New categories for Sicilian music

After looking at the article Ciaramedda (a Sicilian bagpipe), I realised there were basically no articles for Sicilian music. I created the following categories to fix that, and would appreciate your help filling them out, either with new articles or by translating Sicilian articles:

Hope this gets folks off to a good start; at least we've expanded the category trees with some basic articles. MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Inconsistency

There are inconsistency in the article Montefalcone Appennino : 1th is not the truth. It may be 1st or it may be 4th, 5th ... It is possible that the number is wrong, or the “th” is wrong. I do not know what of that is wrong or true. Please check it. --Diwas (talk) 12:25, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:28, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

FYI - A massive discussion is taking place at a Request for comment (RfC) Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people. About 50k of articles are currently unreferenced and therefore in danger of deletion, some of those are on Italian subjects. I will add the proper template on the main page to have a bot generate the cleanup list after some days (hopefully). The cleanup link in the title above will then point to a list of unreferenced articles with the WikiProject Italy template on its talk page. Please revise articles on the list, when possible,

  1. review them for contentious unsourced information pr WP:BLP concerns
  2. add references (you may e.g. lift references from the Italian page, if that page exists)
  3. remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template from the article.

Thank you. Power.corrupts (talk) 20:37, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:44, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Bilingual toponyms in Italy

Hello! Referring to this correction, please note that almost all the comuni/Gemeinde of the province of Bolzano are written in bold type (e.g. Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone). In this last case (Bressanone) the title of the article is in German, and this in incoherent. I think that wikipedia in English should choose, as all other wikipedias, one version. For example, wikipedia in Dutch has chosen to put the toponyms in German, following the instructions of the Taalunie, and the similarity of German with Dutch. Anyway, seeing things how they are now, there are no reason to delete the bold type for Aosta/Aoste, which has a bilingual status exactly as Bolzano/Bozen. --Simoncik84 (talk) 08:21, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

All the comuni in the Province of Bolzano have been object of a language census, in which they stated which was the ratio between the Italian and the German speaking population. Bolzano for example is mostly Italian speaking. Other towns are mostly German speaking. I think it's possible to follow this method, and when not available use as title the Italian name. Anyways both name Italian and German have to be bolded. But in Aosta valley I suppose there's another parameter. --Theirrulez (talk) 01:05, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello there! I have contributed in the Vlora War, which regards, I believe, both the Albania and Italy's Task Force. As a result, I tagged the article with Italy's Task Force. I would love that some italian contributors participate in the improvement of the article so that it upgrades, but be not POV. Please consider contributing to the article and let me know in my talk page: I speak perfectly Italian btw. Thank you for your attention. --Sulmues talk 15:15, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Disagreement over the Massimo family article

There is currently a disagreement over some of the content in the article on the Italian Massimo family. Two editors have been edit warring over the status of some members of the family while claiming that one another are actually part of the family and attempting to push their views. I've been contacted (as an admin) by one of the editors to intervene in this article, but it appears to be a content dispute to me - particularly as I know nothing of this topic and am in no position to evaluate any of the content or sources which are being disputed. As such, I'd appreciate it if editors and/or admins active in this project could look in on this article. Thanks Nick-D (talk) 12:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

History of Cremona

The first historical news about a free Cremona is from 1093, as it entered into an anti-Empire alliance led by Mathilde of Canossa, together with Lodi, Milan and Piacenza. The conflict ended with the defeat of Henry IV and his famous humiliation of Canossa to Pope Urban II in 1098.

The last sentence should either be completely removed or replaced by something more accurate, like "This was part of the conflicts around the Investitur Controversy".

"Humiliation of Canossa" links to "Walk to Canossa", what happened in 1077, not 1098, when Gregory VII was pope, not Urban II. Neither the Walk to Canossa nor anything happening in the year 1098 settled this Controversy, but the Concordat of Worms in 1122 did. This one was signed by Henry V and Pope Callixtus II.

Italian fake parties on wikipedia

I think that these 2 pages should be deleted: Lega Padana Lombardia and Lombardy Project. As i've written in their "discussion" these parties don't exist actually and never existed in the past. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.33.133.92 (talk) 17:27, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Right. Lombardy Project is completely unsourced. Spurces for Lega Padana Lombardia are either nonexistent or only show that the party did not compete in elections. However, the official page does exist and the party does exist even if did not compete. This page might not be deleted.Mad Toad (talk) 02:56, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons update

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 65 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 18:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Italian election maps

Most of the Italian elections have maps showing which party won which province. However, in many cases, the legends of the maps are misleading or incomplete. I've shown the 1979 map at right to illustrate the problem, since this is one of the worst.

The part that says "Red denotes those with a Communist plurality" is clear.

However, the part that says "White denotes provinces with a Christian Democratic plurality" is just terrible. First of all, the word "White" is shown in yellow, not in white. And second, the Christian Democratic provinces are not colored in white at all, but in light gray.

And the part that says "Gray denotes those with an Autonomist plurality" is no good either. First of all, the shade of gray that the word "Gray" is in is closest to the color of the Christian Democratic provinces. Second, the regional parties are shown on the map in two different shades of gray and one of green. None of the parties listed in the results at Italian general election, 1979 is identified there as "Autonomist". Rather, "SVP" as labeled on the map corresponds to the South Tyrolean People's Party and should be labeled as such; "UV" as labeled on the map corresponds to the Valdotanian Union and should be labeled as such; and I don't even know what "ApT" stands for, although I assume it's something "per Trieste" because Trieste is where the party won.

This map at Italian general election, 1979 has similar problems to maps in other Italian election infoboxes, albeit more of them. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Marco Polo: a cultural robbery

According to an old local legend Marco Polo was born in the Venetian island of Curzola (today Korcula in Croatia). Years after years, Yugoslavia first, independent Croatia later, started to present this legend as something of true, and Marco Polo as Croatian (see here to believe [2]. The final step, starting from 2007, was to advertise Croatia as "Marco Polo's country" (This is just on of the several sample [3]=). Italy articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Italy articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Silvio Michelotto former Italian Ambassador?

The article on former Italian Ambassador to France (1985 -1990) Silvio Michelotto has been tagged as an unreferenced biography of a living person since December 2008, which is the current focus month of the BLP Rescue Project. I have tried, and failed, to find any reliable sources to support this text. I can't find anything for his term as Ambassador (which could be due to the dates but is a bit surprising) or for the company he is supposed to have founded. I'm posting here in the hope that someone might be kind enough to take a look and help. If it stays unreferenced much long, it may be nominated as an AfD.--Plad2 (talk) 06:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
