Marvel Masterworks

Great job over at Marvel Masterworks. Two questions:

  1. Ever considered joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics?
  2. Are you the same Rst20xx that's got the lists over at Amazon.co.uk?

Jamdav86 17:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Hey thanks!
  1. Yes! Dunno if I have the time to work on it regularly, but I'd be willing to join nonetheless! I'm not hugely knowledgeable in comics, but what I do know I know reasonably thoroughly - mainly Ultimate Marvel HC stuff atm but I'm expanding. I am fairly new to Wikipedia editting, however, so please tell me what to do etc.
  2. Yes I am! Well noticed :) Although the Masterworks ones are rubbish because Amazon stopped listing Masterworks - shame you can't delete lists :(

The following may help. I got it when I first joined - Jamdav86 18:04, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, Rst20xx, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης)

Great! I always wondered if there was an easier way to add your tag! I'll be sure to join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics soon :) - rst20xx 18:26, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Essential Marvel Comics

Hi, could you help with the info adding/table finishing over at the above page? Thanks in advance, - Jamdav86 19:21, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, sure, when I have the time for it I'll be happy to do what I can :) But probs not til after Christmas now rst20xx 19:59, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Maybe

{{lowercase|title=rst20xx}} is appropriate for your user page :) - Alf melmac 21:22, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

lol thanks for that, added :) rst20xx 21:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Ultimate Iron Man

Hi, I've responded to your comment left at my talk page and would like you to read it, since it clears up some of the issues you have. Thanks! --Jamdav86 19:25, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove other users' comments on Talk pages. I have restored the facetious comment to Talk:Charles Kennedy and used the {{unsigned|Username}} template to tag it with the name of the user who posted it. --Whouk (talk) 12:10, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

But how was that comment helpful in any way whatsoever? If anything I felt it would get my question ignored. rst20xx 12:16, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
I agree that it wasn't useful. However, the nature of talk pages is that it's not for us to decide whether other people's contributions are useful. It's OK to delete obvious vandalism, but not comments that don't appear to be worthwhile. --Whouk (talk) 12:28, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Maxiseries

Good description of the issue at wikiproject comics. Thanks. Dyslexic agnostic 09:01, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

No problem :) rst20xx 13:09, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you so much!

I was startled in the best way possible by your kind and thoughtful encapsulation of "good work, lad!" that you left on my page. THANK YOU! I have felt so beleaguered the past few days, having people bark at me about being a "hall monitor" because I asked for citations, or flame me with language they'd never say to someone's face, simply for streamlining some purple-prose fan-writing. I was just about to walk away from Wiki, thinking, "Fine. I gave Joe Maneely and Jim Mooney and people like that some entries, which they should have. I've done my small bit, I've given my time, and can't take this schoolyard stuff anymore." That token of recognition you gave me, well, it means a lot. It was a generous, community-minded gesture; I really was thinking how so many people on Wikipedia are just horrible human beings. Thank you again. And I hope you've gone to the entries I've written and improved on and expanded them. All the best to you, — Tenebrae 07:38, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Well the Golden Age of comics is something I know little about but would like to learn more. So while I wouldn't know any extra information that can be added to your articles, thanks to you I can get a good knowledge of this classic period from Marvel's side. I was particularly impressed with the length of the Atlas comics article (last time I saw it it was really short!), the fact that you listed all the comics from that period and the fact that you gave your references and had footnotes, all pointing towards a really well written article. Your character and creator pages give the deserved length to those who others may find obscure nowadays, and your List of Pages Created in many ways reads like a who's who of mid-tier Golden Age characters/creators.
If people give you hassle because you are trying to do things by the book, just remember it's you who is right, not them! Something I sometimes find useful when someone disagrees with you is to take it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics. Explain the problem in a level-headed manner and try and show both sides of the story. People there are generally good, reasonable people and they will be more likely to agree with you when you've shown you're reasonable and level-headed too. For example, I recently asked, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics#What constitutes a Maxiseries, and look how long its' talk page has gotten!
But anyways, glad I kept you with Wikipedia :) rst20xx 11:55, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Cartoons Of Mohammed

Showing the figures of Mohammed is disturbing muslims. And it is a insult to Islam. In Islam making and also looking the figures of Mohammed is forbidden. That is raping the holy things of Islam. And it is not about "freedom".PLEASE get back your sıgnature.Thanks.--Erdemsenol 00:58, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry but I disagree. The whole article is about that image, and therefore if it wasn't for the image offending some people I'm sure you agree that the image must be included. However, IMO it offending some people should not be a factor to be considered about its inclusion, as one of the beliefs of Wikipedia is freedom of speech. If this is not the belief of the Muslim world then it is the Muslims who are not following the rules of Wikipedia, not those who want to display the image.
I would not have chosen to have that image printed in that newspaper, because I don't want to offend someone, but I believe that the people who published the images had every right to do so. Furthermore Wikipedia is not here to do what is inoffensive but is here to be informative.
And tbh, did you really think going around putting messages on everyone's talk page would make a difference? rst20xx 16:45, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

X-Men 174 question

Do you have a bigger pic of the cover image that you posted on the X-men entry page (cover to XM #174)? Dstorres 15:34, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

No sorry. I did it by photoshopping the actual cover and the preview cover together and that was the biggest pic I could get :(
If you want a bigger pic I suggest you do the same. rst20xx 16:45, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Patrick Deuel Alleged POV

Hello, I was patrolling the recent changes of the Patrick Deuel article a few minutes ago and came across your labeling of a bit of information I put on the page. At the time, I did not consider it POV, and I did not mean to make it POV. I meant that TLC often airs programs documenting the daily lives of individuals like Mr. Deuel, I did not mean to take any cheap shots at the network, if that is the impression you got. But that was the wrong impression, and perhaps your removing the comment was the best option. Sorry if I caused any disturbances to your time or the article. Эйрон Кинни 04:33, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

It's OK, easy mistake. I'm sure everyone puts their own POV in things without intending to. In fact I forgot I removed that until you said anything! :) rst20xx 11:33, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Make a revert mistake?

Did you make a mistake while reverting July 5. Your 'revert vandlism' edit removed most of the end of the article including interwiki links to other langage wikipedia diff. I reverted you just to be safe. If you intended to revert something specific you should go back and reatttempt to undo the vandalism. Kevin_b_er 08:53, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Actually I may have found it. I removed 1989 - James Norris, Deity inserted in the edit just prior to yours. Kevin_b_er 08:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah that was it. Well I just reverted to Man vyi's version, so as to why it deleted the stuff at the bottom I have no idea, but thanks for cleaning it up. rst20xx 08:57, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Do you have Firefox and Google Toolbar installed upon it? If so, there's a bug with it when you have a large article open and you move between tabs, part of the edit box's text disappears. at some point, or during submission. (I'm unsure, but the error exists) Kevin_b_er 09:05, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
REALLY?!? :S Well yes, I do, but I've never had that happen before and I'm always switching between tabs... but I'll look out for that in the future. rst20xx 09:08, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, check out MediaWiki_talk:Longpagewarning and the associated bug. Kevin_b_er 09:18, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. rst20xx 09:25, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
