Mariss Jansons[edit]

Regarding your edits to the article on Mariss Jansons:

1. Infobox: the Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music/Style guidelines discourages infoboxes; their use requires consensus on the discussion page;
1.1 country flags and other issues: according to MOS:ICON#Avoid flag icons in infoboxes, country flags are not to be used in infoboxes;
1.2 WP:OVERLINK discourages linking a country name like Latvia;
1.3 "Professor" is not an occupation;
1.4 WP:DASH demands that mdashes be used for year ranges, not hyphens;
1.5 foreign entities like the Oslo Philharmonic should be named as their English Wikipedia articles are named;
2. removal of requests for citation: do not remove these without addressing the issue;
3. unnecessary details: it is unnecessary and distracting to clutter the lead of an article with dates of birth and death for a person who has his own article;
4. I raised the question whether Jansons' grandfather belongs into the article's lead on the discussion page; please comment there.

I'm going to revert your edits from 16 August. Please don't reintroduce them without discussion on Jansons' discussion page. I also urge you use edit summaries. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:19, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I'm sorry about these things, but I am not well practiced about editing. I agree with some part of your opinion. But some of them need to be discussed. My opinions are below.

1. Although I am not sure about Jansons' grandfather, I think following sentence "His mother, the singer Iraida Jansons, who was Jewish, gave birth to him in hiding in Riga, Latvia, after her father and brother were killed in the Riga Ghetto. As a child, he first studied violin with his father." don't need any citation, because that is known to all as common sense. So I canceled this sentence's citation. As for Jansons' grandfather, I agree with you and retain this to discuss.
2. I insist to add the Infobox to this passage. And I corrected it as you asking for. You can change the information in this Infobox where you think it is wrong, but you'd better not delete it.

That's all. Sincerely best regards. --Riga Daugava (talk) 16:18, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
