hope we can get this to FA. Were you OK with my comment on the peer review about the history? → AA (talk) — 20:31, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, of course. It's the same thing with History of aviation in Bangladesh - not enough material. Let's see if anything comes up before the FAC is through. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 03:13, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Ooops

oops. I did not see the inuse notice in the Biman article. I just edited it. Sorry. Just see that I did not do any mess. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:53, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I just rewrote the first paragraph of the article, that's all. I'm still thinking about how to incorporate the service agreements sentence with the sentence about the flights. I quite like my current sentence, though. I think I won't do anymore editing of the article right now, so please, carry on! --Kyoko 19:11, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Never mind the refcite formats right now. You can very well do it right before you take it to FAC. And, oh, buzz up Riana, Kyoko and Trusilver once more. They are the best in business, and their contribution could be absolutely invaluable. May be check if Fowler&Folwer is available to lend a hand. He writes amazingly sizzling copy. Aditya(talkcontribs) 22:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - will ask for their help tomorrow. → AA (talk) — 23:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

List of accidents and incidents on commercial airliners grouped by airline

I have added List of accidents and incidents on commercial airliners grouped by airline as a see also thing at the bottom of incidents and accidents. But, this article I found doesn't have Biman stuff on it yet. Please, take a look. Which incidents/accidents should go to that page? Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:08, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

The only one, I think, will qualify for that page is the Dubai incident. All the others, though significant for Biman, are not notable enough to warrant their own article (which is what the list is grouping). However, even for the Dubai incident there are no reliable sources which have discussed the incident and the subsequent investigation in any detail. Therefore, I don't think the list should be included in the article. → AA (talk) — 22:28, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
How about the accident that killed the first woman pilot in Bangladesh? Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:52, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Possibly, I guess there's no harm in adding it to the list and then seeing what arguments come up. Under the Russian section, there's a whole bunch of redlinks with no explanation of the reason for the accident and therefore should be removed. I'll add them in and just link to the Biman article for now. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 15:07, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Wait, wait! This very moment I'm trying to get some stuff on the untimely death of 45 passenger and Captain Roksana. If I can, I'm going to take an attempt at creating an article on that accident and put it into the grouped list. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
No problem and good luck on finding the details. It's a shame the BD government does not publish it's investigation details somewhere. → AA (talk) — 18:48, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: major edits

Don't worry, dear. I only put the tag up because right now I'm working on a tremendously slow (0.4 k per minute) connection that keeps failing every 16 minutes. Since I can't do it fast, I need others to wait a bit before doing anything. And, the change I have done (check, it's ready now, almost) is perfectly in line with your expressed desire to incorporate bits from other sections into the history section. After the edit it has somewhat a continuous time flow, not a jump from early 1970s to late 1990s. I hope you'll like it in general. Aditya(talkcontribs) 07:19, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Post Script BTW, I think I have some material for a start class article on the 1984 accident that killed Captain Roksana and 48 others. But, I can't locate the the flight number, which should ideally go into the title of the article. Do you know anyplace where you can look it up? And, a small request - can you clarify Aviatour in the New York and Manchester section (like, Aviatour, a so and so supplement of so and so newspaper). It looks like a bit of puzzlement for people unacquinted with the subject. Aditya(talkcontribs) 07:27, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I looked long and hard for a flight number but could not find one :( → AA (talk) — 12:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Update I have clarified Aviatour and Skytrax, and have also left a few suggestions at the peer review. Can you take a look? Aditya(talkcontribs) 03:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I've replied there. → AA (talk) — 12:40, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

hadith

I recognize the problems in the lengthy duplicative articles on the hadith concerning the origin of the conflict between the Sunni and the Shi'a, and the ones on the doctrine of "temporary marriage." I personally think it would be quite possible to have an article on each individual hadith, since they all have a substantial later literature--but they should obviously be written not as a long quotation, but as an encyclopedic discussion giving various views--there is surely enough later secondary literature to discuss in the thirteen centuries of Islamic scholarship. But it might be practical to combine them by topic, and this should be decided in the appropriate workgroup, or if necessary through dispute resolution.

Prod in any case is for uncontroversial deletions, and it is clear that this will not be one. You are of course welcome to pursue these deletions though AfD, but I strongly urge all those involved to find a better way of dealing with them, one which will improve the encyclopedia by providing an informative set of articles. Hilarious. Just too good. Aditya(talkcontribs) 10:21, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Good news. Got Jatree. I have typed out the relevant information on User:Aditya Kabir/Sandbox 3. Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:48, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh YEAH!!!! That looks superb! Nicely fills in the missing information. Just needs slotting in into the history section and some copyedits and were done with that section. Well done! → AA (talk) — 13:42, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
It'd be great if you could lend a hand there. I'll join in as soon as I finish working on some of my userspace pages. You see, when I stop loving myself WP, I work on my userspace. Works as a mediative practice. But, I promise to be back to the articles soon enough. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:48, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Sure - but will be a bit slow for the next 4 weeks as it's Ramadhan :) → AA (talk) — 13:52, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Help with table again

Hi AA, could you please lend a hand to format the table in "Economic exploitation" of Bangladesh Liberation War? I think a smaller font and shorter table width would be nicer. Arman Aziz 03:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Made some changes, let me know what you think. → AA (talk) — 08:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Fatima

Assalamu Alaikum

I thank you for your efforts for the Fatima article and for making it neutral as the article needed a lot of cleaning up and was quite biased. Hasseniqbal192 17:06, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Biman: Sandbox

I have put together some stuff to be incorporated into the Biman Bangladesh Airlines article at User:Aditya Kabir/Sandbox 3, including some removed earlier (those are rewritten or put together with added refs) and some collected from the links posted on the talk page. Please, check on them, and let me know what to do at my talk page. Aditya(talkcontribs) 22:40, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I have made a few observations on your comments at the sandbox, and also tried to address a few issues that you raised. Take a look. And, I'd like to request you to take a look at two more things. First, there's a bit more facts on the magazine and the FF program I put together, as well as a bit on e-Ticketing (mostly from the links you posted earlier). If you don't have an objection I can incorporate those into the body of the article. And, second is the cargo part. I know it needs a bit of copyedit for tone and reading ease, but you haven't made any observations on it. I'm looking for place fitting for the piece in the article. And, oh, sorry for replying so late. I was expecting a note posted to my talk page, as I requested (I wasn't watching the sandbox, my bad). Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah - sorry about the note. Made the assumption it was your sandbox and you'd watch it as vigourously as I watch mine :-) I have added a "Services" section in the article and incorporated them in there and did a copyedit of the history section. I've done a first pass of the Biman Cargo and going through the remainder now. I'll take a look at the other stuff again later tonight. → AA (talk) — 15:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I have also added to the peer review for further attention (though all of it is aimed particularly at you). BTW, I just read your comment on Tariff's broadband. Here's an unreferenced gem for you - any internet service which is not dialed up is called a broadband in Bangladesh, including my darn 0.4 k line. And, oh, I'll be watching my sandboxes from now on. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
I won't mention my 9MB connection then :) → AA (talk) — 16:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

9MB? Gee, sigh! Anyways, the management section looks wonderful (though my favorite bit, the legal evolution, isn't coming through... well, to be fair, I'm ready to drop that bit now). May be a wikilink to wholly owned corporation and another to public limited company would be useful. Checking the poultry bit (well, I know for a fact the importance of Biman Poultry, but can't get through to a ref, damn). Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Post script Well, what you can gather from the three cites are - (a) improved varieties of birds were imported in 1935, no formal poultry; (b) attempt at small-sized poultry in 1954, no sustainability and no breeding operation; (c) after liberation Biman starts the first medium-sized poultry with breeding operations and sustainability which prompted the government to promote the sector; (d) the government initiatives were followed by NGOs. Wow! I'm so tempted to start an article on History of poultry in Bangladesh!!! Haha. Aditya(talkcontribs) 17:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

My speciality (and bias) is in sourcing and therefore apprehensive when adding unsourced content. If there are any reliable sources, that discuss this in detail, then it can be included. → AA (talk) — 22:13, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Unsourced? BRAC and FAO sources don't count? Obviously I'm missing something here. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:52, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
But they only mention it in passing. Biman Poultry is not the subject in any of the sources. I think it is preferable to include this information in the Biman Poultry Complex sub-article but it does not fit well in the main article. → AA (talk) — 16:26, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I have added the attempted hijack. Wondering now, is necessary to have so many tinsy-winsy sections for services? May be all of that can be merged together into the mother section (i.e. Services), with cargo forming a level 3 section under it. And, oh, that cargo criminality... can that go somewhere into the history section? The Amadeus story may also become part of the history section. In the FF part, you may consider including those international flights that are excluded on top of internal flights. Finally, can't we include the circulation number of Digonto and the Swissport connection? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditya Kabir (talkcontribs) 17:19, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Heyyyy! The reply got lost!! Aditya(talkcontribs) 17:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Answering your above points:
  • "tinsy-winsy" sections
I know what you mean and they do need to be merged but can't quite think of a way to link them together without looking like standalone paragraphs. Working on it.
  • Cargo as level 3 heading
Yep - this should be a sub-section of services since there isn't enough emphasis on this service and not much background info is available.
  • Cargo criminality
I think it belongs in either the Cargo or Management sections. Haven't fully read up on this yet and will see where it fits best.
  • FFP - including list of excluded routes
I think it breaks the prose and disrupts the flow for the reader. For most audiences, the actual routes aren't that important and the mention of local routes and the ref will be sufficient for readers to look it up if necessary.
Oh, but I thought, the general reader never goes to check ref. Only the academic reader does. Let me see what I can do about the prose (not my strength area, though). Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Any interested reader who wants to know the details has the option of checking the ref. I believe 99% of the readers will have no intererest in knowing the exact routes the exlusion applies to and will be satisfied in knowing that it is only on short flights in the local region. (PS: I'm not even sure of the validity of this FFP - have not come across any secondary sources that confirm this). → AA (talk) — 04:37, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Digonto circulation
The numbers are not reliable since there's no indication of when the figures were taken and by whom. It appears to be from the publishers themselves so to be taken with a pinch of salt.
  • Swissport connection
I can't remember seeing this - I'll have another look.
The source (SCS Flyer) is a primary source for Swissport cargo services and just lists Biman with no indication of what it does for Biman and in which countries that applies. Also, it's dated 2004 and a lot has changed since then so no proof to show it's still being used by Biman. Unless, we can find some secondary sources that give further details, it would be OR to summise the nature of the service for Biman.
  • Amadeus
I'm trying to find some background on the first story. The two are not related but they could be included in History. Let me see if I can find more info.
One more reason to get it into the history section. It doesn't matter if two stories don't gel, as long both parts can fit into the timeline. Besides, my travel agent tells me, it's just a historical curiosity (not in so many words, though). Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
AA (talk) — 22:13, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
FAC Don't worry about the leade or the currency thingy. Once you go to FAC other people with ideas and friendly hand joins you to solve minor problems (especially the leade, which is more a matter of copyediting than anything else), that's the reason for calling it a collaboration. I strongly feel it can go for an FAC tonight if you like. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:52, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
OK. Go for it. I'll close off the Peer Review first (as it's a condition of FAC). → AA (talk) — 16:26, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandal warnings too soft

Take a look at the contributions of User talk:82.47.208.4. I think the warning you gave is far too soft. A blatant vandalism template ({{uw-bv}}, or use Twinkle) should be a minimum for that many blatantly disruptive edits. Richard001 00:05, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. The vandalism on the Islamophobia article was "mild" ([1]) and therefore I hadn't looked through their contribs. But nevertheless, I don't think it warrants a "4im" - I think a uw-vandalism3 would be appropriate. → AA (talk) — 04:29, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Broadband :)

Yes. I am getting 100 kbps and download speed is 7 to 8. I have given 800 Taka in advance and monthly rent is 550. I and my friend Toky is using the same connection. So the cost down to half. That means it would double if only one person gets it. limitation is, even though two of us can use it at the same time, it gets too slow if one tries to download something. Otherwise it's ok, the connection is powered by BracNet. Thanks --Tarif from Bangladesh 15:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the details - just curious what is classed broadband in Bangladesh and at what cost. :) → AA (talk) — 17:09, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

You're right. But I've talked with some pious people. They didn't seem to have any trouble with it. Hizbut Tahrir finds an issue every week for protesting in front of Baitul Mukarram. Prothom Alo

I was about to tell you, thanks. I am launching Chutir Dine very soon as well. After that I'll be out for a while. Then, will back withing a couple of hours. Regards--Tarif from Bangladesh 10:27, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
hmmm...not my area of expertise, admittedly, but are supplements notable? I think in an AfD, it would be argued that they should be incorporated into the main newspaper article. I would advocate doing that to start with and then move it its own article once there is sufficient context. That way the Prothom Alo article will contain substantial content rather than both being stubs. → AA (talk) — 10:37, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I think, at least Alpin and Chutir Dine is notable enough to have their own articles. I understand your point, I would support to keep them both though. I think a separate article for Chutir Dine would have contents that original Prothom Alo wouldn't. Anyway, I completely support you are saying.. Don't know much about newspapers article either. Don't worry, we can improve on that. What do you think we should do next?--Tarif from Bangladesh 12:44, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

By the way, as far as I know Prothom Alo generated from Bhorer Kagoj, Matiur Rahman probably was the editor of it. Famous column writers like Muhammad Zafar Iqbal who used to write for Bhorer Kagoj turned to PA after that, and a lot of s news reporters joined Matiur to write for Prothom Alo. Know a good deal about it, but we need references. What about regular features, should I start writing them, using their own sources? Just as I did for Alpin? Sorry for asking too many questions, not a good reader of guidelines ;(--Tarif from Bangladesh 12:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah - go ahead and flesh out the article. It may be worth looking at some of the existing newspaper articles (Financial Times, The Times, The Independent) and structure it in a similar fashion. You can use Prothom Alo as it's a primary source. However, if you do find any secondary sources, it would be better to use those. Also, feel free to ask any questions - I am glad to be able to help!! → AA (talk) — 15:00, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Come to my talk page to have a look on Aditya bhai's exclusive experiences. By the way, we can merge Chutir Dine to Prothom Alo, but I think Alpin should have an article of it's own. It's already notable enough. --Tarif from Bangladesh 16:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Go ahead and do the biz! Nice bit of inside info from Aditya but as he says, we still need to source it. → AA (talk) — 16:20, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I have moved the Alpin article to 2007 Bangladesh cartoon controversy. I hope no one minds. It seemed more appropriate. Now, if possible, can someone upload the cartoon itself and put into the article? Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome templates

Please list the template name and default edit summary you wish to be included in the menu:

Template Edit Summary

welcome Welcome to Wikipedia
There's already a whole page dedicated to welcome templates (see here) with hints of what could be in the edit summary (i.e. bold welcome, basic welcome, graphical welcome and of course those specialized welcome notes for users without a clue of neutrality, notability or spamming guidelines). And, of course, there's category for the templates as well (see here). Aditya(talkcontribs) 06:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
This is in reference to: a TWINKLE enhancement. → AA (talk) — 11:58, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, sorry. Well, just trying to help. Anyways, if you have time someday, I'd like you to teach me to use twinkle. In fact, it is a lot of bother that there is no proper usage manual for the tool. A lot of people on the talk page of the tool complained about that. But, no one seems have ever attempted to start one. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
It should work provided you're not using IE as your browser. Just add the following line into your monobook.js:
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');
and hit reload. You should see a number of extra tabs at the top of the page. Let me know if you have any problems. → AA (talk) — 15:04, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
That part I have a while back, as soon as you suggested that I should take a look at the possibility. But, everyday I look at the tabs that were created and wonder how do I make this useful. Perfectly clueless. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:12, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there is so. There are [restore this version] on the left hand side, and [rollback (AGF)], [rollback] and [rollback (VANDAL)] on the right hand side. What are their exact functions (well, I can understand the left hand side button, I guess)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditya Kabir (talkcontribs) 15:41, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey it works! Now, what does [rollback] mean (AGF is good faith and Vandal... I can udnerstand that much)? And, is there any automated process for vandal warning attached to twinkle? Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:58, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! My debts to you increases everyday. Waiting for the day to pay some back. I can imagine one right away - you can ask me for any specific book, newspaper or publicly available document from a specific source in Bangladesh. I'm lazy enough not to get'em for myself, but to get even I just might take the initiative. Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:42, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Not at all bhai. I'm just glad to be able to help. However, your offer sounds too good to be true! I will certainly bear it in mind. → AA (talk) — 22:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Sunnism template

Check the talk page again, thanks! --Enzuru 06:19, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Need your help bro!

Hi, AA: I was trying to implement the image categorization scheme that I proposed in WP:BND talk page. I tried to manipulate Template:WP Bangladesh. Somehow I left a redundant "{" at the bottom of the template (see any Bangladesh article talkpage). Could you please help me check where the erroneous code is hiding? I'll also keep on searching. Arman (Talk) 11:10, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Will take a look. → AA (talk) — 11:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
I think I've isolated the problem. (See User:AA/Sandbox). Tables are always tricky inside parser functions. You should be able to work out the problem. I think it may be better (for long term maintainability) to move this bit of "code" into it's own template that gets transcluded into the main WP template as it is very complex. → AA (talk) — 11:40, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. I've fixed the problem for the time.. but the msgbox is not showing. I'll work more on this the next few days. Arman (Talk) 13:58, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Salam alaykum. Masha Allah you've taken numerous bransters.

By the way. I want to review Fatima. I should remined you all of the article which I had reviewed had failed. I hope this article pass. I paid close attention to the details and found that minor edition should be done. I put hold tag on the article and explain the points on the talk page. Then I ask other editors to help with it. By the way I eager to see a good article about my mother. Jazak Allah Khayr.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 09:28, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

You can check my former reviews in Talk:Al-Manar, Talk:Al-Farabi and so on. I may have conflict of intrest in all of them but I did my best to be a good reviewer.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 17:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I added some comments for you in the talk pages and mentioned several pages of MaDELUNG'S BOOK which we can use.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 16:24, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
I wish you've believe that I really want to make a good article and you have a really hard work.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 13:27, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I have no doubt we are working towards the same goal - i.e. GA status for the article. I apologies if any of my comments have caused you upset - it was not my intention. My primary goals (following the issue with User:Klaksonn) is to ensure the article is NPOV and to not prejudice the good work on the article by using partisan/polemic sources (from either side). → AA (talk) — 13:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Although the article has improved during last week but it hasn't reached GA criteria. I want to declare failing if you agree.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 07:55, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Yep - agree. It has failed this time but looking promising that next time it will pass. → AA (talk) — 17:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
En Sha Allah.--Sa.vakilian(t-c) 17:58, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Can you create table for the page with space for Name, Population, Area, Established and anything else you think should be there? Since this is not a dynamic list, we can strive to make this the first featured list on Bangladesh. If you create an empty table, I can definitely fill in the empty spaces with the latest census data. Thank you. Aditya(talkcontribs) 11:34, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Done. I've added division and district as two additional items and the table is sortable so it will be possible to make use of these. → AA (talk) — 11:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

"participants" vs. "members"

It's not non-standard, it's the result of a disagreement. A number of us have tried to get consensus on choosing either participants or members, but there have been vociferous argument of proponents of both sides. So for right now, both members and participants are the "correct" form.--Mike Selinker 16:53, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Mediagenix whatson page deleted

Hello, I would like some help in how to write an article about the company I am working (living :^) ) for. Inspired about the article on adobe captivate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captivate and the article on our competitor from france. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progiciel_Louise

So I write an initial article which I agree is pure commercial and inspired by our marketing material, so your evaluation is correct that it is advertising. But I do not see the diference with the above mentioned articles. Our system is used in over 18 countries for 20 big broadcasters with about 3400 user, so I think that we must have something enceclopedia worthy. But before attempting to submit a new descriptions which I will put some more effert into, I would like to understand more what your objection was especially compared to the two above mentioned articles.

No hard feelings, but very novice wikipedia contributor

Your friendly neighborhood Muslim.

If you object to the above message, please remove it, accept my apologies and notify me on my talk page.

Good job

You've had the dubious pleasure recently of deleting pages I've tagged as speedy candidates. Just popped by to say that I think your habit of warning creators of attack pages after you've deleted the article is an excellent idea, and one that more administrators should copy. Regards, BencherliteTalk 09:25, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. I do check to see if a warning has been given to decide on appropriate action based on edits since the warning. You can add an appropriate warning at the time of tagging also if using {{subst:attack|ARTICLE}} or on one of the {{uw-create1}} type warnings. → AA (talk) — 21:58, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
I CSD tag using Twinkle, which automatically notifies the creator of the nomination anyway (but doesn't issue a warning, which is perhaps a shame); I sometimes add a {{uw-create2}} warning (or higher) as well when I check the creator's talk page if they've done it before. I'll remember {{attack|ARTICLE}} for the future. BencherliteTalk 22:06, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Deleting Julia Page

Thank you for deleting the Julia article yesterday. I was showing her how wiki works and we where going to delete the article when finished. You did that for us so thank you. We understand that personal articles are not permitted, and so like I said we where going to delete it when finished. Thank you --Greenwood1010 13:06, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

No problems. You can perform tests in a Sandbox within your userspace (e.g. by creating a page called User:Greenwood1010/Sandbox) as article space should not be used for testing. However, even then I would advise against adding anything that could be seen as defaming or attacking another person since there are very strict conditions governed by the policy on Biographies of living persons. Happy editing and if you have any queries, feel free to ask here. → AA (talk) — 22:03, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I READ THE GUIDELINES...PLEASE HELP

Hello AA,

I read the guidelines for article submission. I am new at this.

You placed a speedy deletion on my first article...UTM the Magazine or Unsigned The Magazine.

As a regular person off of the streets, I found this magazine at a resturant and it was free. I thought this is interesting.

However, I use Wikipedia alot to get more information on things that sometimes can't be found with just a regular search. So, I thought I would registrar with Wikipedia and try to submitt an article about this magazine cause I thought others might come across it or hear about it and try to google it to see what all they could find out about this magazine.

How can I improve what little I have been able to find out and make it worthy of Wikipedia? Please help.

Sincerely Iseetomorrow

Hello Iseetomorrow, welcome again to Wikipedia. In order to create an article on any subject/product/company etc. we first have to ensure the topic is notable and verifiable. If the magazine is well known, then you should be able to find some reliable sources to reference the topic. However, if the magazine is not notable, then I'm afraid the policies do not permit an article on it. If you need any further clarification, do not hesitate to ask. Cheers. → AA (talk) — 15:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank YOU...

Hello AA and thank you for your assistance. I will try to improve this article. I'm not sure I understand Notibility and the references guidelines. Do you mean other sources about this magazine that can be found online?

Please help again...I am a novice at this as you can tell :)

sincerely Iseetomorrow 16:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC) iseetomorrow

Yes - if other sources (doesn't necessarily have to be online - it can be in books, newspapers or journals) have discussed this magazine, then we would say it's notable. Google Books/News/Scholar can be a good starting point to find references online. → AA (talk) — 16:14, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Wrong License in Image Ming Freeman

Dear Fellow,
Recently I have uploaded a photo of musician Ming Freeman (Ming_freeman.jpg). He has permitted to use the image in the following condition:It will not be cropped or altered in any way. But I have chosen the GFDL license for that. I am not certain whether this condition applies to the GFDL license. Please choose the appropriate license for the image.→Farhan nasim 05:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Farhan, images uploaded to Wikipedia cannot have any conditions attached to them. They must be licensed such that derivative works (cropping etc) can be created. Essentially, all rights are relinquised but see section 4 of the GFDL for full details. So, if you believe this condition cannot be waived, I would suggest tagging the image for deletion. For the moment, I have tagged it appropriately and you have a few days to resolve the situation. Regards. → AA (talk) — 07:16, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Royal bengal airline livery.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Royal bengal airline livery.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:41, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

You were totally incorrect in your deletion of the moblog:UK entry, it cited instances where it's relevance in the field of mobile blogging was incredibly relevant, I'm going to re-instate from the last deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Al4ie (talkcontribs) 10:38, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Toolserver database lag

In case you haven't noticed yet, the lag of the toolserver database seems to be under control again (~7 hours at the moment), so the shortpages tool should be usable again. I haven't had much time for Wikipedia in the last few weeks, unfortunately, and haven't been able to revive the old bot in the end; sorry about that. If I manage to find more time soon, I'll try to modify the script so that it falls back on the old bot's code if the toolserver is behind. Hope I'll be able to do this before the next big lag ! Cheers, Schutz 20:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I did notice it was coming down and hopefully it will be back to near-zero soon. I had managed to move to the otherside of the fence with my new admin tools, so was busy anyway :) It would be worth putting the backup system in place as you've mentioned in case the problem shows itself again. Cheers. → AA (talk) — 22:43, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

utm magazine...notibility

thank you again AA...i have sensed learned that the featured music artists on the cover of their first inprint magazine have been nominated for a grammy award in three catagories...would that be considered notable? and i have also found other sources about them online. can those be used as references? since they appear to be a new magazine will there be information on them in other magazine journals?Iseetomorrow 17:15, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. What we need to look for is that the magazine itself is notable. If it printed stories about notable artists, that would not make the magazine notable. If there are any other sources which refer to UTM Magazine, then potentially we could use that. However, in my quick trawl through google, I could not find any relevant links. Generally, anything that is notable will have at least a few links on google. I commend your efforts in this and if you have any further queries, feel free to ask. Happy to help where I can. Cheers. → AA (talk) — 22:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks so much for deleting my page. It was an attempt for some fun in Wikipedia but you administrators just have to delete it. I even put hang on but you still deleted it. I will now tell everyone that Wikipedia is wrong and don't try and create a site, because the selfish administrators with their own useless pages, will just delete them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Camoq (talkcontribs)

Mawlid

plz help in Reahing a Consensus on Mawlid page where anti-Mawlid views are Posted by Wahabi/Salafi Mezzomezzo. He supports more links in against of article which is totally biasedness also and Not Neutral. Now my Current Point of argument is that Mawlid is Celebrated is most of the Muslim World and is a Holiday there with reference .it is also Celebrated in Non Muslim Countries. Despite it he uses word many for non celebrating People without references.plz see it and help me in Improving this article. ThanksShabiha 23:26, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

You're more than welcome to assist, as you've always been neutral and level headed on here. It would help, as I can only be called a "Wahabi" so many times before I start to lose my cool. Your two cents are greatly appreciated.  :) MezzoMezzo 14:22, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Thank You for Your Current discussions on talk page of mawlid ,It is Hoped that we will be successfull in Improving the article Keeping in view of wikipolicies.thanks again Shabiha 18:52, 30 October 2007 (UTC) Shabiha (talk • Shabiha 18:54, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

highly commandable job you are doing please add the references and accounts of Early celebration and Modern celebration . Don't You think that Celebration is always written with the each and every report and news Item and suggest Celebration for those who did so actually and Practically plz comment Shabiha 18:54, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Observance is a more neutral term and used in preference to celebration on Wikipedia. Nevertheless, where an event is observed by a large majority and multiple sources refer to it as a celebration, we can also use that term. We should also be weary of simply listing all the countries that observe/celebrate this event in some way or another as it falls in the territory of WP:NOT#DIRECTORY. We should aim to summarise how the event is observed throughout the world and only have individual sections where there is something clearly notable. → AA (talk) — 23:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

I am of the View that this Version needs more Improvement firstly i did not add the History of which i have Clear and notable proof that i was thinking it will be done by You as You are supposed to be working here as Neutral.

I agree that it needs much more improvement but unfortunately, worldly matters means I can't spend too much time on it personally. I have moved it into mainspace so that you and other editors are free to expand the article. If there is a dispute, I will again try to assist in working towards reaching a consensus so if you find that any of your edits are reverted or changed please take it to the talk page and we can discuss. → AA (talk) — 14:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
  • The Modern Scholars who supports and oppose it needs to written with their respective sects or Movement because most of the Modern have their distinguish Ideology.and You need to Mention Specifically that Which Movements Oppose its Celebration as on the talk page i ahve given some google books References which besides Other sources Says taht it is saudi wahabi Ideology in Modern time which is Totally against its Celebrtion.as here No Holiday is Given to Muslims to Observe it.
Again, I agree it does need to be clarified - just like in the supporting views section, we need to clarify which movement the scholars adhere to. → AA (talk) — 14:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Lastly dont you think that Supporting Views are also Posing Negative aspects too even though they are written as Supportive. Shabiha 14:12, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
I see what you're referring to but would you consider we put those views in the oppose section? The fact that some scholars support the Mawlid but place restrictions on the manner of its observance needs to be mentioned. What we also need are views from other notable scholars who have no reservations on the manner of its celebration. → AA (talk) — 14:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
If you feel we can set an example, then i'll back of with reverting for now. Though if you look at the latest edit, i'm not sure if that will make much of a difference. MezzoMezzo 19:28, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
it is requested to You to remove Salfi and non Neutral links albalgh from the history as a source .
  • plz reconsider word Observation for celebration ,all neutral scholars have Used it see my all google books and Other links.
  • Now Notability of Celeration is established so give weightage to celebration .
  • Now comment on it .It has been Celerating in the Most of the muslim world and in Non muslim countries wherever Muslims

Resides.

  • Now celeration heading should be made some rich by those Proofs on talk page.plz assist. Thanks Shabiha 22:25, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Please continue discussion on talk page. I will comment there. → AA (talk) — 09:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Does Moving of Page from Sand box to Main page make it unchangeable? plz reply me with my queries .i have waited too much to get ur Opinion on neutral links of history .As is Clear from his discussion and (Obviously he should not be)that mezzo will not agree on even logical and reasonable proofs given with Neutral sources. Now time has come to act now. I am removing some non neutral part. Shabiha 05:38, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Shabiha, moving the page to mainspace does not make it unchangeable. However, I have requested both you and MezzoMezzo to not remove/revert changes does by others but discuss them on the article's talk page. We are all monitoring the talk page, so it is better to contain discussion in one place. Please also understand that neutral does not mean we have to remove valid arguments supported by reliable sources. We may need to add the other views where required. Please continue discussion on article's talk page and refrain from engaging in a revert war as it will lead to the article being protected. → AA (talk) — 09:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

It is best if we stick to the academic sources discussed. The academics have gone through all historical scholars such is Ibn Batuta and summarise their views so it is easier to use these as sources rather than the original. → AA (talk) — 09:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Dear respected AA plz help me in Unblocking my self to request administrator.I know that i exceeded the limit of wiki policies so i have to bear Blocking .Ur response is highly needed.user:shabiha —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.163.64.170 (talk) 10:22, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Shabiha, you have been blocked for 24 hours and, as you have also admitted, the block was justified. I would urge you to respect other editors on Wikipedia when you start editing again and be mindful of policies such as WP:3RR, WP:NPOV, WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL. As you've seen in Mawlid, if you assume good faith and discuss the issues and edit the article according to policies and guidelines (WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NPOV), you will have a stronger argument and will attract support from other editors. However, continued incivility is not tolerated in Wikipedia and future violations is likely to attract longer blocks. I would like to offer you some personal advice off-wiki, if you would like to e-mail me. Your block expires in another 9 hours after which you are welcome to edit again - but be mindful that you don't revert on Barelwi as soon as your editing priviledges are restored. Discuss the issues on the talk page and only make changes once you have gained consensus. → AA (talk) — 12:46, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Kazi Salahuddin

Hi, can you have a quick look and help with some copy-editing for Kazi Salahuddin? I'm going for a DYK and today is the last day. --Tarif from Bangladesh 06:30, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

need help again

Salahuddin article had some inconvenience with self-sourcing. Anyway, I'm very positive about my new article about William AS Ouderland. Please copyedit that and possibly you can write an attractive hook for it as well, he is the only foreign Bir Pratik. By the way, I'm editing from my cellphone again after nearly two moths! Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 12:36, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

What a surprise

What a pleasant surprise! Today I woke up in the morning and opened Wikipedia. I was just having a look at the main page, then I saw ...Kazi and thought this could be an article about Bangladesh. Then I realize it was about Kazi Salahuddin, I was completely surprised! Nothing more better to cheer you up in the morning than a DYK entry ;) Thanks for your wonderful copyediting. Hope our partnership would create a lot more moments like this. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 01:17, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

not anymore, it is removed. I'm really sorry now. --Tarif from Bangladesh 02:08, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh - what happened? If it appeared on the main page it should be in the archives but I can't seem to locate it. → AA (talk) — 08:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm going with this:

  • ...that Dutch Australian commando officer William Ouderland is the only foreign recipient of Bangladesh's fourth highest gallantry award Bir Pratik?

What do you think. If you have any better one, please suggest. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 03:27, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe the current entry is good (which mentions the war). → AA (talk) — 08:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Ragib bhaiya actually gave me the idea about adding the war. Regards--Tarif from Bangladesh 02:13, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
