Editing under the influence

It is believed that this user may be editing Wikipedia under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or herbs. Please refer to [1] for evidence.

Maybe it's best for you to take a short break. You wouldn't want to be held responsible for any crazy drug-influenced edits. --TantalumTelluride 02:06, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my user page

thanks a lot for reverting vandalism on my user page. I didn't even know about it until I happened to be browsing your contributions page when I heard you were going on Wikibreak. Your reversion

Hey there, thought I might comment on this reversion. While I totally respect that it was a pretty bogus comment - I think it'd be a better idea to reply to the comment, rather than reverting it. It gives a bad image of Wikipedia if the user believes that one cannot sensibly make a complaint about an admin. Just a thought. Werdna648T/C\@ 04:47, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam?

I am undergoing an Rfc and under Rfc rules I am suppose to inform users involved with the dispute about the Rfc to get their comments (See the first bullet). I think that is the "spam" you are referring to.--Jersey Devil 05:06, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK so that Icelandic Empire picture shouldn't of been there, but what's with that! If there unsourced, you could've just asked me to add their source. What about the userboxes, what was wrong with them, someone's got to make them eventually. Plus, they were just mentioning that I was part of certain WikiProjects! I can't believe it. Thanx a lot. Admin seeking opinion

Help. I blocked a username Tetrahydrocannabinol as inapropriate which I believe it is. Got an indignant demanding email from the blocked user stating he likes the chemical and that it is not a name in violation of wikipedia policy and will take it to as many admins as he has to. Very indignant. Is the name in violation because it is an illegal substance at least in US where I am? This hasn't come up before and I saw on recent changes that you are in and more experienced than I am as an admin and am asking you. I think I am right but need advice. Thanks--Dakota ~ ° 07:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I will unblock him and certainly remind him of your advice. He said he likes the chemical I suppose that will be the first place he will go. Thank you again.--Dakota ~ ° 07:45, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ABC Radio FNQ Link

Just wondering why did you delete the link to the ABC radio station. I notice that they have dropped the streaming audio but there is a lot of info there for folks from outside Australia - esp those who might have friends & relos on holiday there Albatross2147 10:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts

I think I am going to unblock him and let someone else deal with his nonsense. I'm going to wash my hands of him.--MONGO 10:47, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NSLE, how about you just unblock and recommend arbcom to him...even give him the links...finally put an end to this nonsense.--MONGO 11:18, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.

Thank you for unblocking me NSLE.However as to referring the matter to WP:RFAR,I fear that might worsen the already strained relationship I have with MONGO.I do not want to make an enemy with of the latter-I just want to get back to editing. However if you still feel that it would be best if the matter was referred to WP:RFAR please let me know and I will follow your advice. Thanks once again for your efforts in sorting this issue out.User:Prasi90 11:31, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question?

Greetings, sorry to have to write you but this revert does not appear very appropriate. Not being familiar with admin rights... would such a revert ordinarily be condoned? Also, I am now aware of your intention to file a RFAR. Netscott 11:55, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking of TydeNet and his IP

Hello,

I noticed you blocked a user on the Cyclone Larry talk page. While I certainly didn't agree with his abuse, I believe you did the wrong thing in blocking him, as the guy really seemed to have a decent argument and only wanted to get his views across.

Anyway, there's three of us who think it should be Category 4 now; I think it'd be good to hear your thoughts and see if you have anything respectable to say on the matter. Best wishes. PH34R 06:17, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you reverted my edits. I don't think I understand your reasoning for this. Please don't abuse your administration rights. Best wishes. PH34R 06:19, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. However this doesn't account for you reverting my edits. You seem to be unfairly showing favourtism to the Category 3 side of the argument. Please note I am a Meteorologist (well, 1 year to go =)) and I, together with 2 other users, genuinely believe this to be a Category 4 Cyclone. If we encounter no respectable counter argument within the next 2 hours I will be changing the Category on the main page. Best wishes. PH34R 06:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see you're now reverting my edits on your talk page. Why is this? You're not being responsible here. All the best, PH34R 06:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another admin has now taken the liberty of making it Category 4. Your help is no longer required. All the best, PH34R 06:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Larry

Your blocking was inappropriate. I first commented on the Talk Page before making the change, and most people on the talk page agree that Category 4 is correct anyway. The statistics available from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology with local measuring equipment are the most credible source for data, and according to that data, the cyclone was Category 4 on the SS scale. No alternative official source has been indicated to lend validity to the Category 3 assertion. I also cited why I removed the inappropriate reference, as per Wikipedia policy ("self-published books, personal websites, and blogs are largely not acceptable as sources"). The only cited reference to Category 3 is from a blog. I indicated in my change that if the change be reverted, a valid verifiable source for stating Category 3 be included. Blocking users because they disagree with you, though they have acted in accord with policy is an abuse of adminstrator priveleges.--Jeffro77 08:56, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. I understand the Wunderground site has been cited for cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean based on measurements using equipment in the Atlantic. While this may make it a suitable source for cyclones in that area, it does not automatically make it a suitable source for cyclones in the South Pacific, as evidenced by the fact that the specific Wunderground blog reference for Cyclone Larry indicates the incorrect wind speeds and pressure details for Cyclone Larry, that are not consistent with the local Australian Bureau of Meteorology that has local equipment on site, and is therefore a much more favourable source for the area. In any case, your block was antagonistic and, in principle, was inconsistent with the Verifiability and Be Bold. In view of the fact that the data for stating Category 3 is indeed inaccurate, it still should not be in the article, and is only because of bullying that I am not reverting it.--Jeffro77 09:17, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi NSLE, and thank you for taking time to vote on my RfA. I understand that my last 6000+ edits were not sufficient to convince you that edits like some of my early ones would never be repeated again, but I sincerely hope that at some point I would be able to convince you of my transformation. Looking forward to working with you in future. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 03:23, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey NSLE, I prepared my questions in advance, including yours. Would you like to see them? --Khoikhoi 04:41, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

My RfA recently closed and it was a success, passing at 84-02-00. I would like to thank you for your support. Normally I would extend a hand in regards to any help I could offer, but seeing as your an admin as well, any help from me would probably be minimal. Nonetheless, if something does come up and you would like another opinion, please by all means, grab a Pepsi and stop by my talk page. Thanks again. Pepsidrinka 17:54, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Sorry about the stress

I'm sorry to hear you're stressed out...don't let the trolls get to you. Here's a self-hypnosis thing to try (it works for me):

Close your eyes for 10 seconds. Picture your mind in a dark, quiet space. Each time you breathe in, it cools, and becomes calm. You are in control of the state of your mind.

I hope it helps....good luck ;)--The ikiroid (talk/parler/hablar/paroli/说/話) 01:27, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trolls

Hey there, I see your hands are full due to trolls. Well so are mine. So I suggest we cooperate in dealing with them which would benefict us both. I for one am overwhelmed with the number of trolls I deal with to the point of loosing my objectivity. I believe you may be suffering from the same problem.

Here is what I propose. I'll collect evidence against people pestering you and you do te same for me.

Since I have no idea who you are, I do not believe there is a conflict of interest.

--Cool CatTalk|@ 21:27, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NSLE, I just went over 3RR. I lost count. You're an admin active right now, so I'm reporting for the tongue-lashing or the block or whatever.

We have a brand-new user named RedCrescent who believes that he has a direct line to Allah. He is editing the Zakir Naik article to say that Zakir Naik's beliefs are not orthodox and are contrary to the Qur'an and Sunnah. I keep pointing out that WP cannot make religious judgments and he keeps coming up with new ways to say that Zakir Naik's beliefs are WRONG.

Punish me if you must, but please throw in a few reverts at Zakir Naik. Zora 07:38, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the block of RedCrescent, I think you should set that one to 6 hours as well. 3RR block lengths should in principle be equal when there are two involved, even if it was one who fessed up and reported it. Sjakkalle (Check!) 09:42, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me. this notes that another admin may choose to lighten/remove a block for accepting responsibility for a 3RR vio. In my view this would similarly apply to if someone accepted they did it and asked to be blocked, hence I handed down a lighter block. If you strongly feel it should be 6 hours each, feel free to change the block length. NSLE (T+C) at 09:46 UTC (2006-03-28)

Well, particularily when dealing with new users it will be perceived as unfair if they are blocked for a period four times longer than for an established contributor. I have therefore shortened the block to six hours for RedCrescent as well. Sjakkalle (Check!) 09:51, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Your subpages

I hthought the What Wikipedia is not thing only applied for articles, not userpages. Because your name is original research to them, because you have no source. So, maybe I could get rid of the new words thing, but the rest should be fine on userpages. Icelandic Hurricane #12 12:09, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

unresolved questions

Dear NSLE, just prior to you going on wikibreak, I messaged you regarding, among other things, your deletion from your talk page of editors messgaes concerning your actions as an administrator. As you went on wikibreak, I left messages for you here and on my talk page and I emailed you about these. I was inclined to leave you alone as you were on wikibreak, however as you invited me to, and I saw that you were still editing, I thought it was fair to email. As yet you haven't replied. I don't know if this is because you've chosen not to or because you simply forgot, but I'm assuming good faith. Needless to say, I'm still concerned that you seem unwilling to discuss your actions as an administrator with other wikipedians. (Let's just say for now that I'm not so much concerned about the circumstances surrounding the particular blocks at 'Cyclone Larry' that led me to raise this with you in the first place). If there are circumstances that I'm unawre of or something that I've misunderstood, I'd be more than happy for you to explain them to me. I hope to recieve some sort of reply from you and that you're able to boost my confidence in your abilities as an administrator. Thanks. -- Adz|talk 07:53, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Hey, I need a favour

I need a favour, thi sis in part due to your faith (no offence, I hope). User talk:NSLE#Zakir Naik - a new Muslim editor has (apparently) been pushing POV at the Zakir Naik article, and whom I've just blocked for 3RR. I'd like to ask you if you could help me explain to him our NPOV and 3RR policies, as he may be more willing to listen to a Muslim editor. Cheers, NSLE (T+C) at 09:35 UTC (2006-03-28)

Addendum: I see that you've encountered this user before. Whether that complicates things or makes it easier... NSLE (T+C) at 09:36 UTC (2006-03-28)
Second addendum: RedCrescent has now accused me of misusing my powers. This smells a whole lot like what Resid would do. Since you (in my view) managed to amicably handle that situation, your help here would be appreciated (I understand the timezones). NSLE (T+C) at 09:43 UTC (2006-03-28)
By the way, I hope you don't feel offended that I never got back to you on this one. I didn't talk to RedCrescent about this issue, because he appeared to have stopped at the time I first read this and because I was/am already dealing with him in an issue at the Muhammad article. joturner 11:57, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
