Windy Hills

I have moved your addition Windy Hills to Louisville neighborhoods to a new category within the article, since it is not an official neighborhood, but a city within Jefferson county. Hopefully this doesn't seem like over-zealous defense of a pet article!

Oh, merger is overly complicated... from what I understand, the individual cities of Jefferson were not dissolved, they still have mayors/city councils, taxes, etc, at least as far as I know. The merger just seems to have mostly concerned unincorperated places within the county, like I think Valley Station for example. I could be wrong though. And of course Jefferson County has many incorporated cities.
My list deals with areas officially designated neighborhoods within the pre-merger city limits. Those designations were made pre-merger, and could change at some point, who knows? --W.marsh 06:07, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
That's a good point. Although, the neighborhoods listed are still the official neighborhoods, I don't know of any plans to change that because of the merger. I honestly hadn't considered mentioning subdivisions and other incorporated cities on the page, until your edit... call it an experiment right now, I suppose. --W.marsh 06:19, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Question about categories

Got your welcome message; thanks. I do have a question, which is perhaps answered somewhere in a FAQ but frankly I don't have the inclination to go rooting around to find. It's about categories: are categories added manually or automatically (or both)? And do you use the "category" whatever-you-call-it (tag?) in an article to assign that article to a category? Baseball on Wikicities

Hello Rogerd, Googie Man here and I want to ask you something as a fellow baseball fan on Wikipedia. Jimbo and Angela have made a new webstie called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done great work on Wikipedia and I was hoping you could help get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Please let me know what you think . Thanks! I've been looking for a tool like that for a while now, as a couple of talk pages I'm active on are just filled with commenters that just don't bother to sign. Hi there. In the TfD for this, you said we should keep it because we need a small template for long-term protection. But, as I said in the debate, we already have {{sprotected-small}}, which doesn't have the misleadingly titled name of the nominated template. Indeed, the notion of a semi-permanent semi-protect should not be enshrined in a template as there is no basis in policy for it. For George W. Please, my support for that candidate has nothing to do with his politics. Just like many members of my party in the Senate voted for Ruth Bader Ginsburg we look at the qualifications, not the politics. That is more than I can say for the demos. And by the way, what about our support for the PRC entering the WTO? They are a bunch of commies, aren't they? An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Template help

Hi rogerd, you welcomed me to Wikipedia and invited me to ask any questions, so here I am. I was trying to put together the category Category:Film stub templates last night, and all the film genre stub stemplates in it. The problem is that somehow regular film articles tagged with those templates are bleeding in to the new category. At first it was one, but now 12 hours later there quite a few. Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Broadway

I'm sure that you are correct in that most links to Broadway refer instead to Broadway theatre. However, it doesn't make very much sense to have "Broadway" redirect to "Broadway theatre." Broadway theatre is an entity that, while intricately interwoven with Broadway the street, is nevertheless distinct from that street. Also, the fact that most "Broadway"s have to be redirected to the theatre article in and of itself indicates that, as a place/street/etc., most references (if not errant Wikilinks) to "Broadway" are to the New York City street, which, naturally, is the seat of Broadway theatre. References to Broadway theatre should point to that article (which you yourself took care of); any references to simply "Broadway," however, should point to the NYC street, seeing as how it is very unlikely that the intended article would be that about Broadway in New South Wales, or Broadway in New Jersey. —Larry V (talk) 03:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

John Hostettler

The article was about Hostettler John Hostettler, and the Straw-Hostettler confrontation was big news at IU for several years. The City Clerk of Bloomington even suggested that I run against him. You should put back that whole section, as it provides the reader with a better understanding of how political activism can develop when a politician takes a radical stance. Otherwise, you are abusing your editorial power, and I ask that your edit be revised by a higher authority on Wikipedia.

Not advertising, not just an article about myself

Dear Rogerd, I have lodged a complaint against you in the Cabal for editing out my contributions to the John Hostettler and Alan Voorhees pages.

1. I was not writing an article about myself. I never changed the topic from John Hostettler--it was always about the conflict he and I had and the tens of thousands of people in Bloomington and the rest of the 8th District who disagreed with him. It was a completely verifiable story about how his educational non-program woke me up to law and politics and eventually how the 8th District was changed to remove Bloomington from it. You are trying to muffle the full magnitude of the situation and my role in it by your edits.

2. You are flat-out wrong to edit out my name from Alan Voorhees' page. I worked for him for 2 years, attended Council for Excellence leadership sessions with GS-14s and GS-15s (top federal civil servants), and he asked me (as his sole employee) to work on the Richmond County project. He paid for me to clerk for the local judge, and I met with the Virginia State Bar, Library of Virginia, Clerk of the Virginia Supreme Court, Library of Congress, Virginia Historical Society... and a number of very high-tech companies in Washington, D.C. and Seattle in support of his project. Need I really go on? I was his point man, and you think my name is not relevant to his wikipedia entry.

For some reason you have this bias, but I think you should drop your pretenses and simply put back what I wrote in both instances.

3. The fact that I created a so-called "vanity" entry which was later deleted is irrelevant. I was just getting used to Wikipedia and did not know how to create a User or talk page at that time, and if you looked carefully (I bet you didn't), I myself voted for deletion when I understood that I couldn't do that.

I see that you too have encountered this user on the Cynthia McKinney article. I must inform you that this user has been blocked before. In a recent incident he used profanity against another user. If you see his user contributions you will see that he often reverts articles that are not vandalism and says in the page history "Rv vandalism". The following are some examples. [2] [3] [4] [5]. In order to get enough votes to keep his articles from surviving afd's he even made his own Wikipedia:WikiProject Conspiracies Guild and if you see the talk page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Conspiracies Guild he lists all of his articles that have been nominated to be deleted. As previously mentioned, the user has been blocked before. He was apparently let to stay because of promised "good behavior", he has clearly broken that promise. This user deserves to be banned not just blocked, never in my experience on Wikipedia have I encountered a user who so disgracefully and willingly disobey's wikipedia policy. He even went to my talk page and basically taunted me with the fact that "wikipedia can't get rid of him" and he isn't afraid of another rfc or ArbCom. Again this user must be banned from wikipedia. Broadway Theatre

The theatre, by that name is very different from the theatre in general in NYC being referred to as Broadway theatre... There should be an article on this and the guidelines do provide for a red link that needs an article. There are other articles that refer to the theatre by that name which then get linked to the general topic Doc 01:49, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Red Adair and Hellfighters (film)

Greetings! Despite the artistic license of the film, it is based on Adair's life, however loosely. I bio-stubbed it because I'm trying to cut down the number of entries under generic "film-stubs", but for now I'll respect your edit and see what anyone else thinks. (BTW, you should see the stuff that gets into "Films based on the Bible" when all they have in common is that the title comes from a Bible verse. No Time for Sergeants

If you look at the uniforms in the film, and in the images in the article, they are clearly USAF uniforms. I remember that Sgt. King's, and Don Knott's character's stripes are the downward pointing AF stripes rather than the upward pointing Army stripes. Where did you get your information? --rogerd 13:15, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

The article I started covers the original Mac Hyman novel as well as the 1958 film and 1964 TV series (and someone else has now added the comic books). The novel was set in the WW II Army Air Corps as stated; the film and comics updated it to the USAF as you have noted. I'll try to add that clarification to the article at my next opportunity. I see, I have seen the film several time, but not read the book. That probably explains why the "Ben" character wanted to be transferred to the infantry. Once the services were split, that would have been unlikely, but transferring between branches of the Army would have been more likely. To be completely accurate, then I should say that the United States Army Air Corps ceased to exist on June 20, 1941 (prior to Pearl Harbor), to be replaced by the United States Army Air Forces until September 18, 1947 when the USAF was established. Thanks for the help with the engines! I've been poking at this for weeks, got a lot of W* V* and I* fixed. Now, if only the Interstate folks would stop thinking that somehow they are more important (those are what's left now that the I* links have been diminished). Of course, more links keep popping up all the time! My plan was to get all the V* links handled, and then move the disambiguation pages back to the abbreviations, to help automated processing in the future.

No problem. I stumbled into it when looking at some of the auto racing pages. By the way, by removing the {{disambig}} template from V10, you lose the ablity to use navigation popups to assist with disambiguating that page.
You may be interested in a WP techical issue I encountered. After I fixed all of the V10 links, the ones that referenced V10 engine still showed up, even though you fixed it on 2/18. This was apparently a known bug that has now been fixed. --rogerd 00:32, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

New Sports Wiki/Community

I hadn't noticed but thanks for letting me know. I have never reported another user before and had misgivings about contacting you regarding him. I really prefer to work things out through discussion pages or just agree to disagree, but he won't even respond and it's becoming clear that his only intent is to be malicious. It's a shame. Why did you you edit out my comment about the spelling of his surname? It was simply a helpful response to a question about the written accent (or rather lack of same) and hence legitimate. P.S. It appeared to be vandalism. In your edit, you changed "was named" to "wasnamed" and "his wife" to "jwife". In retrospect, it appears that some of the other changes you made in that edit were not vandalism. I will put them back. Why did you make those changes? --rogerd 17:12, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I had NOTHING to do with any vandalism involving Rodriguez' wife, etc.; all I did was discuss Rodriguez' surname with respect to the rules of stress in Spanish. Some clown's obviously been playing games.Alloco1 21:53, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
