Greg LeMond

Hi - thanks for your feedback concerning our effort to improve the Greg LeMond article. It's only one of many that I'm interested in making the best on wikipedia, including Lance Armstrong's entry as well. I think they're both pretty fascinating characters, though LeMond's entry needs our attention now, since it's suffered inadequate editing for so long, imo. I wish I could include Alexander Vinokourov in the list of articles I will make a big effort on, but I don't think I'll be going back to edit that ever again. But if you feel inclined to edit the LeMond article more, please - you're welcome to...we can use the assistance! user:Gunbirddriver is helping as well and is my equal and more in that project. As for the relentless criticism being directed your way, I'm afraid I don't know much about the intricacies of Wikipedia policies and dispute resolution mechanisms, but I would counsel you to continue your level-headed, rational, direct and consistent approach to dealing with the thugs. If you haven't already, it is probably also good to cultivate some allies who do understand the mechanisms that might be available to you, such as whatever exists to cite someone for disruptive editing, which I've definitely seen directed towards you (that is to say, which you've been a victim of). The only other editor who responded also suggested this Lampre image (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Andrey_Kashechkin-IMG_1814.jpg), though they also thought it should be cropped. I'd be fine with that. Do you know if I want to crop the image, would I upload it to commons to replace the original, or as an entirely new image, and if so, how? Thanks! Bikini

Looks nice, though I'm still not sure about the choice of the lead image. About the images I have three observations: (1) the images don't need hard coding as the default size is generally the preferred size; (2) the controversy section may have a beach volleyball image instead of a wrestling image as the former sport has drawn more controversies; and, most importantly (3) are you sure we need the gallery section? My strong recommendation is to get rid of the gallery outright. It's not adding much encyclopedic value apart from the Roman mosaics, and even those belong more to the History of the bikini article. And, before I forget, would you also take a look at the see also section? Because, I believe Burqini, Mankini, Monokini and Tankini are being overemphasized here (they already belong to the Bikini variants article), while White bikini of Ursula Andress looks like a fanboy inclusion. Haven't looked as closely as to find more hitches. Once again, the article definitely looks more encyclopedic now. Aditya(talk • contribs) 17:45, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Aditya - thanks for the quick response. I'll delete the gallery now (yours is the first feedback I've been able to get in months, so I'm happy to delete it as I was genuinely ambivalent). Will also look at substituting the wrestling image w/ one from beach volleyball. W/ respect to the lead image, I'll leave it in place now, but I was reading MOS:images and it says there the main image should be no wider than 300px so I guess I should scale that back, too? If I understand you correctly, are you saying that there are other images that should also just be size-defaulted to "thumb" that aren't currently? I'll also make the changes to the See Also section. Re:Bikini

Two responses to two different posts:

  1. The section doesn't "conclude". Encyclopedia articles don't conclude, editorial writing does. But, the sentence is so convoluted and is so scantily covered by the source that the best course of action would be to remove it altogether.

Re. #1/conclude - sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but in using "conclude" I wasn't trying to draw any distinction b/w editorializing and encyclopedic writing. I just meant "conclude" like 'come to an end.' I appreciate your taking the time to clear that up for me though, the diff b/w editorial conclusions and the ending of an encyclopedia article. Not sure how long it will be until someone starts the GA-review, but whenever that happens, please take the lead in responding to any issues or suggested changes/improvements cited by the reviewer. If there are any issues in their eyes, they may put the review "on-hold" for 7 days, for example, to allow time to make the requested enhancements, after which they'd either pass or fail the article. And w/ you taking the lead in responding, I would expect the article to pass! I don't understand your apparent two-faced approach to communicating with me, Piotrus. I am sorry if I my comment was too abrasive; the fed up is related to a general trend that your submission was just a part of. I can AGF that it is the first time you submitted a GA nomination, so please keep up working on articles, but read Wikipedia:Good Article criteria, and do not submit articles until you are think they are not going to be quickfaile. If you are not sure if the article is close to a GA or not, you can ask for a WikiProject B-class review, Wikipedia:Peer review, or just ping an experienced GA writer/reviewer (such as me) for a quick comment. As for the "two-faced communication" - an expression IMHO about as uncivil as anything I've said, "dude" - blame the GA bots which leave automated messages. Hi EyeTruth. Thanks for the heads up, which I saw after leaving a very long comment and question on the article's talk page.
I'm going to CC Gunbirddriver on this, and Nick-D too, because I'm very seriously concerned with the neutrality of the presentation of the poll choices. While I recognize your preference for the second option (which I contributed significantly to the development of, for full-disclosure lol), I think you've presented it in such a manner (w/ positive comments that equate to obvious advocacy, whilst the first option is presented with a "blank" comment, that makes it appear as if there's nothing to recommend it as a choice!) as to introduce unintentional but undeniable bias into the poll that could make it impossible to have sufficient confidence in the results until the issue is addressed. At the very least, voting should be suspended until such time as you've modified the first choice to include a comment that summarizes the proposed edit and highlights its attributes, as you've done for the second choice. And if you're not able to provide a comment for #1 that is the equal of #2, then I still think voting should be suspended until another editor like Gunbirddriver could provide the comment for #1 in your place.
I also think those editors who've already expressed a preference for #2 should have the chance to revise their votes once the first option is summarized and its attributes highlighted in a comment appended to the poll.
I think this is a very serious issue in the context of the article in question and it demands our immediate attention (although I repeat that this is not a personal criticism of you or an insinuation that you've intentionally done anything inappropriate). Thanks. Azx2 21:12, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
As already stated on Nick-D's talkpage, I intentionally left it blank since I didn't want Gunbirddriver to eat me raw for making an assessment in his place. If it were an intended bias, then there would be no conspicuously blank space left for the comment. Frankly, anyone can go ahead and provide a comment there. Firstly, I don't appreciate your extremely aggressive and hostile tone, User:Gamaliel, and wonder if you manifest this confrontational, threatening style with all your interlocutors?
Secondly, I don't appreciate having a legitimate enquiry of mine deleted from a talk page to an article without any explanation or justification on the part of the censor.
Thirdly, who are you, exactly, to come here and command me not to restore legitimate material taking the form of a legitimate enquiry - nevermind the fact that there was no "link" present in the first place.
Fourthly, others (quotes reproduced below - original statements near bottom of this section) have already commented upon the unreasonable censorship taking place on that article talk page:
I don't believe you've acted appropriately or civilly and, in fact, I find your censorious behavior and seemingly hostile message left for me here to be so implicitly threatening and intimidating that I, an editor of Wikipedia for many years, do not feel I can safely continue contributing to the Project, absent some apology from you and an explanation for your seemingly questionable and intimidating conduct. G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
