Elizabeth of York

May I ask why you reverted the latest edit to the article on E of York, re Stephen vs Matilda? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Elizabeth_of_York&diff=next&oldid=1004749949 As far as I can tell the edit was correct, in that Stephen was not the uncle of Henry II; he was Henry's first cousin once removed (just as it was explained in the Edit Summary). Stephen was grandson of William the Conqueror, and Henry II was the Conqueror's great-grandson.

I do think the passage, though pertinent, is worded awkwardly and probably should be rewritten, but the edit was factually correct and did correct a previous error. History Lunatic (talk) 06:54, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

@History Lunatic: As I understand it, first cousin once removed is the same as uncle? If that is incorrect, feel free to restore the edit, I saw it as possible vandalism, and I may have made a mistake. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 07:25, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Not a problem, glad to clear it up. FYI, a cousin once removed is the child of your cousin, to whatever degree. A 4th cousin once removed is the child of your 4th cousin. Cheers. History Lunatic (talk) 20:13, 5 February 2021 (UTC)History Lunatic

Stop reverting my perfectly fine edits of elements in Norway

I'm trying to update the english wikipedia and you instantly revert them. The removal of category on the tunnels is perfectly fine as they are no longer toll roads/tunnels. This is a perfect example of why I hate doing english wiki edits here as people rush in an undo perfectly fine edits. Guess I'll stay on the Norwegian wiki as people there are not as quick to revert. --Gazer75 (talk) 10:53, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

@Gazer75: Apologies for reverting your edits. The second revert on your revert was a mistake, and should not have happened. As for the first reverts, I saw them as disruptive editing, since you were removing content without explanation. Next time, when you remove content, please be sure to explain why in the edit summary. As for the undo rate of enwiki vs the Norwegian wiki, enwiki gets more vandalous and bad faith edits, which means we have more people constantly monitoring recent changes. Again, I apologize for reverting your edits, and I hope you continue improving the wiki. ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 11:09, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I thought removal of toll tunnel category was fairly self explanatory :) I'm an active contributor to OpenStreetMap in Norway so I tend to keep on top of things ;) Hope you can put my edits back. --Gazer75 (talk) 11:36, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
@Gazer75: They have already been put back, and sorry again for reverting them. Sometimes vandals like to remove random pieces of information for no reason, so next time maybe you could use "no longer a tolled tunnel" as an edit summary ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 11:39, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but you changed a change I made to Edward Abbey's page. His most famous book is missing from his introduction, and the summary I included (its importance) is straight from the book's own wikipedia page. Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
  • A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect.
  • A request for comment asks if sysops may place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions?
  • There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.

Technical news

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
  • There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

5th Early of Rosebery

Hey, you've just removed the edits I made to Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery saying that I had not referenced them properly. I simply restructured the existing copy (under "marriage") and added some information which I have referenced thoroughly. I don't know what you are not happy about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.36.70.96 (talk) 14:15, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Cleaning up Special:WantedTemplates

Hi, due to quirks in the way that Wikipedia parses javascript pages, curly braces are parsed as templates, unless they are inside of <nowiki>...</nowiki>, <pre>...</pre>, <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> ... As a result of this, your script page, User:Sportshead/rw16.js, is generating links in Special:WantedTemplates (in particular links to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:RWTEXT and Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:RWTEXT\). Recently, an interface editor attempted to fix this by adding <nowiki> at the top and </nowiki> at the bottom of your script page. This didn't work because you already have <nowiki>...</nowiki> on that page. It would be great if you could add <syntaxhighlight>...</syntaxhighlight> tags (you don't have these) at the top and bottom of your page like this which will prevent your page from generating links in Special:WantedTemplates. Thanks for your help! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:33, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

@Plastikspork: Sorry about that, I'll get that fixed along with the main RedWarn script soon, as it is a bug with our current build script. Thanks for letting us know! ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 01:43, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I've fixed the issue for my rw16 script, the main script should be updated as soon as Ed wakes up, or you can have Xaosflux copy it from User:Sportshead/rw16.js (as they are essentially the same script). ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 01:53, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.

Technical news

  • When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)
  • Code to support some very old web browsers is being removed. This could cause issues in those browsers. (T277803)

Question re revert on Wikipedia:RedWarn page

Hi. Why did you revert my edit on WP:RW without explanation in the edit summary? It only said that you undid my edit, but you have not provided a reason. The default summary is only for vandalism reverts, so why did you undo my edit? I was adding an explanation that RedWarn is a backronym of "recent edits patrol and warning tool", and it was actually even mentioned in older revisions of the page. So why did you revert that edit? User3749 (talk) 09:52, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

@User3749: Sorry about that, the edit summary evidently bugged out. I undid your edit because it was removed before after an internal discussion regarding the fact that it made the lead messy, and that we have shifted to just calling the tool "RedWarn" without having any meaning behind it. Thanks for helping out with our documentation pages by the way! ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 09:57, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Sportzpikachu thank you for the explanation, but anyway were you trying to provide an edit summary but for whatever reason the summary didn't appear, or did you just forget to do it? User3749 (talk) 10:00, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
@User3749: Yes, the edit summary didn't save for some reason, will make sure to check what happened there ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 10:02, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Other people's user pages

Editing other people's user pages to correct lint errors is encouraged. I have done so 50 times in the past 20 days, without a peep, except from you as a third party, and except for the users who thanked me. If User:Chlod has issues with my edit, that user can engage with me or take other actions. If you detected that I messed up the page in some way, it would be appropriate to say so in the edit summary of your reversion. You didn't mention any actual problem; did you find one? —Anomalocaris (talk) 08:00, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

@Anomalocaris: I notified Sportz off-wiki that the edit was fine, but it seems like they didn't see that message in time. Sorry for the disruption. Chlod (say hi!) 13:23, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
@Anomalocaris: Hello, thank you for your work in fixing lint errors. I reverted your edit as Chlod had previously introduced custom markup to include custom functionality that appeared to have been broken by the lint fix. Apologies for not making it clear that I was attempting to restore the custom functionality, I will make sure to be more specific in the future. Again, thank you for your contributions to the project. ―sportzpikachu my talkcontribs 23:59, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
