I doubt you're doing this as courtesy it is Wikipedia convention telling you to put this notice on my talk page. Anyhow, enjoy yourself on [1] since I haven't been using the vandalism tag of late. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 15:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NHS AfC[edit]

Hi, Are you still an IT Tech in the NHS, what grade did you get in AfC? I might need to talk to you privately, is this possible? Thanks. Dalavich 20:42, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no longer an IT Tech for DaSH, but if you want info on A4C we can have a private chat no problem. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 07:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry being a bit dense here, how do I start a private chat with you? Thanks. Dalavich 06:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no private chat facility here, we'd have toswap email addresses for that, and the exchange od address wouldn't be secret. As a tip to find my email address, look for this username on the Wikipedia Commons, most photos I've uploaded have my website as a source on which is my name and aemail. Cheers, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 07:48, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civility[edit]

Your edit summary here is unacceptable. Remember WP:CIVIL. Andy Mabbett 08:40, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's perfectly acceptable, your reply to Sheepcot was not. You stalking me onto my talk page making this kind of comment is uncivil. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 08:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What you told Andy Mabbett here is actually correct diff so please don't think I'm trying to criticize that aspect of the dispute.
However Andy Mabbett is not stalking you here, he's disagreeing with your use of the word violent in the edit summary to describe his previous comment. Editors are bound to want an explanation directly every so often when you disagree with them. diff If Andy Mabbett starts showing up on different articles you edit, then I could see it being called stalking. As it is this looks like a misunderstanding caused by sensitive feelings and poor word choice. Here is alink to it's place on the AN/I page, in case you want to comment about this there [2]. Anynobody 09:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up [User:Anynobody|Anynobody]]. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 09:50, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I accept that I stepped over the line in my comments to Andy Mabbett, but having looked over the talk pages of the pair of you it is quite clear that there is a lot more going on here. I would have to say that this user is being extremely forcefull in trying to get his point of view through, and it being extremely un-collaborative. Almost every post that disagrees with his view is reverted or a contrary response posted. For what its worth, it would be better for you to work together with others on this. For my part, I have already had enough of the pettiness of this place. The adding of coordinates has certain "zealousness" about it, and I really do not think that the railway strip maps need it. Sheepcot 07:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Captain scarlet/Archive4. As you have commented on the above article's disscussion page, I'd like to invite you to a poll on the inclusion or not of the coordinates box, here. L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 20:28, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me about this. We'll need more than us two to have Microformats removed as Pigsonthewing is rallying people on his Microformats project. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 22:26, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major stations template[edit]

In this edit, I think I understand what you mean, but did you mean to say "The town is NOT being considered, the station is"? --RFBailey 15:29, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you're right, I typed a bit hastely. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 15:56, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings[edit]

Hello Cap'n - it's been a while. My work forced me away from wiki for a while - as did my disappointment in the months of tenacious schoolyard ado about nothing - but I'm back and ready to pump the Paris article up to FA status. I'd be thrilled if you'd help - there's not so much to do, but citations and some prose-work are needed.

Is it me or has something changed here? Somehow Wiki doesn't seem so.... busy.

Anyhow, all the best, take care,

THEPROMENADER 23:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi THEPROMENADER, nice to see you again. I have also taken a step back from wikipedia thanks to the increase number of Hardouins around, you know what I mean. I'd be glad to help you with the Paris article. We've worked so hard on that article that without adding content and wikifying the article it can get to FA status in no time! Don't hesitate to contact me, cheers. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 07:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good lord, you answered some time ago. Shall we open a thread on the Paris talk page? Much can be cut and reworded in that article, no doubt... what do you think should go, for starters? Some is too wordy... until then, cheers! THEPROMENADER 21:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ANI[edit]

Hey Captain scarlet. Pigsonthewing has thrown his toys out of the pram again at AN/I. Since I doubt anyone will bother telling you, thought I would. Looks like most people are just telling him to stop being so mardy and get on with it. Anyway, good to see you back from a little Sheff-break! L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 02:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. Pigsonthewing's the best. An expected course of action coming from him, always on ANI and RfC when he can't make his case. Take care, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 07:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

Welcome back, Mysterons. I wondered if in the recent edit to the Town Hall, or was it the City Hall, you intended to remove the map as well as the 'coord shambles'? (I have no views re the map and agree with you re the coords.) -- roundhouse 19:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes in intended on removing the map as well as the shamble coordinates. I understand Pigsonthewing's mess includes a map but I believe there is a point where line should be drawn, coordinates, map, what next? The address? I think the coordinates serve the reader better than a map, especially when the map is interactive, there is no need for a low quality and badly edited map as well. Don't you agree? Cheers, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 08:44, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't formed an opinion on the map or maps in general, so my vote is floating on that one. I think the address/postcode/phone/fax might well be next and I anticipate the Mysterons will say 'Wikipedia is not a telephone directory' and root them out. -- roundhouse 11:12, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an example - The Petersfield School (Hampshire, England) - it uses one of the infoboxes modified by microformattists to call on {{coord}} and also to detect microformats (although it doesn't yet have geo-coords). Odd that postcode is omitted - would the Mysterons object to post-code? -- roundhouse 12:54, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed address/postcode/phone/fax have nothing to do in Wikipedia... It's explicitly said so in the CoC, take a look, there's a line just for it. What next, directions? No that's already on Wikitravel. The post code or our cousins' Zip has nothing to do here. I see our microformattists have made a big mess of that template... Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 19:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did a search for CoC and found a variety of things, the most amusing being Circle of confusion - I expect pigs would fly in one of these. However you perhaps meant something else. There are only 4 microformattists, one of whom said of the 6 Tinsley viaduct coords - Oppose - 'Wikipedia is 'not a collection of cartography data'. Another of the opponents said it looked like original research - now is adding any coordinate not original research? How does one cite a coordinate? -- roundhouse 13:36, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By CoC i meant the universal term Code of Conduct, sorry, that was a bit nerdy of me. The only source for a coordinate unless cited in a book specifically is itself. Reasonable numbers of coordinates on an article are ok I believe, it is information that cannot be refuted; Buckingham Palace is where it is, citing its postcode, phone number or address is not encyclopedic however. There is a different between situating an article and giving directions to it, one is relevant, the other mere travel guide data (timetable are another controversial topic) Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Captain[edit]

For the benefit of someone who knows little about them, and in the interests of trying to calm things down before someone gets blocked, could you explain to me in words of one syllable what microformats are, and why they shouldn't be used? Here or on my talk page. Thanks. Neil  20:10, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sorry Neil, but I feel there's little need to make efforts to talk to Pigsonthewing, I feel I'm speaking to a brick wall and facing somekind of a vendetta to ban me rather than someone willing to constructively prove their project is worthwhile. I've spent 2 months encounting Pigsonthewing and I have had nothing but disdain. You've correctly approched both of us but I am not satisfied at the response by my counterpart. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 10:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have noticed that you're occasionally removing commercial links from wikipedia. I try to keep a few articles clean too. Would you have a look at my discussion page? There is a debate on a link I removed from the Sisteron article. I might be wrong, so I'd like to have another opinion. Thanks. Vincent Lextrait 05:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your intervention on Sisteron. Now I have another one, more subtle, Vinon-sur-Verdon. The website provenceweb has invaded wikipedia, with references added on many different villages pages. This is the case of Vinon-sur-Verdon. The content is not bad, the only thing is that it is a commercial ad site (see [3]) listing commercial content which has been bought from them. I am occasionally removing links to provenceweb when I fall upon them. A user seems to disagree with me, on Vinon-sur-Verdon. If I am not too much of a pain, would you have a look? Thanks. Vincent Lextrait 12:54, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

don't apologise, I see the Provence websites have been tainted indeed. Justifying the removal of ProvenceWeb isn't hard. Its main page annouces its purpose of diffusing tourism information, that's against WP:EL and the MoS so there you go. I don't know what's with the random gliding website links. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 13:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Same thing, in my opinion on Languedoc wine, where a link to the site [4] is readded (I found it invading wikipedia on a few articles). Your opinion welcome, if you have some time. Vincent Lextrait 19:02, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Computours would seem unappropriate as it is just some person's website, the wine map is however aceptable I think. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:41, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks! Vincent Lextrait 16:54, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a Heads-up[edit]

...to tell you: Hardouin's back, and up to his usual "where I live for foreigners" shenannigans. This time it's on the Île-de-France page - his first edit since eight months was reverting to a phrase of his that was removed over a year ago.

Cheers,

THEPROMENADER 18:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's not much you can do, but just to let you know that "Paris fun" has begun again - this time on the Economy of Paris article. Hope you are well - cheers. THEPROMENADER 11:20, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing will stop the guy... It's enraging, he'll fault, he'll get yet another 3RR then resume lowering the tone. He's done it since his arrival he'll continue doing it. don't play the game, use Wikipedia functioning against him rather than anger and exasperation. You and I know he doesn't play fair, use that rather than "dude stop". Good luck. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 11:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. Use Wikipedia? Doing my best already: do you remember the "sockpuppet saga" (with Green Giant)? It's only one instance up for arbitration here. I gave all I could, so I'll let the admins decide from here. Cheers. THEPROMENADER 11:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, I remember the sockpuppet issue... Oh it was fun, I had my own where my fiancée was accused of being a sockpuppet, I let it go... what I'm leading onto is even using Wikipedia isn't enough, irrefutable testimony (the word proof isn't accurate in this situation). You were a while ago going to gather the dossier of all dossiers regarding He Who Must Not Be Named. I suggest you do that: two years worth of intell, week by week recollection of his actions and bang against the wall. It's not personal it's just his impossibility to work with others or to agree with others who do not unwieldly follow him. another option is to use all the information you have legally ammassed and make a website or your own... That'll do his head in and teach you much in your fields of interest; history, geography. I know that since I am the provider of most if not all information present in articles of my interest the cunning loophole of GNU is lame does not apply and you wouldn't even have to quote Wikipedia, I've thought of this already... Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 12:02, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. He's back for another round of wishful disinformation, again with another single-user account (with a few recent edits this time) to revert to his "own" version. Economy of Paris as usual, full blanket revert to the version of (*cough*) "another" contributor. Right. This time I'm going to call a card a card. THEPROMENADER 14:25, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright status of Port of Le Havre[edit]

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Port of Le Havre. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://extrapah.havre-port.net/images/menu_web4/historique/histogb.pdf in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Port of Le Havre with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Port of Le Havre with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Port of Le Havre saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

Thanks for the warning but your message does not comprise any violation information. Please elaborate on this copyright violation since I typed the article and I have no recollection of stealing or using any copyrighted information. Rgeards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 11:03, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look at the article (now deleted) and http://extrapah.havre-port.net/images/menu_web4/historique/histogb.pdf and didn't see anything suspicious - the material is similar but the wording is different. I would expect they are independent translations from a doc in French - is there any objection to this? -- roundhouse0 11:55, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You might have ,noticed I don't believe in PDF so I've off course never seen this document hehe... I'm sorry to see that the case made against Port of Le Havre lacked actual proof of copyright breach, it seemed all hush hush and delt with quickly. Thanks for the heads up but I don't get your last sentence, I'm happy you agree with me but I don't get what I shouldn't object to ;) Cheers, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 12:05, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I meant 'is there any objection in Eng Wikipedia to an article in French being translated into English by an editor?'. Copyvio is presumably lifting articles (or chunks or articles) verbatim. I do indeed recall that you dislike pdf - there was an example re Sheffield a few months back. (There was also a case of the SUFC article being accused of copyvio and denied GA status, when it was the Wikipedia article which had been copied.) -- roundhouse0 12:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Well the French article is a translation of my work in English. None of the media used in the article is a copyvio, the map is made by moi et the photos were already present so there is no reason indeed not to start again; freight passage data is open public so that may be used, dates aren't a secret etc... Dunno where whatshisface got the coyvio from, the claim was empty, no justification... Dunno why I should outright ask for the article's reopening, probably not, i do dislike Wikipedia after all... I'm more bothered by the loss of the data than anything else, I know the subject, readers who don't lost access. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 12:42, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, you say that you "don't beleive in PDF" and that you "never seen this document" but you maybe recognize the following webpage : [5] ? Anyway, it was only the "history" section of the "Port of Le Havre" article that should be deleted, not the full article. DeltaWeb 13:43, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Off course I recognise this page, it was present in the page's external links. I don't believe I plagarised that nor and it is not that page that was quoted in the Copyvio claim. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 14:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A last note[edit]

Although I strongly disagree with you, I will not take the matter further since it seems to be 2to1 and you are adament that we keep the status quo. I do not want to start an edit war. ChrisDHDR 10:54, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which Réseau?[edit]

For ordering purposes,

  • Do you consider the Languedoc-Roussillon région in the réseau Sud-Est or Sud-Ouest?
  • and similerly do you consider the Pays de la Loire in the réseau Ouest or Sud-Ouest?

Any feedback would be appreciated. ChrisDHDR 12:59, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Certain regions are on two réseaux, being in a TER region and an SNCF région is not mutually exclusive; Rouen is in both Région Ouest and Nord since lines to and from Paris are in Ouést and the line to Amiens in Nord. those regions having lines coming from Parisian terminals such as Austerlitz and Montparnasse would therefore be in two SNCF Régions; it's all been thought through with care ! "Paris Metropolitan area" yet again[edit]

Captain, ô Captain,

As a (former) resident of the Paris region, could I ask for your input into this matter? User:Hardouin has returned after a month-long absence (only) to revert "his" Economy of Paris article to his own terminology - when the correct one was in place since months with no complaint before the last revert war - it's again about his wishful translation of aire urbaine into "metropolitan area" when the official translation of the same is "urban area". He's reverted six times in the past two days, in spite of the facts presented to him and references straight from the very organisation that created the "aire urbaine" - the INSEE. This is getting very surreal - he's even asking admins to doubt this source (is there a higher one possible? Not.) to adopt his "reasoning" - we've seen this before in dealings with fellow Wikipedians and admins not familiar with the subjects we deal in.

As a former resident of the area, and one who is knowledgable about all things Paris, could you be so kind as to throw a dash of wisdom and common sense here please? Thanks, I'd be ever so obliged.

Cheers,

THEPROMENADER 20:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind word in the great "metropolitan area" debate - but this story seems far from over - against all agreement, fact, reason and obvious sources, the reverts continue. Again as one knowledgable about the fact of how things are in gay Paree, could you look in on the "revert-targeted" article from time to time to make sure the level of "truthiness" doesn't get too high? Thanks again. THEPROMENADER 21:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No probs ThePromenader, it didn't seem I was the only one agreeing with your procedure, the cabal guy was pretty impressed. I can look at the article but you know how he is like: brick wall/not bovvered/not lissening. He wants things related his way with his expresions in use, fortunately, with Cabal behind you/us, we can justify the truth with concensus backing us up. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 06:38, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again highly suspect edits to the article in question by an "outsider" - to exactly the same two phrases obsessed over by User:Hardouin - and talk page comments using exactly the same "reasoning" as the same. The article was clear and true to its sources as it could be as it was, and I find it extremely odd (for a wikipedian) to diminish the clarity and verifiability of an article just in order to get the "last edit". THEPROMENADER 11:00, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Socketpuppet alert? It wouldn't be the first time youknowwho has resorted to this. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 13:57, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Last night I reverted to the "Paris region" version - that's where all the sources say Paris' economy is, so Wiki should say the same. As for the rest, it's really too bad that France isn't more like the big You Ess of Ay, but if it has a language of its own, we must use it first. We can make compromises about what facts to place (and where), but not with fact itself. Thanks for your knowledgable support through this. THEPROMENADER 08:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(sigh) - Can I ask you for your knowledgable input - again? After the latest revert, Paris' economy is limited to the city (at least in the introduction), and Paris' urban area - officially meaning "aire urbaine" - is being indicated as and compared to another country's definition of an urban area. I guess some seem to think that "those stupid foreigners" aren't capable of understanding that different countries have names and definitions (and languages) of their own. THEPROMENADER 13:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Best way would be to avoid both Aire métrolopitaine (which by all means could be confused with France) and Aire urbaine and use Ile de France. The IdF website ought to have economical résumés that can be used as sources. If I show up on that article there's gonna be a big bang since I'm unlikely to make any prisonners. If I do, be bold will never have been so appropriate and if these are reverted, the individuals will go straight to Admin notice boards with the note does not collaborate and WP:OWN stuck next to their names. Howzat?
NB USA should be more like not American language ;) Les 'ricains use a form of old English that has since long evolved into what Anglais is now; best they cath up rather than the opposite ;). Regards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 14:20, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, well if that's what it will take to get some sense into all this, then I'd much appreciate it - I can't go it alone against a sock/meatpuppet army that ignores all fact, reason and consensus. THEPROMENADER 14:39, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can't the article be protected and the puppets blocked? My missus got hers blocked just for agreeing with me, I'm sure they'd get blocked for the same reasons. Anyway 22 minutes and it's the weekend... Patience Greg... Patience. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 15:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Happy weekend! I'll leave it for now, but I eventually will be putting the article back to the verifiable version - leaving it like that just diminishes its credibility, and I'll be sorry that I ever contributed to it. All the same, it's too bad that there's not more knowledgable people contributing to Paris articles - all the stress is in the one-on-one - not to mention the frustration of seding evident fact be buried by obtrusive and obscure inventive bullshit. It might be a good idea to get some school-children exercising their English on Paris articles - as per the idea of a schoolteacher friend of mine - at least that way we can hope the quality of those articles will improve a bit.
Blocking puppets? Will have to make a case for that - there's quite a few unblocked proxies out there, and even here I have a choice of at least nine neigbours I can steal WiFi bandwidth (and IP numbers) from. Still, the situation is apallingly clear - same reverts to the same phrases invented by the same person, all on the same day an edit war is going on. I'll just add this here as to not mess up your page any more than needed: Our friend has just began another whine crusade hoping for backing without attention to fact. Anyhow, I've edited the article to make it informative and less non-sensical, in accordance with our agreement. Have a look at the results if you like. Cheers! I've looked at your contribs todays due to the increased activity of the Hardouin and I have little or no issues with them. I also note you've taken time to ask people involved to make their opinions heard which means you're clearly following a diplomatic and sensible approach; can't fault you there and Admins should the time mean they're needed will see you have done that. I know your writing style and I know it's generally faultless, good zhizle me nizle. PS: I went to IdF région (with an accent haha) last week... Despite my interest in the articles, it's still pretty much a sh-hole :) Pontoise was nice, quality pizza I had there. Was only a one night trip there to see old school mates. Infobox Trams Template[edit]

Hi Captain, I can't understand why youv'e requested this page for deletion. I can't use a sandbox, beacue you need a template page for it to show up on, which is linked to my second sandbox. Please remove the AfD. Bluegoblin7 17:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The AfD won't be removed since the template is a nonsence page with no content. The article does not assert its own importance. If you don't understand criteria for deletion, have a look at TfD. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 08:02, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Bus Azur - logo.png[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bus Azur - logo.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:12, 15 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Waterways maps[edit]

The mapneeded tag on waterways pages has been agreed by the WikiProject as a call for either a map, or a route diagram, so I will remove the tag again Mayalld 11:43, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is still no map present on the article. While maps remain preferable to diagrams (they are not anchored to the right of articles, do not restrict edition and are geographically acurate) I have readded the tag so that a learned editor may compose a map for the article. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 11:50, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The tag is an attribute of the UK Waterways WikiProject, and is taken to mean that a map or diagram is required. As you seem to take issue with the way the project uses the tag, perhaps you should take it to the project talk page, instead of simply re-adding a tag that doesn't actually mean what you want it to mean Mayalld 11:54, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a friendly reply on the article in question. I do not wish to take part in this project considering some of the members present in it and the lack of need to take part in projects. I remai objective and offer my services on thie article alone. Regards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 11:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've never found the current membership to be other than cordial, but clearly you have some quarrel with one or more of the members. I do take your point about maps being needed, and would support you in calling for such maps. However, such maps really aren't in scope for the current WikiProject, and overloading the mapneeded tag just makes it harder to achieve any progress. In the spirit of finding a solution, I've amended the template to take an alternate "mapneeded=full" call, which should satisfy your wish to tag the article, and the wish of others to use the categories to plan their contributions. Hey Cap'n. Just wantedto draw your attention to this request I made, if and when you can find the time. L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 23:50, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dude... I've told you before the plan's just like the links you keep on giving me. I've driven the rubbish and useless road (I'm a hater of the NRR) and the roundabouts are where they're meant to be and how they're meant to be. I just don't get what you want changing. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 22:08, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll humour you one last time. It's the wrong shape. From Penistone road, it heads southeast down Shalesmoor and Moorfields, then runs into Corporation Street around halfway along at a roundabout, before turning northeast along Corporation Street. It does not (as in your diagram) head due east, nor is the road ever called "Gibraltar Street". From here, it crosses the river, and one section passes across the Wicker, now downgraded (so the thick line on your diagram gives the wrong impression) and carries on along Cutlers gate to the parkway, which it meats as a roundabout (not whatever you've drawn). The other section, which does not even exist on your map, heads under the Wicker Arches and links up to Spital Hill and Saville Street. You seem to have included Blonk street/Lady's Bridge as part of the ring road. Shall I go on? Please, just have a look at the images I provided for you. L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 01:53, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, here are some more image of how this image should look. One is your image superimposed over the Sheffield City Council-drawn plans, the other is those plans, superimposed on your image, just to create both effects. these are at [6] and [7]. Also, this is what the junction with the Parkway looks like. Please can you go have a look at re-draw the image appropriately? It's better to have no image at all then an incorrect one, don't you agree? L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 15:58, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A hand, sir?[edit]

Dear Captain,

I'm once again in conflict with you-know-who, for the usual subject - his non-existent "Paris metropolitan area". While working on a metro-line template the other day I came across his "template" tacked to the bottom of all Paris' arrondissement articles - talk about irrelevent. I removed them, and of course he was right there to revert them all back into place. This template's sole purpose seems to be Hardouin's "I live in Paris" agenda, as not only is it incomplete, but misused - so I moved to have it deleted. Can you have a look here, please, and if you have a knowledgable word to say on the matter, it would be quite kind of you. Thanks in advance. THEPROMENADER 20:52, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Houlgate ancien blason.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Houlgate ancien blason.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. No worries, although I thought I did provide sources for the article, I'm glad you pointed out this outstanding unverified fact, it got me to pin point it accurately. This book was published by Jouy-le-Moutier local authority, I don't know how spread it was and I wish I had the ISBN as it is not on the book itself (my parents got it and it was likely not sold). Thanks for uploading Image:SANEF.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thnks for the info on Tinsley Station. I learned from my elderly mother the other day that the said station was used as a communal air raid shelter in its basement area which was vast, dark and very damp. Do you have any info on this and also.. is there a direct access to the remaining bits in your photo.. I tried to identify it on Google Earth without success? Thanks again.

Hi Captain, good to hear from you again. Thanks for the information on GeorgeGriffiths behaviour on Wikimapia. He used to edit here as Ggoere (talk · contribs), but that account was indefinitely blocked for vandalism earlier this month. I have, for now, been turning a blind eye to his use of a sock-puppet account to avoid this block, preferring to keep a close eye on the GeorgeGriffiths (talk · contribs) account rather than having to chase down endless sock accounts. However, the WM thread links that you have would be useful in deciding whether or not to continue as I am. Thanks, —Jeremy (talk) 21:12, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. There are a coupe of other accounts that I am watching that appear to be his friends or acquaintances, but that may also be socks. —Jeremy (talk) 21:40, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. I agree that the contributions are similar; however, the two users have messaged each other—including one asking for an article created by the other to be deleted—which is pretty strange behaviour (though not unheard of) if it is the same person.—Jeremy (talk) 19:44, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets of GeorgeGriffiths[edit]

Excuse me, but firstly I do not apprieciate the fact of you talking about me behind my back. Secondly, I am completely fed up with being called 'George Griffiths' The same happened on Wikimapia, after which I quit from, but can I just ask something? If User:GeorgeGriffiths isn't banned or blocked, why would he create sockpuppets? Basically, can people accept the fact that we live a few doors away, but we are entirely different people. Rant Over. Please reply on my User Talk page so I know when you have read this and replied. Thanks Tpxpress (talk) 21:41, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, what have I stumbled upon here. I do not appreciate you talking about me behind my back. I would like to let you know that I am, in fact, a different person from Tpxpress. Tpxpress is my good friend who lives only a few roads away from me, which is why our edits are similar (we both actively edit about our local area, and we both love trains, too). Sheffield Station[edit]

Hi. I appreciate you want to maintain the quality of this article so as to retain GA status. However, I can't see the logic in some of your edits. The photos you've left there (including the couple that are mine) are not the most representative of the station and do not look very nice (one exception being the main photo). Deleting the 'current status' section also seemed illogical, even if there were some minor repetitions. The article now looks bare and shabby in my opinion. My aim here is to promote/showcase my home city and with that the image of the station and my primary means of doing so is providing photos. I'm not an expert at wikipedia - so I just do what I can.

Can we agree to work together to improve the styling, quality and aesthetics of the article? I really feel that more, nicer photos are needed as this is what most people look at when first visiting wikipedia - before moving onto the text, if ever. regards, St BC (talk) 18:46, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regent Court[edit]

The Regent Court article references Harman and Minnis. I have a copy of that at home. I'll see what it says when I get back from work later tonight, but I expect that you are correct. I think that probably an article on brutalist architecture in Sheffield would be better off discussing in more general terms using specific examples of the more notable buildings where needed, rather than trying to list every single tower individually (which would be more suited to a list page). Sources are scarce for many of the buildings currently mentioned in the article, and many of them are not really that notable. However, if I were to put editing time into this area, I would prefer to work on Buildings and structures in Sheffield (which needs work), and only break out more specialised articles when they are needed.—Jeremy (talk) 18:08, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It took me a while to find my copy of the Pevsner Guide, and when I did it wasn't that useful. They say that Regent Court pays lip service to the Modern Movement, but they don't call it brutalist. I have added a comment on the article talk page. Maybe give George a few more days to reply before removing it.—Jeremy (talk) 01:23, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking around Wikipedia I don't really see any precedent to follow; I can't find any other [[Brutalist architecture in X city]] type articles. For me personally an article on the post-war reconstruction of Sheffield would be the most interesting; but then, would the scope of such an article include the closure of much of the heavy industry in the 70s and 80s and the attempts to rebuild the city from the 90s onwards (Student Games developments, Meadowhell etc…)? If that were the case then the article might be best viewed as a sub-article of History of Sheffield, perhaps titled 20th century Sheffield or something like that. If focussing on the 50s and 60s I still think that the wider context needs considered—OK the slum clearances and the filling of bomb sites, but also the remodelling of transport, the death of the first tramway, the construction of the ring roads, that kind of thing. I think this would be something along the lines of what you are suggesting under the title Rebuilding of Sheffield in the 1950s. If going for either of these articles, I would treat it as a new article rather than a move/development of Brutalist apartment blocks in Sheffield. Although I have concerns about the Brutalist apartment blocks in Sheffield article as it stands (e.g. the lack of sources; that it doesn't seem to be able to decide whether to be an article or a list; and that the accompanying template is really just a contents page for the article), if that is what George wants to work on, and as long as he is not making stuff up, or introducing original research, I am inclined to let him get on with it; for now at least.—Jeremy (talk) 18:31, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I'll let you start it, and I'll chime in if I have anything to add.—Jeremy (talk) 18:53, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. Sock puppeting[edit]

You expressed your concern that I maybe a sock puppet of GeorgeGriffiths. I am writing to tell you that I don't even know him and I don't know what I have done to gain that label, but if you could explain to me, we could sort this out. George888 (talk) 16:26, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever you say George. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 20:45, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to intrude, but I feel that, in my own personal opinion, that you are just targeting anyone that edits actively around the Sheffield area and has something to do with the name "George" but you're targeting people at random even though you know they aren't. Like I say, that's my personal view, please feel free to reply here or on my talk page more. I still think you're targeting people that have no connections to User:GeorgeGriffiths or do, (His friends, family) thinking we're him, but we're clearly not. Some people you've expressed as a sockpuppet don't even know him! Tpxpress (talk) 16:23, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Do I have your permission to remove the label? (I know I can do it at any time, but since you put it there I wanted to ask you first). You keep just picking people who live in Sheffield and make contributions a bit like GeorgeGriffiths, maybe they just have the same writing style or maybe they just know the same things. George888 (talk) 16:48, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have looked at the contributions of GeorgeGriffiths and I couldn't find any pages that him and me had both edited, and there was almost no similarity to my edits. Also, have we ever used the same IP address? NO! (I hope, or he has been into my house!!!). George888 (talk) 16:55, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly the same as me. OK, we have pages and edits in common. I've used his I.P to edit ONCE. That was when I was at his house. But you can't have two on (At the same time) using different I.Ps can you? Tpxpress (talk) 20:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have you finished hogging my talk page George? You've tried to make your point and I still have a PoV. Let it go and contribute quality articles to Wikipedia and stay out of arguments and revert wars. Subsequent messages will be deleted. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 06:13, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanting to make a point here, so don't delete this message please. I am not George, so why are you saying one person his hogging your talk page. It's three different. And we're not hogging you page. Tpxpress (talk) 15:40, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Any subsequent messages will be deleted. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 16:02, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The IP you referred to was blocked by another admin for 31 hour for vandalism. I'm afraid that such short term blocks for individual incidents is pretty much the best that we can do with dynamic IPs. I don't have checkuser rights, but if you feel that you have enough evidence you could start an SPI; however, I've watched others engage in long-term sock chasing before and found it to be pretty fruitless. I find blocking on a per-incident basis, and if necessary article protection are the two most useful tools.—Jeremy (talk) 00:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to add that my interpretation of WP:SOCK is that, whilst we should strongly discourage the use of multiple accounts, we should only take further action if multiple accounts (and/or IPs) are being used to "mislead, deceive, or disrupt; to create the illusion of greater support for a position; to stir up controversy; or to circumvent a block". A little bit of logged-out editing is OK if all of the edits made are good faith edits—indeed I have occasionally not noticed that I have been logged out until I have made a few edits. However, as I have said before, I know that the block of the Ggoere (talk · contribs) account is being circumvented, and that is why I have been watching closely to see that there is no repeat of the behaviour that led to the block of that account. Although the recent behaviour of the IP 86.146.234.84 (talk · contribs · info · WHOIS) was simple vandalism and the IP was rightly blocked, if you are right that this IP was being used by a user with a registered account to exhibit two different personalities (vandalism vs good faith edits—WP:GHBH) that would certainly come under the use of multiple accounts for deception and I think that an SPI would be warranted. I notice that that particular IP address has been involved in a previous SPI, though the articles involved in that case seem to be very different from the ones involved in the recent block, so I would assume that the person involved in that SPI was a different person to the person recently using that IP for vandalism.—Jeremy (talk) 23:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lees House, Meersbrook[edit]

Hello,

I am looking for more information on Lees House in Meersbrook, I see you have edited the Meersbrook wiki page previously so I hope you might be able to help. My great-great grandfather (Albert Thomas Lees) lived there at the time of his death in 1945. Do you know if there are any photos of the property before it was demolished? Also, do you know when it was demolished? I am interested in any information you may have. There is so little about the property I can find. Thanks. Mrszone (talk) 09:41, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mrszone, I read 'Heeley and Thereabouts' and used it as reference for some sections of the article. I don't have precise dates, though I wish I did. I don't have photos of the building prior to its demolition but Picture Sheffield; the Central Library on-line repository, should have many, many photos of the area and of Lees House. Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Meadow Hall and Wincobank railway station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Grange Lane railway station (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Gleadless Valley[edit]

Hello, thanks for the compliment. I've now posted the suburb article to the Gleadless Valley page. Please amend as necessary, I'm not an expert on the Valley, I live the other side of town in S6 but I used to deliver up there on the post quite a few years ago. My walk around the area last week to take photos brought back quite a few memories. Thanks Mick Knapton (talk) 21:20, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Move question[edit]

Hi: May I ask why you moved Saint-Gratien (Paris RER) to Gare de Saint-Gratien? (It's on my watchlist.) After I created Gare d'Épinay-sur-Seine, the next station up the line, it was moved to Épinay-sur-Seine (Paris RER)‎ with the edit summary "standard name for RER stations"; in addition, last time I heard, the WikiProject was deciding on an English term to move the "Gare de ...." articles to - station, railway station, or whatever. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:11, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yngvadottir, most, if not nearly all, French railway station articles are named 'Gare de'. I noticed Saint Gratien was still baring the RER suffix so I moved it. EDIT: I have moved Épinay-sur-Seine back to baring the prefix 'Gare de'.

EDIT: The Commonscat article is named Gare d'Épinay-sur-Seine also. Regards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 17:47, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
