Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 20% for major edits and 47% for minor edits. (Based on the last 121 major and 113 minor edits in the article namespace.)

Further to that bot message, if you find it hard to remember to do edit summaries, you can change an option in "My preferences" ([1]) to prompt you when you forget. They're really useful when other editors look through a history page, to help them work out what changed when, which is brilliant when fighting vandals, for example. --Dweller 11:23, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Freddie Mercury[edit]

Hi, may I ask why you changed Mercury from "Persian/Iranian" to "Indian"? Didnt he consider himself Persian?

It is a referenced fact that his Parents and Freddy Mercury were Persian. I can give you pages upon pages of articles, biographies and interviews with Freddie Mercury that would back this Stop taking it out, that is vandalism.Klymen 01:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. Half an apology and half an explanation. I inadvertently reverted your category additions, which are appropriate. The substitution I was referring to was what I said above, that you removed the link to Brian May's website, but added a link to the Queen pictures, which belong with the Queen article. (a) MACK ??? - Your wrote an 'article' about Macrae... There is absolutely no doubt that Mack and Macrae are different persons who have nothing to do with each other: Reinhold Mack was the producer of five Queen albums, Josh MacRae was the drummer of the band The Cross and co-produced some of Roger Taylor's solo albums. (b) "Why did you revert it to the previous version." I did't revert to the previous version (which is better and much more appropriate IMO). Hello, I have been reviewing the Queen WikiProject and it seams "dead". I would like to resurrect the project, I see you do a lot of editing of Queen articles and was wondering if you would like to help (I could really use some help). This project could be very good. I agree - the articles on non-single songs should be part of the album articles (maybe with the exception of songs like "'39", "Brighton Rock" or "My Fairy King"?). I Want to Break Free[edit]

Hi, Candyfloss. The other day I wrote a lengthy post at the Talk page for this song and, after that, took the liberty of removing the paragraph about Rock in Rio. I saw you put it back. I'm not gonna try to revert it, but I'd like to know where that info comes from. Although I can't back it with evidence, I was there at the concert, I saw the video many times on broadcast TV in 1984 (and also happen to know about which songs carry deeper meanings for people around here). Really don't mean to be rude, cause I appreciate a lot the work you guys do here on Wikipedia, but I'm pretty sure the story is phony, and think it should be removed (or, at the very least, carry a "citation needed" tag). Hi JimboB, many thanks for your comment. The info probably came from both the British press and the book "Queen - As It Began" written by Gunn/Jenkins. "Freddie came back on stage in the top half of his 'Break Free' outfit; tight jumper, false boobs and wig, and the audience started to throw rubbish - bottles, cans and stones - at the stage. Freddie whipped off the offending items, laughed uproariously, and thought no more of it. The rest of the encore and the ones following were free of incident and the band left the stage in triumph. After the show the local people explained to the band that 'Break Free' had become a liberation anthem for them, a message against dictatorship. They couldn't bear to see it mocked in that way. It also didn't help when one of the security guards at the front of the stage had been rather heavy-handed with one or two of the excited revellers during Queen's set. The crowds surrounding the front area had witnessed this and got angry, beginning to throw missiles at the guards, which was when people further back had hurled things at the stage. Luckily no one was hurt but a distorted version of the incident appeared in the British press." (Jacky Gunn, Jim Jenkins. Queen: As It Began. London: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1992, pp. 182-183.) Thank you for your response, Candyfloss. Yeah, to be honest, the way they put it in the book, it even sounds a lot like speculation. If indeed someone told the band that I Want to Break Free was viewed in Brazil as an anthem against dictatorship, they certainly did it in order to be polite and hide the truth: pure homophobia. You see, most of the audience on January 11th was composed of young headbangers. Iron Maiden, then every Brazilian banger's favorite band, had taken the stage immediately before Queen that day - and since they were the only international act who was only doing one concert in Rock in Rio (everyone else, Queen included, played twice), every headbanger in the range of many miles was there that day. And you know how 15-year old macho types are. Anyway, if that happened (I was not immediately in front of the stage that day; on the second concert, on January 18th, I was), it certainly wasn't a huge angry reaction, or everyone would have noticed it even further back. From where I was standing, people were mostly amused by Freddie's costume, and totally aware of the video reference. And as for the dictatorship, as I already told you, it was practically over by that point, so a song so recent couldn't even realistically have been adopted as an anthem. Hello Cmp01, I have included (!) Queenpedia in the band article (as you can see here). It does not make any sense to include http://www.queenpedia.com in articles on albums or band members.
