Your addition to Mary Fitzgerald (artist) has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. BelovedFreak 23:24, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Mary Fitzgerald (artist). Our verifiability policy requires that all content be cited to a reliable source. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:11, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I'm happy to add sources but am having problems doing so...the artist is listed on numerous sites (Irish Museum of Modern Art, Aosdana etc.) but I'm new to Wikipedia and having a hard time editing and making links etc. Is there someone who can work with me on this?

The artist is a highly acclaimed Irish artist, in international museums and collections etc.

Hello Scmtowers. Have you had a look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners? That might help a little if you haven't already seen it. One of the first things you can do is rather than put your links between square brackets, like [http://www.modernart.ie], put them between <ref> and </ref> tags, like this: <ref>http://www.modernart.ie</ref>
Then, to make the references show up on the page, you can put {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page (but above the categories). That would be a good start, and then you can work on formatting the citations. I won't edit the article myself at the moment, have a go and see if you can make sense of it and let me know if you get stuck. --BelovedFreak 19:55, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK - thanks for your suggestions - I'm a bit of a newbie and I find Wikipedia strangely confounding!! Do you know is it possible to add images also?
Scmtowers (talk) 21:19, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind, I moved your comment down here. It's not really the done thing, as this is your talkpage and you can have it how you like, but it's generally conventional to post messages and replies to the bottom of pages or threads, to keep threads together & easy to read, with more recent things at the bottom.
Wikipedia is definitely a steep learning curve at the beginning, but you'll get used to it! It might help to have a read over some of the links in the welcome message above if you haven't already.
As for adding images - yes that's definitely possible. Do you have some? They would need to be free images, that is, not copyrighted. Sometimes it's possible to use non-free images, "fair use", but not in biographies of living people, where it's technically possible that someone could obtain a free image. Do you have pictures taken by you? If not, it can be a bit of a minefield, but it may be possible. See Wikipedia:Image use policy for starters. If you do have some appropriate images, then have a look at Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Picture tutorial - but I can help you with uploading.--BelovedFreak 21:32, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your help - it's quite a lot of effort! Do you do this for common good?! I did upload an image using creative commons license and I have a picture of the artist in her studio that I can use...but I can't seem to post...can I email you the images? The one I uploaded is called the world turned upside down (white piece of art with tree upside down). Didn't upload image of the artist yet. Thanks for all your help...I am learning! Scmtowers (talk) 23:04, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry just seen this. I see the image you uploaded got deleted. It looks like the problem was with the license you selected. Free images uploaded to Wikipedia must be licensed to use commercially - did you say that it had to be used for non-profit purposes or something? Unfortunately those images do get deleted. If you are prepared for your image to be used commercially, upload it again and make sure you choose a license from the drop-down box. It's hard to talk you through it exactly, as I can't see exactly what you're seeing, but Ithink that's the reason it got deleted last time. Make sure you specify where it came from too. (eg. "self-made") If it is a self-made image, ie. you took the photo, the best way to go is click the "upload file" link to the left, then underneath where it says "What kind of image or multimedia (audio or video) file is it?", click the "entirely my own work" link, or whichever one looks appropriate.
You could email them to me, but I'd rather try this way once more first, as if it is your own work, it's simpler for you to upload it as such, rather than me uploading someone else's work. if that makes sense. So just try that one again, and if it works, you can try the artist image. I'll try & keep an eye out to catch if there are any problems. If there are, and I don't seem to be around, you can always leave me a message at User:Belovedfreak too.
I do this because it's fun! (seriously...) It can be a bit of a nightmare at the beginning, working out all the technical aspects of Wikipedia, let alone all the policies and guidelines. But it's worth it!--BelovedFreak 12:25, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) might be of some use.--BelovedFreak 12:30, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest policy[edit]

Information icon Hello, Scmtowers. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 17:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Coolest Cooler ‎[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Wikipedia. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 15:16, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Have you looked at WP:COI yet? --Ronz (talk) 15:23, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(Keeping the discussion here so others can contribute more easily). You wrote [1]:

I saw your comment about conflict of interest - we were getting a lot of questions about the Coolest cooler so I put up a page on it. Pebble Watch has a page - I looked at it and tried to be neutral in the contribution on the Coolest cooler. If you think there is any bias please advise. I do work for the business but have also contributed to other wikipedia entries over the years and have worked in 3D printing and other areas... Based on the public interest, the questions we get from students and other interested parties, press, product designers, entrepreneurs, businesses, conferences etc. it seemed appropriate for the Coolest to have a page. If you think there's a specific edit that could / should be made, please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scmtowers (talk • contribs) 02:03, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure I'm following. So you are from Fathom? --Ronz (talk) 02:44, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Filson brand logo.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Filson brand logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:27, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lisa Fetterman moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Lisa Fetterman, does not have any sources or citations as written and cannot remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
