Disambiguation link notification for August 24[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gérard de Nerval, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gautier (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Deletion discussion about The Street of the Four Winds[edit]

Hello, Whitespeck,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether The Street of the Four Winds should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Street of the Four Winds .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Op47 (talk) 22:56, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting an article[edit]

if it is your own article then write {{db-author}} somewhere on the page. If not then you will have to ask the community to delete the article like I am asking for the street of 4 winds to be deleted. Op47 (talk) 00:05, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Story summaries in The King in Yellow[edit]

Hey, good job adding story summaries. It's just what I had in mind from the AfD discussion for The Street of the Four Winds. I'm not familiar with the work, so I can't comment on the content, but I did reformat a little to match that in Dubliners. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 21:35, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the improvements, it looks better. Glad to see you mention Dubliners in connection with this book. It's a favourite of mine. Whitespeck (talk) 03:47, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Gertrude E Jennings, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Gertrude Jennings. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:39, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gérard de Nerval page[edit]

Hello Whitespeck! I was sorry to see you so upset about the changes on the Nerval page. I am impressed by your level of dedication to Nerval. I'm sorry we got off to a bad start, but I hope we can work together as a team to make the page better!

I'm new to editing Wikipedia, but I promise you that I did the changes in WP:GOODFAITH. Far from thinking that Nerval is a worthless writer, I believe that his works are far under-appreciated, and I want to change that. For now, I have gone back and reverted the "Selected Works" to your version for now, as a token of my appreciation for the good work you did on the page.

But the reason I removed your section was because I think that the article deserves a longer one that goes into greater depth into his works, potentially with links to separate articles on each piece. Then I got busy and haven't had time to write said section yet. Would you be willing to help me develop such a section? Wikipedians as familiar with Nerval are few and far between, and reading his writing can be difficult work. (I know because I wrote my undergrad thesis on him, which is why I am so passionate about his work). Gerard de Lafayette (talk) 13:19, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gerard

Thanks for reinstating the key works and descriptions. I have worked on this page for about three years and the deletion was a horrific blow I must say. I would be reluctant to do any deletions of other editor's work unless it is necessary.

The criterion I use is that a Wikipedia reader who is interested in Gerard de Nerval would want a quick short informative description of his works with something of the flavour, and I have tried to achieve this in my descriptions. They should have an idea of his distinctive quality. I think personally that a more detailed description of these works in most cases is unwise as we cannot have the talent of the author or convey it, and so this may put the interested reader off.

The art of the author needs to be inherent in the description because that is why he is important. Wikipedia France has done quite a subjective description of some of Robert W Chambers works and I find it fairly useful and interesting for the reader. I don't use sources, I only think of the interested reader, the author and his works.

As for further descriptions, I had intended to do more on the sections in Les Illumines but haven't got round to it yet, while the Lorely page which I think I put up is too short and further detail doesn't appear necessary, so I doubt that the page is either.
