Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button 
located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 02:22, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! It's been a very long while since I've edited in Wikipedia, so I'm a bit out of the habit. I am concerned that a number of direct quotations need quotations in the Sarah Stein article, as much is derived from Women and the Making of the Modern House by Alice Friedman. Friednman, in turn, states some blunt characterizations sourcing Harriet Levy, a contemporary of the Steins and a person who was on the outs with the Steins by the time of her writing. Given such circumstances the material that is derived from Levin should be leavened with non-involved researchers. I've got several of the source books but not the time right now.

When you say discuss with the other editors, do you mean in my own talk section, or in the discussion section that's related to the entry I've been working with? I'm guessing you mean the discussion section that's part of the Gertrude Stein entry. I'll post some observations there.

Sarah Stein[edit]
I'd like to write a biography for Sarah Stein, wife of Michael Stein, and sister-in-law of Gertrude and Leo Stein. It is difficult to find biographical information about her, but she was a substantial collector of Henri Matisse's artwork, and paintings from her original collection hang in museums world wide. She also was an instigator, with Hans Purrmann, of the Matisse art school in Paris in the early 1900's. Her life has drama and pathos, and she has a story that should be told.

Adoption[edit]
Happy to adopt. I have had a quick look at both articles. Two things, firstly on copyright. Things are pretty strict here about copyright, if in doubt it doesn't get used. you need to prove PD or the copyright holder has given permission. Secondly the Innocents Abroad has some excellent references and research however there is little textual content. It is not the thing to point to other locations in quite this way. Write in your own words based on research in other place and place in-line citations with the text to attribute the ideas. If there is related information on another site point to these in an "external links" section. Wikipedia is not a link farm. Look at other articles and take more of your lead from them. You need to do some of this quite quickly or you work ristks being removed complete by other editors. Just to let you know, someone created the Sarah Stein article; it's very short, and could use the work you've already done on your userpage. I've told the person who created it to contact you, because two people working on an article is always better than one (now if only I could get someone to help me out on the Zoya Phan article...). Thanks for letting me know about the Sarah Stein article. I've been out of touch with wiki, so I'm probably not doing this response quite right. I would say that I think the most significant thing that happened to Sarah Stein was the theft of her Matisse paintings from the Gurlitt Gallery in Berlin on the eve of WWI. The paintings that she lent to to the show, at the Gurlitt now mostly are in the Statens Museum, after having been in some a Dutch warehouse I think. It's a rich story. There are some leads though. Jack Flan has studied this. Also, the first director of the New York Museum of Modern Art has a list of the paintings that were lost, in the back of his major catalogue of Matisse's work. J. Alfred Barr.
I see that someone put up a Gurlitt entry and he seems to have made a business out of purloining paintings.
Anyhow, on my home page, I link an article about how Sarah sort of lost her will to do much of anything after those paintings were stolen. Matisse felt a deep grief, and he painted two portraits, one of Sarah and one of Michael (Sarah's husband) to try to fill the void.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
