Result of Armenia strawpoll[edit]

Thanks for your comments on the Armenia talkpage. I will choose not to take the phrase insane illogicacy personally, as per the policy of assuming good faith. The reason I have proposed this compromise is because, as User:Caligvla's official advocate (see AMA, Association of Members' Advocates), I am trying to find a reasonable compromise between the two points of view on this issue. I personally have no view about the issue of Armenia; I'm only trying to do my job as an advocate by generating a constructive consensus, as per Wikipedia policy. At the moment, it seems there are equally strong sources/references on both sides (see my talkpage and also Talk:Armenia). If you would like to suggest a compromise that seems more reasonable to you, please do so on my talk page. Walton monarchist89 12:15, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you mean the quotes in the article? ok I will try. bye for today. thanks for decent talkneurobio 03:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfC opening on Armenia[edit]

Given the complete deadlock on this issue, and the failure of the strawpoll, I think the time has come to take the dispute-resolution process to the next level by opening a request for comment. This will open the debate up to the whole Wikipedia community, and hopefully generate, if not consensus, then at least a majority view. I will invite all users involved in this issue to contribute to the RfC, which can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/History and geography. I realise that you may now be a bit bored with having to explain your views again and again on different pages, but as an advocate I think this is the only way to finally end this dispute. Strawpoll[edit]

NB This poll has now closed, it being Friday 10th November and about 10.30am where I live. The numbers are as follows:

As such, no mandate has appeared for making the requested changes to the article. As previously advertised, Caligvla and I are taking a break from this dispute for a week. After this, the case may be taken to the mediation cabal, although I hope to avoid this eventuality. Walton monarchist89 10:38, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Armenian COA.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Armenian COA.jpg. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. For a list of copyright tags that are in current use, see the "Public domain", "Free license", and "Fair use" sections of Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

License tagging for Image:SovietArmenian flag.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SovietArmenian flag.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thanks for adding references to Battle of Berlin[edit]

I do not like to cause other contributors work, but when I saw the figure of 3,300 aircraft for the German side, I suspected that something was very wrong and I started to distrust all figures. The German article mentions >100 aircraft for the German side which sounds far more realistic. Andries 19:20, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Armenian SSR flag[edit]

How's this version?:

Kindest regards, Clevelander 19:18, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was the closest thing I could find to the final version of the COA in decent quality. What I never took much care in noticing was how the Soviet COAs evolved overtime. -- Clevelander 19:34, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I redid the COA a bit and fixed the colors, etc. What do you think? Not as big as your's, but still in better quality:
BTW, I meant to apologize for the way I acted towards you in regard to the Soviet Armenian imagery on the WikiProject Armenia talk page. All Armenians should be united and I shouldn't have defended the inaccuracies of the earlier Soviet symbols. All the best, Clevelander 02:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Bagramyan.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bagramyan.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Khojaly Massacre[edit]

Hey i see the death toll on this is not accurate since its from an Azerbaijan source there must be others time magazine states only 200 and says Azerbaijan claims 1,000+, can you help me out on this? any bold references elsewhere?

"So far, some 200 dead Azerbaijanis, many of them mutilated, have been transported out of the town tucked inside the Armenian-dominated enclave of Nagorno- Karabakh for burial in neighboring Azerbaijan. The total number of dead -- the Azerbaijanis claim 1,324 civilians were slaughtered, most of them women and children -- is unknown. But the facile explanation offered by the attacking Armenians, who insist that no innocents were deliberately killed, is hardly convincing." Nareklm 22:25, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yasilova incident - new category?[edit]

I like the category you added to this,"non war armed confrontations". But I still think it is not ideal, since all the other articles are about domestic events like cowboy battles, and the parent category is crime. I think there should be a new category for these war related incidents - there must be many such events between countries. Any thoughts on what the category could be called (maybe "war related international incidents"?) and where to fit it in the hierarchy of history, war etc to make it useful?Obina 11:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sassuntsi-Davit Tank Division[edit]

Hey, great work on changing the formation size to regiment - I've been going through David Glantz's books trying to figure out which WW 2 Soviet tank division was ethnic Armenian!! Do you think it is the 119th Regiment as listed further down the paragraph? Best regards Buckshot06 18:16, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try and get hold of David Glantz, Colossus Reborn out of a library or something; it's got a specific section on nationalities units of the Red Army 41-45, and mentions all the divisions you list: http://www.amazon.com/Colossus-Reborn-1941-1943-Modern-Studies/dp/0700613536

Nothing under separate tank regiments though specifically for identification of this unit. I do not believe the Sassuntsi-Davit unit was part of a division, as Glantz describes separate regiments of approximately that composition.

Actually, thinking about it, this was a unit of 22 tanks - sounds like two companies of 10 tanks each, dep cdr's tank, and commander's tank. It's too small to be a full regiment. And isn't 'polk' the Russian for regiment, as in tankovy polk or some such? I think this unit was a separate tank battalion, because I know ~divizionya was sometimes used as a alternate name for battalion sized units.

If you're happy I'll make that change to separate tank battalion at some point. Buckshot06 21:29, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've actually had some email discussions with David Glantz, so I might bounce it off him. Be good to get a definitive answer. Buckshot06 03:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He confirms it is a regiment; see the talk page of the article for the info from Boevoi sostav Sovetskoi armii [Combat composition of the Soviet Army] 44/45 volumes. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Buckshot06 (talkcontribs) 21:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Regarding Armenian genocide[edit]

I saw your sentences: When German, US, French, British, Russian, Austrian and Swedish archives all document deliberate provocations to anger Armenians and subsequent massacres to "quell" "uprisings" then ywe all that Ottoman documents aren't worth ____ :) None of your statements are ever backed up on these imaginary uprisings and it only makes sense that you are calling out the "bias" card when you cannot even prove your own words.

German, US, French, British, Russian, Austrian and Swedish are christian and Ottoman muslim..That is why their archive must be full of lie. Yes provacation !!!!!!!!!!!! why dont you tell me 500.000 turks killed by Armenians??????.. Stepanakert[edit]

Adil brought up some interesting points at Talk:Stepanakert#Vararakn. If you have the entire article of S.Mkrtchyan, would you be able to post it? Thanks, Khoikhoi 01:02, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I also noticed that Adil keeps changing the sentence to "the entire local Azerbaijani population has fled the city during the Nagorno-Karabakh war", while the Armenian editors seem to prefer the sentence "most of the local Azerbaijani population has fled the city". Which one is correct? How many Azeris live in Stepanakert today? Khoikhoi 01:12, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bagramyan's commands[edit]

Putting those units under the "commands" field in the infobox isn't really a good idea. Bagramyan didn't actually command them directly; they were part of the formations (e.g. the 11th Guards Army & the 1st Baltic Front) that he did command, but they had their own commanders below him. The infobox really isn't meant to show that sort of hierarchical relationship; it'd be like saying that Zhukov or Stalin commanded them simply because they were in overall control of the war.

Frankly, I'm not convinced that it's worthwhile to indicate these units other than in the text where they're already mentioned. Bagramyan doesn't appear to have had a substantially different relationship with them than he had with the many other divisions that were part of the formation he commanded; singling them out doesn't seem particularly justified here. Kirill Lokshin 21:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You could, in theory, use {{command structure}}, which is designed to show that sort of thing; but then, to be accurate, you'd probably have to show all of the units in the front rather than just those three, which would probably be too complex for this article. (You might be able to get away with moving that auxiliary box down to the section dealing with the front, though, which would make it more reasonable space-wise.) Kirill Lokshin 22:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, fair enough. It's a great article, in any case. :-) Kirill Lokshin 22:37, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Funny[edit]

Do you think this should be added? to the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

"Azeri and Russian so-called batallion is being crushed by Armenian fedayis in Artsakh (Karabakh). In panic, frightened, crying and running away leaving dead. Russian journalist asks one soldier "Why are they running? They are supposed to be soldiers!" and keeps asking the soldiers "Why are you crying?". Azeri general admits that there were twice as many Azeris than Armenians. He shouts and slaps his soldiers for running away and not obeying his commands. The true face of Azeri heromen."

Ronald Reagan Featured Article Candidate[edit]

Hi. Thank You for your comments. I really do not think the David Stockman thing is worth mentioning, because I don't know of a good and reliable source to cite it by. If you still want it in there, drop me a line. Happyme22 17:59, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank You for your quick response. David Stockman was fired by Ronald Reagan, therefore he didn't like him after that (I'm sure you know that). Mrs. Nancy Reagan, the President's wife, describes in her memoirs that she (and many other people) felt that Stockman was trying to get back at President Reagan for firing him. Personally, I think that this is one of those atempts. I'll check out the page you gave me, and I'll get back to you with my final analysis. Again, thank you so much for your comments, and a quick response. -- Happyme22 18:55, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah- I think it's untrue (but I don't know that). Do you still think that it should be in the article? I'll try something if you want, but please get back to me. Thanks, Happyme22 18:57, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing- I've never nominated an article before. How is an article confirmed as a featured article? Happyme22 18:59, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to bother you (again), but when is the concensus reached on the article nominating? I've had Reagan's article on the Featured Article Candidate List for about a week. Is that normal? Happyme22 19:38, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot Happyme22 20:10, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added the David Stockman thing to the Ronald Reagan article in the "Reaganomics and the Economy" section. Tell me what you think. If you are happy with it, and if you wish, I would really apreciate it if you changed your position from "Slight Oppose" to "Comment" or even "Support" on the Reagan Featured Article talk page. It would be much appreciated if you feel that way, and if you do that. I Thank You for all of your help. It's really appreciated by me, and all of the editors of Ronald Reagan. Thanks, Happyme22 20:29, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really think that the test part is necesary, but I included it (someone might delete it later). What do you think now, and would you now consider changing your FAC vote from "Slight Object" to "Comment" or better, "Support?" Happyme22 21:54, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
