January 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! 220 of Borg 03:52, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of West Indies Twenty20 International cricket records, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_West_Indies_Twenty20_International_cricket_records&redlink=1.

It is possible that the bot was mistaken and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Poecilotheria[edit]

Hi, you've done good work on Poecilotheria and its species. Please don't take the changes I've made as a criticism! Some points to note in future if you work on animal articles:

  • It's important to use reliable secondary sources to establish the acceptance of a species (see WP:RS). For spiders, this will almost always be the World Spider Catalog.
  • The presence or absence of parentheses in the authority for a name is significant; they shouldn't be added or removed. The presence of parentheses shows that the species has been moved to a different genus. See Author citation (zoology).
  • Wikipedia style is to use lower case for English names; see MOS:LIFE.

If I can help or advise in any way, please ask me on my talk page. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:44, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Synonyms[edit]

If you use the World Spider Catalog for synonyms, you need to interpret the lists they give with care. Look for example at the entry for Poecilotheria fasciata. It lists, under the heading "Taxonomic references", the following:

  • Mygale fasciata Latreille, 1804a: 160 (D).
  • Mygale fasciata Latreille, 1806: 83 (D).
  • Mygale fasciata Hahn, 1835: 65, f. 157 (Df).
  • Mygale fasciata C. L. Koch, 1841a: 41, f. 717 (f).
  • Scurria fasciata C. L. Koch, 1850: 74.
  • Poecilotheria fasciata Simon, 1885d: 38.
  • Poecilotheria fasciata Karsch, 1892: 274 (Dm).
  • Poecilotheria fasciata Pocock, 1899a: 87, pl. 7, f. 2 (f).
  • Scurria fasciata Pocock, 1900a: 192.
  • Poecilotheria fasciata Schmidt, 2003l: 245, f. 795 (f).

These are not all synonyms. The first occurrence of a combination (genus name + species name) is a synonym; the others are just references using that name. Thus the synonyms are:

  • Mygale fasciata Latreille, 1804
  • Scurria fasciata (Latreille, 1850)
  • Poecilotheria fasciata (Latreille, 1885)

Note the authority for a zoological binomen is the authority for the species name, put in parentheses if someone moved it to another genus.

(In botany, you would put both names without the date, e.g. Poecilotheria fasciata (Latreille) Simon.)

It's a bit complicated, and easy to get wrong (as I did when explaining it the first time!). Peter coxhead (talk) 10:47, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled right[edit]

You seem to know your way around creating appropriate articles; might I suggest you apply for the Autopatrolled user right? This will prevent the articles you create from being listed on Special:NewPagesFeed, saving the reviewers there a bit of time, and saving you from the possibility of being tagged by an overzealous new-page reviewer. Wishing you continued good editing, —swpbT 15:12, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Liocranidae[edit]

Autopatrolled granted[edit]

Hi Gihan Jayaweera, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! MusikAnimal talk 20:24, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the references you add[edit]

Please actually look at the World Spider Catalog references you rightly add to spider articles you've been creating. You've now put several of the species in the wrong family. Orthobula impressa is the latest. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:02, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You also need to check the wikilinks you create. In at least two cases, you've created the wrong links to the genus. For example, at Poltys_columnaris, you linked the genus as Poltys, but this isn't an article about a spider! Peter coxhead (talk) 17:31, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Useful category[edit]

"Category:Endemic fauna of Sri Lanka" is a category I've only recently come across, and which you could usefully add to some of the articles you create on Sri Lankan animals. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:43, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Aiud (disambiguation)[edit]

Hello Gihan Jayaweera,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Aiud (disambiguation) for deletion, because it doesn't seem to have any encyclopedic content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Xx236 (talk) 11:42, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What are you doing?[edit]

Is Aiud Pagida? Xx236 (talk) 11:48, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't know the connection between Aiud and Pagida. I may have destroied your work, sorry, but you don't help either.Xx236 (talk) 12:06, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Pagida (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Mite into List of mites of Sri Lanka. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication.
