Ahmet Bayraktar and Baykar[edit]

Hi Dijkstra, many thanks for your useful contributions to Baykar article. Agree Linkedin only wouldn't be enough, but now found Ahmet's resume on Baykar Makina website, could you please include this into article with reference? https://www.baykarmakina.net/yonetim-AHMET-BAYRAKTAR.html

Since you can read Turkish, are you able to find a good source confirming that the younger ones are Ozdemir's sons please?

And could you do a bit of research about the exact relation between Baykar Defence and Baykar Makina? The websites are similar, are they mirrors of same content or different branches of the same holding company doing separate things?

Thanks again! --Armatura (talk) 09:38, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Armatura! Thanks to you aswell for your contributions. I've added Ahmet Bayraktar to the key people section with the source you provided and also added a news source related to Özdemir Bayraktar and his sons. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a verifiable source about Baykar Makina, my guess is that the company changed its name to Baykar Savunma (Baykar Defence) at some point. Also, its website is the exact same with Baykar Savunma, and it redirects to "baykarsavunma.com" when you try to click on any of the links in the website. --Dijkstra (talk) 19:33, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, Dijkstra, thank you!
  1. If baykardefence.com, baykarsavunma.com and baykarmakina.com are mirror sites, do you think we shall mention all of them in infobox to clear the confusion?
  2. Baykar Defence.com is the translation of Baykar Savunma, okay, but the mystery the use of Baykar Makina trademark (I presume it means Baykar Machines?) remains a mystery in my mind. Makina was definitely the original name (when they were producing automobile parts), and I used to think they got renamed Baykar Defence when they switched to UAVs and CI4, etc, but Andair presses release about cancellation of sales to Baykar mentions their full name as Baykar Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S, any idea what does the "Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S" stand for?

Regards, --Armatura (talk) 21:12, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Armatura:
1. I think we should only mention baykardefence.com, as it is the English language version of the baykarsavunma.com, which I think is the main website.
2. 'makina' means 'machine' and I don't know why Andair mentioned the company as Baykar Makina. Savunma can be a subcompany of Makina but I couldn't find any sources about it. "Sanayi ve Ticaret AS" means "industry and trade inc". --Dijkstra (talk) 22:00, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dijkstra Thanks again. I wonder whether they use Defence / Savunma trademark when they are making open deal about products of military use and the old Makina trademark when they don't want to identify as military / defence manufacturer (Andair stated they did not know about the use of their products Baykar combat drones). Will mention Savunma and Makina in the Name section with translations kindly provided by yourself. Regards --Armatura (talk) 22:48, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
