Pre season friendlies

Hi, I saw you editing Ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's qualification so I thought you might have something to say at 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the talkpage. There is a díscussion if we should add pre-tournament matches. Qed237 (talk) 00:34, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Dirk Nowitzki

Hi Kante4 - here's why I made those changes.

When a subject does not have its own article, the reader clicking the link may be taken to a more general article, or to a section within it. The best way to do this is not through piping, but by using a redirect, for the reasons stated below.

Here are some relevant extracts from guides to best practice in piping and redirects:

  1. From Wikipedia:Piped_link#When_not_to_use:
  • It is generally not good practice to pipe links simply to avoid redirects. The number of links to a redirect page can be a useful gauge of when it would be helpful to spin off a subtopic of an article into its own page.
  • Introducing unnecessary invisible text makes the article more difficult to read in page source form.
  • Non-piped links make better use of the "what links here" tool, making it easier to track how articles are linked and helping with large-scale changes to links.
  1. From Wikipedia:Redirect#Do_not_.22fix.22_links_to_redirects_that_are_not_broken:
  • There is usually nothing wrong with linking to redirects to articles. Some editors are tempted, upon finding a link to a redirect page, to bypass the redirect and point the link directly at the target page. While there are a limited number of cases where this is beneficial, there is otherwise no good reason to pipe links solely to avoid redirects. Doing so is generally an unhelpful, time-wasting exercise that can actually be detrimental. It is almost never helpful to replace [[redirect]] with [[target|redirect]].

I would also point out that two of the links I fixed were piped to targets that are themselves redirects; the piping was a pointless exercise, so your reversion of my changes actively damaged the article. I will reinstate my changes. Colonies Chris (talk) 12:29, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Blank lines after headings

Hi. It appears pointless to me to remove blank lines after headings (like you did here) when bots are programmed to make sure they are there (see this change). Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 11:06, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Well, the point I'm trying to make is: It is perhaps not *your* but *a* problem because while the MOS doesn't state you're wrong the reality is that your removals of blank lines result in unnecessary extra changes (by bots) and unnecessarily long diffs (for your edits). My suggestion would be to suspend these changes until the bots' behaviour is changed (which you could work towards to…). Robby.is.on (talk) 13:10, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Medals

The link you gave applies for Olympic Games, but not necessarily for competitions like the World Cup & the Euros. Please check the featured article Thierry Henry[1]. Also similar good articles like Lionel Messi[2], Cesc Fabregas[3] etc. It's Winners, Runners-up & third place. Not gold, silver & bronze. But I agree with the chronological thing & have updated accordingly. Renoogreverof (talk) 11:02, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

It's updated as Winner, Runner-up & third place, according to weightage. Thierry Henry is the only featured article in association football biographies with credible honours list. So we're using it as example, to write other AF biographies. But chronological ordering thing doesn't apply for him, as the weightage of his honours, comes in chronological order itself. Similar is the case with good articles like Lionel Messi & Cesc Fabregas. So the only discussion here should be whether it should be Winner, Runner-up & Third Place according to weightage, or Runner-up, Third Place & Winner according to chronological order. At present, I've updated it according to weightage. Renoogreverof (talk) 11:28, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes. Let's keep it as it is now. Looks perfect. Renoogreverof (talk) 11:43, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Result

I don't know it was already discussed. I changed it because I think the new model is not as attractive as former one, and I checked the edit history before and found all the change was made by one user, and the user was more like a robot. So I thought it was more like vandalism. And where did you discuss about this? 七战功成 (talk) 21:02, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Didn't see the message before. But I didn't find any related discussion. Could you provide the link of them? 七战功成 (talk) 04:11, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

hockeybox

this was something that came up about a month ago, something about WP:ACCESS I think. It helps a lot with the progression and other issues that I never see but would be obvious on small devices I believe. Much easier to do the progression, and when there is a shootout you just add lines that say "soshots1" and "soshots2".18abruce (talk) 13:51, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

There may be other minor modifications as well that I am not aware of or didn't understand. User:Frietjes is the one who should take credit and may be able to tell you more.18abruce (talk) 14:06, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

FIFA official stats only

OK, I respect stat consensus on English Wikipedia. So I report the article had wrong stats. Please check out and correct in List of international goals scored by Robert Lewandowski. These articles include FIFA not recognized stats (1 Goal South Korea vs Poland. 7 October 2011) This match was unoffcial match by FIFA. Therefore Not 85 matches-42 Goals, 84 matches-41 Goals is accurate.

Unofficial match information - South Korea 2 vs 2 Poland (7 October 2011, Seoul)

Goalscorers
South Korea:
Park Chu-young: 2 Goals / 1 match are already Excluded since that time - So currenct stats - 68 matches 24 goals is accurate
Poland:
Robert Lewandowski: 1 Goal / 1 match is Included - Not 85 matches-42 Goals, 84 matches-41 Goals is accurate
Jakub Błaszczykowski: 1 Goal / 1 match is Included - - Not 89 matches-18 Goals, 88 matches-17 Goals is accurate

South korean international related articles are accurate. So we need not to change. But We have to correct many polish international related articlesFootwiks (talk)

About honors

I don't get this. Isn't wikipedia about following source? the same goes with Ronaldo. Go on all websites, even official ones, they all credit him with the 2016 uefa super cup as well. UEFA anf FIFA apparently allow clubs to decide who they give an honor to. Go on Real Madrid's website, they also credit Ronaldo with the Uefa Super Cup from 2016. These are not just 'any' source, these are OFFICIAL websites. As far as Wikipedia goes, it's about following source, and I am simply doing that. Who made the rule that they have to be in the squad??? I am not saying you are wrong. I simply wanna see where on wikipedia it says that they need to be in the squad. Even the highly respected website 'Transfermarkt' credits both Ronaldo and Messi for those 2 honors. And if there is no official wikipedia rule that they need to be in the squad, then they should be added, simply because wikipedia is all about following source. Thank you Csknowitall (talk) 13:56, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmm okay, I kinda get your point. So what is needed is a picture of both Messi and Ronaldo standing with a medal for those two cups? The fact is still, that their clubs decide who get an honor or not. The same with Bendtner who played very few games for Juventus, and they were in doubt to which they would give him a medal, but they ended up doing it anyways. And also, there should be no discussion at all to what is right. The rule is, their own football clubs decide who should get an honor, period. If both Barcelona and Real Madrid credits Messi and Ronaldo for those, then I think they should be given to them. Let's just be clear that this is not any source, this is the OFFICIAL websites from their two clubs, it simply doesn't get any more reliable than that. I respect you A LOT as a huge sport editor on Wikipedia, and I am not trying to make an issue. I am just so confused because the whole idea of Wikipedia is to 'follow the source' 'credit this' 'credit that'. I really just did what I could in good intention, even providing official source. And no offense, but I think your point with 'of course they say that' is not at all fair. You can say that about all sources really.. by that logic, I could say, let's delete whole wikipedia, because all the millions of sources provided here 'simply just say that'. Thank you so much Csknowitall (talk) 14:46, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

I completely agree that it's the right thing... but as I told you, Wikipedia is about following source, and that is not being done there.. so I just naturally thought it was a mistake. If they didn't play they of course don't deserve the honor, but they still got them.. anyways, I respect that decision.

Going a little off-topic, since you are such a big sports editor here, can I request the creation for Erwin Helmchen? a german footballer who scored 800+ goals.. kinda weird to me he is not even created yet, when someone like Abe Lenstra is created already. Hello

Hi, can you give an opinion on blocking user Fanny46, he is not listening and is keep adding unsourced transfers and flags to the infoboxes on handball articles, here Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Fanny46 Snowflake91 (talk) 20:34, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

I've removed "weight" parameters from Template:Infobox handball biography so it should not display anymore, its easier that way than removing all weights from articles one-by-one Snowflake91 (talk) 10:53, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Hockey

Hi , please create this article in asian hockey.

Could you look at this article?

Hello Kante! :) I just wanted to ask you if you could take a look at this weird article Soccer players with more goals in South American (CONMEBOL) World Cup qualifiers Personally I think this article should be deleted, because it makes no sense that it should be an article on its own. It looks like something that should be added to an already existing article, and not have its own. Also that the spelling is wrong, 'more' should be replaced with 'most'. If you have the time, could you have a look at this? Thank you! :) Csknowitall (talk) 09:12, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, from Portugal,

wrong edit on your part, if you check his manager profile from the reliable BDFUTBOL.com site (Spanish as him), you will see he spent TWO SEASONS at Levante and THREE at Córdoba, so the templates are 100% correct OK (they just need to be filled in)?

Attentively, have a nice week --85.242.133.151 (talk) 23:32, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi there Kante, Jonathan here from South Africa

I would like to find out why you keep reverting my posts? I am a Executive member of the South African Ice Hockey Federation and a Licenced IIHF Game Official and therefore take a major interest in the tournaments. I have just used the information provided on the IIHF website and therefore don't understand what I am doing incorrectly.

Please can you let me know so that I can try and avoid this in the future.

Kind Regards
