Hi Cwmhiraeth,

Thank you for letting me know about the COI. In the future, I will send articles to you for proofreading first.

Is there anything else I need to do in order to have the template removed?

Thanks for your help.

Rte186

If you want a reply specifically from Cwmhiraeth, it would have helped to "ping" them by adding the code {{reply to|Cwmhiraeth}} to your message and signing it with four tildes (~~~~). There's nothing you can do in order to have that specific maintenance template removed - you'll just have to wait until uninvolved editors have edited the article enough to resolve those concerns. You may want to take a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest for more information. The Article Wizard is the tool of choice to create article drafts and submit them for a review by an experienced editor, by the way. Huon (talk) 20:36, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, Rte186, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Ways to improve Julie Ann Sosa[edit]

Hi, I'm Cwmhiraeth. Rte186, thanks for creating Julie Ann Sosa!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I believe the creator of this article has an undisclosed conflict of interest with regard to the article Julie Ann Sosa and the article Allan Kirk, the only other article with which the editor has been involved. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:50, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Ways to improve Allan Kirk[edit]

Hi, I'm Cwmhiraeth. Rte186, thanks for creating Allan Kirk!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I believe this is another conflict of interest nomination. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:01, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replying to your queries[edit]

I was doing what is called New Page Patrolling when I came upon the two articles you had written. Looking at your contributions record I can see that you wrote an article on Allan Kirk on the 18th July and another on Julie Ann Sosa on 17th October, and apart from those, you have not contributed elsewhere to Wikipedia. Looking at these two articles, I see that what they have in common is that they are both about surgeons at the Duke University School of Medicine. It seemed likely therefore that you were an associate or employee and you have stated that you do indeed have a conflict of interest with regard to these articles. This makes it difficult for you to be neutral and objective.

With regard to these two articles, they are not overly promotional but there is excessive detail about the subjects' research interests. In each case, there is a section called "Scientific Contributions" which outlines the main areas they are working on, and the remaining sections are expanding these and in my view these further sections should be removed. As for the "Accolades and awards", I'm not sure whether these are mere memberships of the societies mentioned or if they are honours, specially awarded to a deserving recipient. Each one needs a reference if it is to be included. Let me know when you are done and I will remove the tags I added.

If you plan to write more articles where you have a conflict of interest, it will be best to submit a draft before moving the article into mainspace. If you want to reply to this, you can do so here, because I will add this page to my watchlist. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:54, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Completed Changes[edit]

@Cwmhiraeth:

Hi Cwmhiraeth,

Thank you for your feedback. I removed the detailed research sections and added references to the memberships and awards.

Allan Kirk Julie Ann Sosa

Please let me know if you see any other changes that need to be made.

Thank you, that is much better! I have removed the tags, apart from the orphan one in Julie Ann Sosa which you can remove if you link the article from elsewhere in Wikipedia. For example, both individuals could be added to the "Notable faculty and alumni" section of the Duke University School of Medicine article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:36, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
