Ernie Terrell

Hello.
You reverted my editing.
In Ernie Terrell#Professional career, "In his early career, Terrell defeated some good contenders, including Cleveland Williams (Terrell won the rematch by decision after losing to Williams in their first fight by knockout), Zora Folley, and future Light Heavyweight champion Bob Foster. But he's best remembered for his challenge to World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali, on February 6, 1967—a bout in which he was badly beaten.

Ali was scheduled to fight WBA champion Ernie Terrell (the WBA stripped Ali of his title after his agreement to fight a rematch with Liston) on March 29, but Terrell backed out and Ali won a 15-round decision against substitute opponent George Chuvalo."
Predecessor is Muhammad Ali.

HELP

Please can you warn this guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Tegbo to stophis contribs.. he keeps adding numbers at the side of boxers records for some weird reason even tho after every win its numbered lol most frustrating is he doesn't finish them Jessie magdelano was fixed but Moises Flores and Ricardo Lopez are still ruined GanjaCaliphate (talk) 16:48, 12 March 2017‎ (UTC)

No check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moises_Flores / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricardo_L%C3%B3pez_(boxer) // If you scroll down to record and see what he has done, every other boxers wiki is the same but he is changing certain ons but not fully, leaving them disjointed and out of place..
Most/ALL have example /
15-0 (insert name) etc
BUT HE FOR SOME REASON IS DOING
25 25-0 (insert name) etc
There is no point making new boxes/spaces to number when the number is made eveytime after a fight and it must be timeworthy because he gives up lmao GanjaCaliphate (talk) 20:28, 12 March 2017‎ (UTC)

Hi, I see you having difficulty wordking the lead section on Tony Bellew. I don't think it needs mentioning. It's not mentioned in Vitali's lead or Mayweather. Just keep it at the bottom of the page, on the champions table. --Mahussain06 (talk) 07:16, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Ali Raymi Conspiracy Theory

Great job on the article, did a little bit digging back in 2015 & decided I don't want to get involved further more. Ali Raymi was #6 ranked light flyweight in April 2015 ranking, then he was dropped to number 11 after his death. I tried to contact a person who has knowledge about this issue (he claimed Raymi bribed WBC, WBA & WBO), promised to show me solid proof of the bribery but he was derailed by big personal problems, got of the grid & I never heard of him again.

As of facts, these are actual facts, we can investigate them, but we can't deny that they are facts, pretty much like every conspiracy theory. Deepestate (talk) 00:44, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Michele di Rocco

Hi Mac,

The section at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Quotations, in the first paragraph of Original Wording, "If there is a significant error in the original statement, use [sic] or the template [sic] to show that the error was not made by Wikipedia. However, trivial spelling and typographic errors should simply be corrected without comment..."

My opinion is that most typos, including this one, are insignificant, so "sic" wasn't worth adding. Either way, WP shouldn't be propagating mistakes.

Ira

Ira Leviton (talk) 01:48, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

That is a very good question to ask, and I hadn't thought of asking. (Can you get them to cc me or forward the answer?)
By the way, I see you're on Wikiproject Albums - I make sure to double-check songs titles in databases because there's always a possibility that they're misspelled intentionally. At least it's easier to check song and movie titles than some other art forms - I just leave those alone because there's sometimes no way to know.
Ira
Ira Leviton (talk) 02:12, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
I put my two cents into the discussion yesterday, and accordingly reverted the word back to 'decison' using the 'sic|hide=y|reason=x' template. I think your reasoning is better than mine for an encyclopedia. Anybody who cares enough to try to correct the spelling error can see that in the code and will then know that the error is in the source, and isn't a Wikipedia editor's fault. I'll use this method going forward, and take my hat off to you.

Lineal Champs

Yeah, I'm usually not all that interested in editing Wikipedia, so apologies for my lack of form. Your message alerts me to the importance of using an "edit summary." I edited that page after no one responded to something I posted in "Talk" a couple days ago. Anyway, am I wrong in thinking that the only source for lineal champs is TBRB? Or is this just a completely subjective category? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theazor99 (talkcontribs) 01:50, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Ha--if this is an edit war, I surrender. I just assumed that when I filled in an "edit summary" everything would be clear and the world of Wikipedia would be thankful that I corrected misinformation :-). I realize the lineal championship is a "mythical title," but I thought TBRB was the source for determining who gets it. To open it to subjective reasoning and "consensus opinion" (without being able to cite consensus opinion in any way) seems to invite the Wikipedia editor to become the authoritative source for awarding it, and that seems off to me. And for what it's worth, TBRB explains their rationale on their "Feedback" page. They just stripped Alvarez about a week ago when he said in a press conference "I am not a middleweight anymore." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theazor99 (talkcontribs) 02:17, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Wiki rules state it's okay to provide links if "The linked content is controlled by the subject". While it says no to social networks, that seems to imply it means fansites, etc? Lineal title

Hey dude if you can please check out the look of Golovkin and Alverez "professional record" and tell me if im right, Alverez only holds the Ring title and ALOT of people seem to not know that.. people keep changing Lineal to be there too but tbrb haven't said anything on this? I know "the man who beat's the man" mean's it eventually will be awarded to the winner whether that's announced before or after the fight but i need help keeping the trolls away or if im even right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Famalambreezy (talkcontribs) 21:15, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Claressa Shields

On a unrelated note i apologise profusely for you having to clean up the overlinks after me lmao my bad, now something that bothers me is how Claressa Shields record is on her wiki.. Katie Taylor is 5-0, Nicola Adams is 1-0, Marlen Esparza is 2-0 etc.. This is not only the "new pros" but also non title holders.. title holders in the womens games also have legit pro records. Now what annoys me is that Claressa Shields has a 2-0 record and "Apparently" a 78-1 amateur record that 1 guy seems hellbent on keeping overall on her wikipedia. maybe he is just a determined american who doesn't understand the concept of boxing wikipedia records and seems butthurt anyone dare challenge to change his edit lol im not the only person to attempt to put it straight. he says it is an "Overall" record which is fair enough but like the mens he can surly put this in the "early life" / Amateur section.. ALSO his "referance/links" clearly state "First amateur loss frustrates Flint boxer Claressa Shields, she expected a victory." and "Flint's Claressa Shields wins easily in pro boxing debut in Las Vegas". which is astounding he can stick to this 80-1 record.. any thoughts? Regarding your April 21, edit to the Chris Benoit article, it I removed the diminutive "Chris" from his name per: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies/2017 archive#RfC: Clarification and/or change in how common hypocorisms (diminutives) are handled on first use of name. It's not needed as it's just short for Christopher, and the articles name is Chris, thus, it's not needed as it's clear. (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 02:01, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Good to know.. although admittedly I've grown attached to those diminutives—I just find them fun from a formatting standpoint, and they look 'right' to me for whatever reason. ;-)  I'll be a bit sad to see them phased out, but no have problem with the RfC. What I'll do in future is not add them to articles where they're not present; if they are present, I will continue to apply MOS:LEADALT wherever possible (namely "The quotation marks are not put in bold.") Mac Dreamstate (talk) 02:29, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Well, shame on you. :P lol jk. I never understood the point of diminutives in the lead, I mean, it's kinda like, "duh!, that's what the articles name is." The first time I saw someone say anything about diminutives was because of an article named Dave Smith, and the lead (lede, which ever) read "David "Dave" Smith". Literally the definition of redundant and not needed. lol (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 22:33, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

About newspapers titles

Hi, I'm writing here for a doubt concerning newspapers titles: for example in this should I translate in English (being en.wiki the Wikipedia which I edit) or the Italian one is right ? In the case I linked, p.e, the title would become "Tyson - Tucker World punches in Las Vegas". Thank you ! --Sean Ago (talk) 11:00, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Boxing

What I meant by "hilarious" was your citation of proper boxing format - which you yourself decided on recently, based on the history there. That's a bit silly, as the 'rule' never applied before. It's a "Notes" section. I think appropriate notes surrounding the bout apply, not necessarily ones limited to titles. That doesn't mean let's go overboard, keep it simple, of course. -- Erroneuz1 (talk) 23:57, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

Margaret Court

Macmillan and Oxford English Dictonaries allow for the word "retired" to apply to a sports player who has ceased to play the sport, without also meaning that the person has retired from all professions. So in my opinion, the previous version of the sentence you changed was fine and clear to readers, especially in the context of the next sentence about Court currently being a minister. What do you think? Hi from a fellow editor who loves good writing! Soniamaddox (talk) 07:17, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply! I understand your campaign to preserve usage in a changing world! I am a bit amused that "retired/former" is a specific bugbear of yours. I have my own. Like the word "literally" – I cannot abide by its changed usage ;) Soniamaddox (talk) 00:29, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Mike Tyson

I read your source. Per your reference, are you claiming he did 'not' convert to Islam, or that his Muslim name isn't Malik Abdul Aziz? And how can we be sure this particular account is completely accurate? DA1 (talk) 18:44, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

I'm very glad to hear you're open to discussion. Personally, I think it would have been very useful if there was a 'primary source' with him actively noting that his Muslim name is (or isn't) "Malik Abdul Aziz", since there are a lot of secondary sources that claim that to be his name (we can't just put all our weight on that one source). But interesting you do note that it was his lawyer who made the initial denial; because I have an article from 1993 (prior to his release) where the quote actually comes from:
http://www.nytimes.com/1993/04/02/sports/sports-people-boxing-tyson-s-name-is-still-mike-tyson.html
"Yes, Tyson is attending classes on Islam -- mixed with math instruction and other subjects -- but he's still Mike Tyson, his lawyer said.
"He's not changing his name and not converting," said the attorney, ALAN DERSHOWITZ , who said he spoke to Tyson yesterday afternoon. "Someone is circulating false stories. He told me, 'When my Islamic teacher comes to me, I talk about Islam; when you come to me, we sometimes talk about the Jewish faith.' "
The lawyer claims that he not only isn't changing his name but that he isn't converting either. This latter fact, we know to be false. Since as you noted, he's admitted being a Muslim, there's photos of him praying, and he made pilgrimage to Mecca in 2010. I think this facet taken as a whole, puts doubt on the source as unreliable tbh. –DA1 (talk) 19:09, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
I think that's a good source you have there. I managed to find an NTV news report (and accompanying article) in Russian covering that story. In the video, he's formally introduced as "Malik Abdul Aziz" to the crowd. I don't think the fast-forward works but watch it till the 22 second mark for the footage. http://www.ntv.ru/video/73193/DA1 (talk) 14:37, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Money Belt

According to the WBC the major boxing promotion that is a legitimate Title they are fighting for. So you might wanna do your research into it before making a decision on which titles are legit or not look into it because according to them. This is a sanctioned Title fight JMichael22 (talk) 14:41, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

In this article it will explain it to you The WBC Money Belt JMichael22 (talk) 14:42, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Okay now your not making any sense I don't see anywhere in those sections about not putting the Money Belt in there. it a legit Title created and promoted by the WBC. now your trying to portray this decision as if you have the final say about the matter. That is not what Wikipedia is about. JMichael22 (talk) 14:53, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

As I've asked already "WHY" are these decisions made what makes one Title okay but not the other, that is the answer I'm chasing here JMichael22 (talk) 15:04, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Mashantucket

You said "Mashantucket is in the town of Ledyard; same as Brooklyn is in NYC, etc. See" according to the this source Official Foxwoods Resort Casino Website they have the location of the Foxwoods Resort Casino and no where on the location does it say Ledyard as the location of the venue. it clearly shows a map of the location and Ledyard is not where it is located. Also I wanna point out one last thing in other fighters record when they fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY then it shouldn't be that way according to you. if your statement above (Mashantucket is in the town of Ledyard; same as Brooklyn is in NYC) made sense. that means your saying Mashantucket is within Ledyard so you place Ledyard as the location of the Venue then you say Brooklyn is the same as NYC so why wouldn't you put New York City as the location of the venue instead of Brooklyn for the Barclays Center. Right there your reasoning falls flat I provided a legitimate source of the address and location of the Foxwoods from its official website at this point I find no more reason for this edit war.
