Dear LouisDesaix, thankyou for your interest at the above article. I feel the changes you wish to make to the article's lead oversimplify quite a complex issue and I'd appreciate discussing them on the talk page before any further changes are made.

- I see you've reverted me without discussing it at all. My problems are as follows: 1) You have removed the date 2) you have removed mention of the French Revolutionary Wars, a very important part of the article's background. 3) There is a fairly severe logcal inconsistancy in what you have said. You jump from the French assisting the UI to it being a blow to British prestige without explaining what kind of assistance was to be provided 4) You have inserted the word "possibly", which is not what the source quoted lower in the article states.
