Removing template unsigned from the bottom of an article

Please do not post the user IP address of my account when I have not signed the article as I am posting from a shared IP address when I did not sign the bottom of the article and I won’t remove it then, as I have every right to anonymity if I choose.

By publishing my IP address at the bottom of the article without my express permission, this is a breach of GDPR regulations as it allows other users to identify me against my wishes.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a02:c7f:28cd:7e00:f455:1cff:50ee:26db (talk) 17:46, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Don't talk such absolute piffle. If you didn't want to be identified by your IP address, you could have posted from a registered user account to provide you with anonymity. Please respect Somalia sovereign integrity. All I do is right wrongs on African pages. Including misinformation on independent African nation territorial integrity is disrespect and racism. Char Aznable, commonly known as "Red Comet"

The Original Barnstar
The person who performed Vandalism of the article"1936 Summer Olympics" also tampered with other articles (e.g. Japan at the Olympics) and Japanese version articles, so caution and surveillance is required.

In fact, in the case of other countries, there are many Austrian art competition medals, so if they are added, Austria's medal ranking should be in the top 10, but the person who tampered with it,stupidly changed only the number of Japanese medals. It can only be said that his "Vandalism" itself contained an error. 東京オリンピック1964 (talk) 10:49, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello there

Could you please be more conscious of your tone at the Teahouse? You have been rather snappy at new editors who appear to be merely confused. I understand saying the same things over and again everyday can take its toll on anyone, but hey that’s precisely what we signed up for. Could you please be more mindful of this? I will be more assiduous next time I edit, novice mistake on my part. Thank you. ButterSlipper (talk) 17:26, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. Paralympics medal table - Spain

I know the table is up to the 2018 Winter Paralympics, my change was done as the medal tally of Spain was wrong and did not add up. You can check it by yourself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JulenBengoitia (talkcontribs) 09:34, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

I don't think I reverted any of your edits. Which revert were you talking about? Perhaps you intended your message for somebody else? --David Biddulph (talk) 08:16, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi David, I hope you're well and keeping safe. I am intending to get The Boat Race up to GA quality, and would like to do it pretty quickly. I was wondering if (hoping that) you might want to give me a hand doing that? The article has become a bit bloated for the top-level coverage I'd expect, and there's still quite a bit of unreferenced material in there. For context, I'm trying to get a good topic candidate up and running, based on this. Anyway, if you could help that'd be marvellous, if not, no problem at all, I just wanted you to know what I was intending. All the best. Brief thanks

Thanks for placing the warning for the vandalism to talk:wikitext after I reverted it. I've not previously had cause to use the warning templates, and was busy browsing to see which seemed appropriate. When I arrived on the user's page, I found the task already done (using the same template I'd settled on.) Musiconeologist (talk) 14:29, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Jack Colwell page

Hi, thanks for reverting to the pre-vandalised page! However, in the process we've lost a legitimate revision to the page (a section about the album 'Swandream') that I made about 10 minutes ago. I can't figure out how to reinstate this bit without reinstating the vandalism. I tried to find the code for my 'Swandream' revision so I could cut and paste, but had no luck. Can you fix it? Re. a case of WP:CIR

919499sp seems to be having difficulties either A) understanding the advice I previously gave to them (which is to properly format their references) or B) writing in coherent English (this is gibberish; I went to the original source because I couldn't be bothered trying to decipher it). Instead of handing out inaccurate warning templates; you probably ought to file a report at ANI due to this editor's obvious WP:CIR problems. I might do so myself if you don't do it first and the behaviour persists. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 21:20, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Pippa Middleton wikipedia page

Hi David, I received your message about my edits to the Pippa Middleton wikipedia page. It was claimed that my edits were based on poorly sourced material, but I'm not sure why I need a source to justify my edit, because any media article about Pippa Middleton just calls her 'Pippa Middleton' and not 'Pippa Matthews.' The link to the Royal Family website (the webpage about Prince Louis' christening) doesn't prove that Pippa has legally changed her name, so I'm not sure if that can count as a verifiable, accurate source to justify calling Pippa Middleton 'Pippa Matthews,' and I don't think Pippa herself has said publicly that she has legally changed her surname, which is why I made the edit in the article. I think Wikipedia should just assume married women don't take their husbands' name unless publicly stated otherwise. That's what people in real life would do. Wikipedia doesn't change the surname of married gay men so that they have the same surnames as their male spouse. Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Buttigieg#Personal_life/. So why can't Wikipedia extend the same courtesy to married women who have not publicly chosen to take their husband's surname? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raccy745 (talkcontribs) 10:40, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't make assumptions; it reports what is said in published reliable sources. The place for any discussion is on the article's talk page, not here. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:00, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Alfredo Jadresic: You beat me to it!

I learned yesterday of Alfredo's death (not yesterday, in fact, but about three hours after he died, as my wife has been in constant contact with his wife/widow), but only today of the announcement from the Faculty of Medicine. I was going to add the information to his article, but I saw you had got there before me. Anyway I'll add the places (Iquique - Santiago). I had him in the category of Chileans of Croatian origin, but an officious editor removed the entry on the ground that I didn't provide a convincing proof. I was hoping that the announcement from the Faculty of Medicine would mention his Croatian origin, but it doesn't. However, there will probably be an obituary in El Mercurio in the next week or so, and I hope it will mention that his parents (or grandparents -- I'm not sure) immigrated from Dalmatia. Sorry for contradicting you about the JavaScript thing at the help desk. It was a well-intentioned suggestion - many programming languages will indeed get mad at you for mixing up single quotes and double quotes - but JavaScript is an ugly duckling and accepts both (thus confusing everybody). Editing/minor edits

I think this is a part of the larger problem that I treat edits as things that I can come back to later without interruption, that's the vision I typically get from popular culture, that is to say that all your revisions will be realized when they are all pristine and clear, after you've gone away had a think and read about it, had a clear of your head etc etc, at which point you make a major edit. But at this point I'm pretty certain I was wrong.

I notified the person who reverted the edit User talk:Holidayruin either just after or before I made the edit, I adjusted it based on the criteria he/she wanted at Park Chung Hee. I am sorry I keep forgetting to mark the edits as minor/major as I'm generally distracted by , I should be taking a temporary leave from Wikipedia for a bit regardless. Although I realize this is a problem and if it happens again I should probably get blocked from editing for whatever span, permanent restriction would really sting though. Before the first warning I hadn't read the requirements for marking something as a minor edit. Sorry for the trouble.

1992 Summer Paralympics

During a search for another subject, I ended up discovering that there are the results of the Paralympic Games for People with Intellectual Disabilities that were held in Madrid, a few days after the closing in Barcelona. The Games were organized by the same Organizing Committee and by the ICC as an integral part. However, the results were lost or for some reason they are not within the IPC database. In this research I acidentaly found the medals table and added them to the historical table. Therefore, Romania and Dominican Republic appear with more medals like all the countries that won medals in Madrid, as happened with Uruguay.

Mean edit summary and bad templating

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

It's not very civil to just call someone utterly incompetent (As you did towards ACtiling) instead of, you know, just letting them know what they did wrong? You also just shoved a template in their face with Redwarn instead of correcting them (and the template didn't let them know the difference), which isn't going to fix their problems in the future. If you're going to bite the newbies, at least tell them what you bit them for. ☢️Plutonical☢️ᵀᵃˡᵏ ᵗᵒ ᵐᵉ 14:43, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Tall Buildings

I note you reverted my addition of Norwich Cathedral on grounds that the lead paragraph specifically excludes spires. This is an error in the lead. It cites the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat as excluding spires, but if you follow links in that article, you will find that the Council specifically includes spires (it excludes flagpoles and antennae). This fact was brought to my attention by Mangoe at the article's deletion discussion page Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_tallest_buildings_by_United_Kingdom_settlement. Would you mind reinstating my text? Elemimele (talk) 12:41, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

The CBTUH page seems to talk of 3 different criteria. If there is confusion on List of tallest buildings by United Kingdom settlement and you wish to suggest changing the lede, the place to discuss it is on the article's talk page (and then there would be the fun of changing the article to match a new definition), though of course you may wish to wait until the AFD has run its course. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:56, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
Yup, two of those criteria include spires, and one is to the highest occupied floor which is going to be a total nightmare to determine (for a lot of buildings, anyway; I have no idea, for example, what use is made of any part of Norwich's cathedral spire. There's a window half way up, but whether anyone does anything up there, I have no clue. I don't know if anyone does anything at the top of the city hall tower either; certainly they don't in the bell section, and I have no clue what excess height the bell tower is above the occupied floor below it). I think you're right, there's not much point in substantial work unless the article survives AfD. Best wishes! Elemimele (talk) 13:19, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

That mischief at Tonga

You just "rolled back" some vandalism at Tonga. That was just a couple of minutes after I reverted that same bit of mischief. Now, there's no history of my having reverted it--neither at the Tonga history, nor in my own Contribution history. I'm not complaining; the vandalism has been undone, and I'm not concern about who, on the record, undid it. But I'm curious about this "rollback," and how whatever you did was different from what I did. (I also wonder if what I did doesn't show, perhaps because you did whatever at the same time--and maybe clicked Publish Changes a moment before I did.) Uporządnicki (talk) 14:03, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

UPDATE! I just saw the Wikipedia blurb on Rollback. I think that makes things as clear to me as they need to be. Uporządnicki (talk) 14:09, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
Yes, it can be confusing. It doesn't matter what route is used to revert, rollback, or undo an edit. If 2 editors do something different to the same part of an article at the same time, it can be flagged as an edit conflict, but if the 2 editors do the same thing, the history records whichever hits the button first, and the 2nd editor sees a confused situation, thinking that their edit has gone through but in fact it was the other editor's change (without being told of what has happened). --David Biddulph (talk) 14:26, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Hey, Bruh! You just reverted my changes made to that calling them 'unconstructive' and reverting them actually bruh I hadn't edited the article entirely and though that 'll just first edit the entire page and then give a valid reason for editing the document in the edit summary. Also, it'll be of great help if you enlighten me on what you thought as 'unconstructive' in my changes made to the page. Also, bruh I didn't mean to make a test edit. Waiting for your reply Yours Hector98160 (talk) 13:53, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Crystal clear. You removed the infobox, you removed at least one maintenance tag, you removed about 10 reference citations, you changed spelling from British English to American in an article that is written in British English about a British subject, you broke the referencing in the lede and changed it from proper footnotes to a copy of the browser rendering, and you used the edit summary "I changed the grammar mistakes". Perhaps there is more, but that seems enough to describe it as unconstructive. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:10, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
I see that you have made further edits and again broken the referencing. If you don't understand how Wikipedia works, please read Help:Introduction and the links therefrom before you make any further edits. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:16, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Your user page

Hi David Biddulph! I hope you're doing well! I was going through some logs, and I saw that your user page has been torn up a number of times by vandals and trolls. I also noticed that it had no edit protection at all (just indefinite move protection). I went ahead and fixed that for you. ;-) If you don't want this protection applied and would like it removed, let me know and I'll be happy to do that for you. I just figured I'd help you out and let you know about it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:04, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Danners430. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, British Rail Class 43 (HST), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Danners430 (talk) 14:02, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Done. --David Biddulph (talk) 06:59, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi David Biddulph, just to make you aware I have undone your latest edit to British Rail Class 43 (HST) again. This is because Facebook generally cannot be used as a reliable source on Wikipedia, under User Generated Content. Only if the post was made by an official account, such as the Locomotive Services Limited Facebook account, would it be considered a reliable source. I have done a quick search online, and so far cannot find a source for the livery change - although it may have taken place, until there is a source that can be used it shouldn't be changed on Wikipedia. Many thanks for your understanding - Danners430 (talk) 08:36, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
I will look forward to YOU providing a source which YOU consider reliable. You presumably consider that the GUIDELINE at WP:UGC trumps the POLICY at WP:IAR. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:58, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

"Disruptive Editing"

Hi David. My editing is not disruptive. I am removing material in the lead that was a) added recently and by a single editor from what I can tell . b) is not substantiated by one source, and the other source is suffering from link rot, and c) contradicts other Wiki articles and evidence. Please, let me know why you think removing a poorly sourced, recently added section in the lead is disruptive editing? Thank you 174.95.17.153 (talk) 02:05, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

To put it in context, see how the lead read just a year ago here --174.95.17.153 (talk) 02:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
Additionally, I will present respectable sources all agreeing that Association Football does derive from early medieval and prior ball games, see here for Britannica, here for Bundensliga, here for Oxford reference --174.95.17.153 (talk) 02:14, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
You removed the first sentence. See MOS:LEADSENTENCE. If you object to changes made in November last year, you can discuss them on the talk page of the article, or you can suggest an alternative, but you oughtn't to just delete the start of the lede. - David Biddulph (talk) 02:16, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
I thought the lead started well enough without the controversial sentence. I was not vandalizing. 174.95.17.153 (talk) 02:37, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Archiving for "Turmeric"?

Hi David Biddulph, the reason for restoring archived material on the Talk Page for Turmeric is that the discussion is currently very relevant. And, per Help:Archiving a talk page:

"It is customary to periodically archive old discussions on a talk page when that page becomes too large. Bulky talk pages may be hard to navigate, contain obsolete discussion, or become a burden for users with slow Internet connections or computers."

Since the discussion on the talk page is currently relevant, and this talk page is not "too large" or "a burden for users with slow Internet connections or computers", then it stands to reason that the discussion material should be restored to the talk page. The issues are neither "resolved" nor "stale". Respectfully, Dcattell (talk) 20:48, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
