S Ossetia referednum article[edit]

Luis, thanks for letting me know about "S Ossetia referednum" article. I hope Kokoity and co won't survive till Nov 2006. Cheers, --Kober 19:32, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Georgian Soviet Encyclopedia has an article about him. I'll translate it tomorrow. I'm very tired right now.:) I know he studied Georgian and painted a portrait of St Nino.--Kober 19:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanx :))--Kober 19:58, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!!![edit]

Ah, Luis. Thanks a lot for your attention and kind words. It's so nice of you to remember about this day. I wish all the best to you, your family, friends and compatriots too. --Kober 15:12, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I can. Have a great time, Luis. Give my regards to George.:)
Hi Luis, how are you doing? I am doing great. The school year started and unfortunately I am very busy, but I usually log on wiki every once in a while. Thanks for your citations and corrections on the introduction on Georgia's country page. 68.156.159.10 moved those paragraphs to Brief Introduction section, which I thought was totally unnecessary, because the whole point of writing the paragraphs was to have kind of introduction to the country in general. I just looked at some GA country articles. For example, Sweden. I saw your articles on travelwiki and they look amazing. Thanks a lot. Sosomk 20:36, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kudos[edit]

Hey Luis. Your article on Devdariani is excellent. George told me about him. I'll soon start an article about Niko Nikoladze but unfortunately I could not find sufficient info about Geno Adamia (may him rest in peace). I'm delighted by Lang's book. I found many facts totally unknown to me especially those related to the 1905 revolution and the extent of destruction by the Russian punitive forces. I've also never heard before about the Russian Patriotic League led by two fanatic clerics who organized attacks on Jews and Georgians. Thanks a lot for providing such a great book. All the best, Kober 10:02, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Luis, please check Geno Adamia.

Klyatvennaya kniga[edit]

The literal translation would be "The 21st Century Oath Book" or less ambiguous: "The Oath Book of the 21st Century", but I have to see the context to be sure. `'mikka (t) 16:54, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Luis[edit]

Hi Luis, how are you? please check out my argument on Talk:Copt. Sosomk 17:29, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How are you?[edit]

Hi Luis. Please review Niko Nikoladze. It was really a brilliant idea to start the article and I added some more info. Thanks, --Kober 14:02, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great job on Ilia Chavchavadze. Btw, I finished Lang's book. It was totally awesome. I'll start Downlings work soon. Thanks, --Kober 14:24, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot, Luis. I'll send an email to George for further details. Another book?:))) Wow, great! Many thanks again. Cheers, --Kober 14:39, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I gotta monitor Georgian people first before I discuss Copts. If Stalin's picture ends up there I am gonna have a heart- attack. As far as Copts, the users did not even respond as you see, they have already hijacked the article and do not care what I think :) Sosomk 21:09, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Totally agree with you. Wiki is awsome except of POV problems. BTW my friend in Virginia got lots of books from ebay about Georgia. There was one book by Lang about the Georgian Saints and guess where was it from? St. Elizabeth Bookstore from Ontario, Canada. :) Small world. Sosomk 21:22, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Kober is amazing. Looking forward to get to know him. Do you know him personally? My friend came in Tbilisi to visit me and he might come there next year as well. I might get him to get you that book. I think Lang is not better than you. He is a good scholar and after I have skimmed through his book you could tell that it was not written by a Georgian, but when i read your articles they're amazing. It feels like you are Georgian:):) Sosomk 21:40, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I just meant that you know more about insider's view of the culture and of course outsider's as well. I think that's because you travelled to Georgia more and are aware of it well. I don't know if Lang got to travell to Georgia that much. You know there were buch of Commies and crapy people for that time. :) Sosomk 21:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I left some comments about these photos on Talk:Georgian people. plz take a glance. Regards Tamokk 16:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you very much Luis, but my character and interests don’t fit admin’s job. I have no idea how to deal with this duty. Furthermore, I’m becoming busier and busier in real life and I will hardly be able to monitor a wide range of articles, mediate conflicts, etc. Another important issue is that I have a very well defined POV on certain topics :) I’d better stay an average user and continue my contributions to Georgia-related articles. Anyway, thanks for your offer. All the best, Kober 15:53, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Luis, good news! The foreign ministers of NATO agreed on extensive dialogue with Georgia. Your article on Chavchavadze is great. It was very much needed. Thank you. --Kober 17:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just watching Rustavi 2 TV. I think the info will soon appear on the internet. --Kober 17:18, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Really greeeeeeeeeeeeat! I was a bit nervous about what the French minister would do. France usually hesitates when NATO is about to take a more or less radical decision:). Kober 17:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Luis. Did you listen to Saakashvili's speech at the UN assembly today? Here's the text. --Kober 16:24, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits on the Chavchavadze article are amazing, Luis. I'll also add some more info. I hope our combined efforts will produce an excellent article. Have a great weekend too. Thanks a lot,--Kober 19:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Luis, please review my edits on Alexander Chavchavadze. I removed a passage on Shamil's raid, but I saved it to my PC to add it to the forthcoming article on Tsinandali. :) If you don't agree with me, please feel free to restore it. :) Thanks, --Kober 17:57, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Could you also add an image of Tsinandali palace if you have one? Thanks --Kober 18:00, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I got bunch of Tsinandali pictures. Let me get them from my camera and I will upload them. In addition, Luis, I was wondering that there is not even an article about the great man like David Lang on wiki. Sosomk 13:42, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They ar not the best quality, because I had to snapshot them from the camera.

Please see Thou Art a Vineyard. I want to upload a media, but I can't figure out what i that .ogg stuff. I will findout and upload the muic file with it. Sosomk 15:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I got the sound file working. :) Sosomk 15:53, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Luis, how are you? Saakashvili visited Upper Abkhazia today. For the first time since 1993, President of Georgia stepped on the Abkhazian soil! I finished Downling's book and found it totally awesome. I liked very much how the author stressed the legitimate basis of the autocephaly of the Georgian church abolished by the Russians. Thank you so much.--Kober 11:28, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Luis, what do u think about the recent developments in Georgia? Several Russian officers are arrested on charges of espionage. Russia recalls ambassador. All the best, --Kober 15:02, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response, Luis. Russians also plan to evacuate the families of their military personnel in Georgia. The Russian headquarters in Tbilisi is still surrounded by Georgian police officers. The US ambassador in Moscow plans to discuss the problem with the Russian foreign ministry. Bagapsh is also panicking. The events has already caused an outcry in the Northern Caucasus. On one of the Ingush web forums somebody even suggested to break away from Russia and form a confederation with the freindly state of Georgia and, to my surprise, many visitors of that forum agreed that it would be better than Ingushetia's current position within the Russian Federation :)--Kober 15:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The arrest of Giorgadze's men, Kodori, Russian spies, NATO - things are going faster than expected. Let's see what Novemeber will bring. --Kober 15:34, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so. :) Ossetians produce excellent beer, btw ;) --Kober 15:50, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry Luis :) I deserve a 24 hr block :)) Czech beer is my favorite: tastes good, looks good and the price is good. :) --Kober 16:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
:):);) that' so funny. It is true that Georgian wine is excellent and maybe we shold push that direction. As far beer is concerned, the Georgian beer tastes like crap in comparison with the Bavarian Beer and etc.:):) It is a Mountainous Georgian tradition to do beer. There is also the beer called Aluda, after the Vaja-Pshavela's Khevsur character and etc.

He he he. Luis, please tell what beer you like and my POV will be balanced. :))) I don't know anything about the UN emergency session. I'm now watching Rustavi 2 news. I'll email you later. Regards, --Kober 16:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Welcome, BTW do you think that we have to have his named spelled in Russian in the article? Maybe I need to talk to Kober about that? Sosomk 17:00, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Luis, I started a Georgian version of the Rwandan Genocide and I’ll soon put it in the mainspace. I spent these days fighting with POV-pushers on Talk:Kodoir Vally and Talk:Tbilisi. Petri Krohn destroyed the article about Upper Abkhazia and redirected it to de-jure Government of Abkhazia. If he insists on maintaining a separate article on Kodori as a geographic area, I will proceed and create an article about Upper Abkhazia as a legitimate administrative entity. What do you think?
On the Tbilisi page an anonymous Armenian nationalist claims that Tbilisi had never been a Georgian capital until the Soviet period and it was actually an Armenian-Persian city. Is not it too ridiculous? Regards, Kober 05:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your support Luis. :) There's real anti-Georgian hysteria on the Internet and elswhere. Cheers, --Kober 16:42, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Luis, I emailed you.--Kober 16:02, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I saw you were threatening people to gunpoint at Talk:Kodori Valley. :):). Sosomk 03:03, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Luis. See this and this. Georgia is under the siege, but I don't think that Georgia feels much discomfort because of it. Life is going on as usually :) Cheers, --Kober 19:27, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Luis, thanks for your positive feedback on the spy dispute page. You are the best, Kober 16:12, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you Luis. gagimarjos :))))--Kober 16:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Where did you find this, Luis? I'll translate it in a minute. I'm hesitating to request the Georgia article lock beacuse some nice guys from German wikipedia frequently edit anonymously this article and add valuable info. Thanks, --Kober 18:43, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done it, Luis. Thanks for the image. --Kober 19:06, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, Luis. Thank you for your words. That discussion has consumed a huge amount of precious time that I should use for studying. I'm also getting tired of being acused of nationalism, russophobia, etc. I tried my best to establish a cooperation pattern with Ghirla, but to no avail. All the best, my dear friend. --Kober 17:05, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks alot. I think you should apply for the citizenship of Georgia and chose a Georgian name when talking on Wikipedia pages. LOOOL:)) Luis, I'm going to start a couple of articles about the Soviet occupation of Georgia if I find enough time; then I'll return to History of Abkhazia. Honestly, I had nighmares when working on this article and I chose to take a break. All the best, --Kober 17:16, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

She’s killed, Luis! What a wonderful world! :( Kober 16:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Luis. I think I'd better ignore him. I have no time and energy to apply for admin's interference. However, I'm going to revert any effort to eliminate that image. Thank you for your support. --Kober 14:25, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The image depicting a sign on the Russian army-operated school in Tbilisi from which Georgian children were expelled.--Kober 14:33, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much :) I'm going to start the 1921 Soviet-Gerogian war article. I think it will come to a big surprise to those who still think that Georgians invited the Red Army to overthrow their legitimate government. --Kober 14:41, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Luis, check this out [[1]]. Sosomk 16:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Idea[edit]

Hey Luis, what do you think about splitting the Meskhetians article? Do you think it's a good idea? —Khoikhoi 03:02, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've explained myself at Talk:Meskhetians. Bascially, I'm proposing to turn the article into a disambig. page and split the stuff about the Meskhetian Turks into a new article. I guess I'll let Kober know as well. —Khoikhoi 03:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Politkovskaya[edit]

Hi Luis. I have searched all over the internet, but found nothing.:( --Kober 14:48, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I've just found a couple of comments by parliamentarians (Bokeria, Gabashvili, Kirkitadze, Berdzenishvili), but the info is only in Georgian.[2] --Kober 14:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Howdy, luis. I found Misha's comment on one Russian website. I added it to the Anna Politkovskaya page. --Kober 15:31, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's was a talk show on Georgian Mze TV yesterday. A number of deportees were interviewed. I could never imagine that they would have gone through such humiliation.--Kober 05:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

St Nino[edit]

Hi Luis. You might wish to check St. Nino and the beginnings of the Georgian church by James Dannenberg, M.A. Theology, York St John University, England. I accidentally found this article today. Cheers, Kober 19:07, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. My new article Treaty of Moscow (1920).

Armenia[edit]

Luis, can you please comment on Talk:Armenia. Your opinion would be most appreciated. Thanks.--Eupator 20:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:[edit]

Well, Luis. I have not read Suny cover to cover. Judging from the chapters I’ve looked through, he seems to be not always impartial but I still think he is a good scholar. Some Georgians accuse him of having pro-Armenian bias on a number of controversial issues because Suny is American-Armenian. On the other hand, as far as I know Armenians don’t like Suny for some of his works.

As for the UN resolution, I think it’s a failure. I don’t know why the West is so reluctant to overtly support Georgia and why Saakashvili is hesitating to withdraw from the CIS which is so despised in Georgia? We’re supposed to have severe winter due to blockade, but I’m against any concessions to Moscow. --Kober 17:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I'm online right now.--Kober 17:34, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Suny is considered one of the most anti-Armenian scholars out there within Armenia. James Russel is also among the most hated.--Eupator 15:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Administrator[edit]

No, I don't have any ambitions to become a Wikipedia administrator, right now anyway. -- Clevelander 19:56, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Serious problems with image uploads[edit]

We have recently recieved complaints from the copyright holders of several images you've uploaded. When reviewing you upload contributions, many others were found that you tagged improperly or claimed as being your own when you found them off the internet. If you do not immediately stop uploading copyrighted material, you will be blocked. Shell babelfish 09:33, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ldingley :-) I have questions about the images that you have uploaded to Wikipedia. For example, you have tagged images as being from your collection. "Copyright©2004 Luis Dingley Source: Dingley Image Collection" with this tag. {{CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat|credit is given and copyright is attributed.}} and the statement "This photo is from my collection and transfering it to Wikipedia." Where did you find these images that you put in your collection and then transfered to Wikipedia?
Ldingley, also I am not sure about using Parliament of Georgia website as a source claiming PD. [3] I question if this a valid at least the way the lic is written. Can you show me where Georgian copyright law says this is a valid PD claim?
So far I've just listed several images for deletion but there are many more which I plan to list soon so your prompt attentions is needed to resolve this matter to make sure images are not needlessly deleted. FloNight 12:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I have a problem with the explanation for your image problems. Several of the images that have been removed did not come off a reputable site, such as Getty Images, but were taken from people's homepages hosted in out of the way places like tripod or geocities. One of the people who contacted us about the copyright violation was able to photograph his original photographs and send those over - his images were put on the web in 2005, more than a year before you uploaded them here. So I'm at a loss. I would like to be able to work this out, but we seem to have seriously conflicting stories.
For instance, today you uploaded Image:72100787.jpg. I reviewed your source page and I'm wondering where you saw copyright information that made you decide that the image had been released from all copyright provided you give your source? Shell babelfish 21:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
One example is Image:Georgian kidssvanetia.jpg and Image:Georgian kids.jpg. The first image you claimed the source as trekearth.com and the second identical image you claimed was from your personal collection. The image, in fact, comes from http://svanetitour.tripod.com/ and has been on the web since 2005 at that location. Some of the other images I deleted came from news agencies, which you also claimed as being "in your collection". Third, that particular map may have been copied from a book (I'll have more details as soon as I verify my source is correct) and does not appear to have any connection with a Dr. Andrew Anderson. I'm sure I'll find more examples as I continue to review your contributions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shell Kinney (talkcontribs)
So now your claim is that you were friends with the copyright owner of the above referenced photograph of children? Can you explain why you attributed it to the wrong photographer in one upload and in another failed to attribute anyone and claimed you owned the copyright? I have sent an email back to Mr. Jobava in the hopes that he can straighten this out one way or the other about that particular image and one other of his that you also uploaded. Please take some time to review our image upload procedures and image tagging policies. It is very important when you release work already published on the internet or elsewhere that you provide a clear statement of license to permissions at wikimedia dot org - we appreciate the addition of new images, but still have to take complaints of copyright violation very seriously.
Another important Wikipedia policy is to try to avoid personal attacks and being incivil to others. The edit summary "I smell a rat" is a euphemism - it means that something about the situation seems odd or doesn't sound right - this was not me calling you a rat. Also, I did not intentionally leave an unsigned note on your talk page, as you can see, I copied the note 3 places since you are carrying on the discourse in multiple locations. Unfortunately when I copied it here, I missed the last line which included the tildes for my signature. Please try to assume good faith of others - don't presume malice of editors where there is none. Shell babelfish 03:18, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've spoken with Mr. Jobava who adamently denies knowing you or having given you any kind of permission to use the photographs you uploaded from his websites. I hope that you'll be more careful in the future to avoid uploading copyrighted images; further violations on your part may result in blocks. Shell babelfish 08:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
